ROSE'S POV.

"Good morning ma" Alex said nervously.

"Good morning, and you are?" Sister Tayo replied.

"Alex, Alex Alabi; Rose's classmate."

"You may have your seat ma." He added.

"Thanks, could you please give us some privacy." She said to him.

Alex glanced at me and said. "Ok ma." He left.

"Rose! You spent the night here? In this house? With him?" She asked.

"Yes ma. I replied.

"Why? She asked.

"Your husband, threatened me." I managed to say.

"Threatened you? With what, how? Talk to me Rose". She yelled.

"He threatened to kill me, Yvonne; they both threatened to kill me, I had to leave the house and this was the only option I had." I said louder than I expected.

"Can you listen to yourself, why would they want to kill you, what did you do wrong? You're just making this up just to stay out all night." She said.

"I'm not making this up, Mr Kola said he'd pretend I never came home, He said he needs to protect his reputation. He told me he'll kill me if I tell you what I saw." I said.

" you're making flimsy excuses Rose. I should have known choosing that school was a bad idea, see what you've turned into barely a month and you're like this." She said.

"It's not about the school!! I shouted.

"Then what Rose. If you were with your parents would you spend the night out? Were you given such chances? Were you given the chance to spend the night in a boy's house? were you? She said louder."

" If I was with my parents, my father wouldn't try to harass me, he wouldn't want to.." I stopped for a while to catch a breath.
"Wouldn't want to what? Harass you, like sexually?" She asked.

I nodded.
"Speak!" She shouted.

"Yes. " I replied.

"Oh, is that why he threatened you? She asked.

"No" I said.

" Then why?" She asked.

"I caught them together!" I said.

"Caught who?" She asked further.

"Yvonne and Mr Kola." I said and for a moment I was at ease.

"Uhn? With Yvonne? I don't get." She said.

"I saw them in your room together. I think they're having an affair." I said.

"Yvonne? his cousin? Quit the lies Rose." She said and laughed.

"We're going home right now, this instant." She said.

"You don't believe me? You think I'm making this all up?" I asked.

"I I I don't know Rose". She stammered. "I've had dozens of house helps and they all keep leaving, but...." She said.

"But ?
"But one afternoon I caught him in bed with Tawa, my previous house help in my matrimonial bed; but I don't think he can practice that with you, my niece and his cousin. He shouldn't be that bad." She said with a worrisome face.

"Oh... Was he always at home back then? I asked.

"Yeah, he doesn't have a job even till now, he doesn't. Well, he used to have a good paying job, but now; he doesn't." She said.

"He doesn't? So you mean you cater for the family, including his needs?" I asked.

"Yes." She said.

"That's outrageous." I said.

" I want to know the truth." She said.

"What truth, how?"

"I have an idea. She told me.

"Let's go." She said as she stood up.

"Ok. Let me say goodbye to Alex." I told her.

"Be fast about that." She said.

I knocked on his door.
"Come in." He said.

"Hey." I said.

"Did you tell her?" He asked.

"Yeah I did." I said.

" what did she say?" He asked.

"Well she said she caught her maid with him some time ago but she doesn't think he'll practice that with me and his cousin." I explained.
"His cousin? Are you sure of what you saw Rose?" He asked.

"Of course yes."

"Ok then."

"I'll see you tomorrow." I said.

"Yeah, sure." He smiled.

I reached out to him and hugged him.

"Thanks Alex." I said.

"You're welcome. He replied.

I walked back to the living room.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
"Yes. I replied.

We left.

11:20am

I knocked at the door, no one was answering; I knocked harder. I don't know if this is going to work. I said to myself.
The door opened.

"Rose! So you are back home, let me guess, you came to pick some clothes to wear tonight so you can go clubbing like you did yesterday?" Yvonne said.

"Would you at least let me in." I gave her a stern look.

"Sure." She said and walked towards the chair.
"You two threatened to kill me, what was I supposed to do? Sit here and watch you kill me?" I asked.

She laughed and said. "Oh, so you left because of that little threat. You're such a coward."

"Thanks. You told me not to tell anyone about you and Mr Kola, I promise not to tell anyone; if only you guys would stop the threats" I said.

"We both know you can't tell anyone about what you saw, except if you want us to kill you, but about the threats, I'll work on that. She smiled."

"By the way, where's Mr Kola? I asked.

"He went out early this morning. She told me
"Oh."

I sat down and Sister Tayo came in.

"Ha, you've been around?" Yvonne look surprised.

"Get out of my house" Sister Tayo said as she dropped her bags.

"Why? what's wrong?" She asked looking like she doesn't know what she did.

"Why? I thought you two were cousins? Ohh now it makes sense now. The outings and all, that's why he'd always say you're the only relative he has. I should have suspected when he introduced you to me years ago. To even think that I let you be my maid of honour on my wedding day! Yvonne leave." She said.

" I will, but for your information; I knew Kola before you two did that rubbish you call marriage. Your husband planned all this, so don't blame me." Yvonne said spitefully.

"Leave, or I'll do something we'll both regret." Sister Rose yelled.

Yvonne packed her bags and left.

"I'm sorry I didn't believe you." She said.
"It's fine."
Immediately, Sister Rose called her lawyer to file a divorce, I tried stopping her but she didn't listen.

"I've had enough of all this. I pay every fee in this house including the rents. I clothe him, feed him, I I I even bought him a car". She stammered. "I should have known". She said.

"I'm sorry ma. I managed to say.
At last, I went into my room, showered, changed clothes and prepared for school tomorrow. I was at ease and also happy.
I heard Sister Rose crying in her room but I didn't go in.
I ate cereals and watched TV. My day couldn't have been more better.
