I have to act fast, what if they poison me?

I had to lock myself up in my room but, I knew I couldn't stay in the room forever. What do I do?

Oh, I have a phone now. I can make a phone call. I won't call Sister Tayo, if I do she'll find out about them and they might kill me, just like they threatened. I thought.

Three hours later, I was still in my room pondering what to do and how to avoid them from killing me, as they threatened. when I saw the school's prospectus; I was given the prospectus in order to get familiar with the prefects and other students in the school.

Then I saw Class SS2 on the contents of the book, leading to page 6. It was there I saw my classmates and their profile. Then I saw Alex Alabi's profile and his phone number.
I was at ease. I didn't know if I should call him or not, after all that happened.

I really need his help right now, I'm so scared. What do I tell him? How do I put it?
They can't do anything to me, I'll just have to wait till tomorrow. I kept thinking randomly.

It was seven pm and I was famished. So I decided to call Alex.
I dialed his number and it wasn't going through, so I dialed it again and he picked.

"Hello, who is this please? He asked.

Should I hang up and pretend like I don't need his help? I'll just say it and beg him to come over and pretend like he came to give me a note.

"It's me, Rose. Errm ok I really need your help Alex. I'm sorry for what I said the other time, I really need your help". I said trying not to cry.

"Rose? What's wrong Rose. He asked." He must be a very nice guy for him to still be concerned about me.

"Please could you please come over to my place I really need to get out of here," I said.

"Get out of your house? Why? What about your parents. He asked.

"They are not around" I lied. "They travelled and my uncle is acting weird, just get me out of here," I told him.

"Ok should I come with the Police? He asked.

"No no-no. Don't come with the police just pretend like you came to give me a note please" I said trying to prove my fear.

"Ok. I'll be there soon." He said.

Please be... Hello? Are you still there?"
I was out of airtime. Open the door Rose, they can't do anything wrong to you. They are not evil people. I tried to convince my inner self. What if he doesn't show up; I pray he does.

ALEX'S POV

me? Come over to her house this evening? Hell no I can't risk my life for someone who I barely know. What if she planned it all. Coming to school after three weeks of resumption and being my seat partner, she might be a groupsent too.

What if she's seriously in need of my help, I need to help her but this is risky; I can't go alone. I'll have to call Martha she lives around too and David. That's it I'll just go get them from their houses.

I got to Martha's in three minutes.
"Who's there? I heard Martha's voice getting closer.

"It's me, Alex," I said.

"Alex? Oh good evening."

I didn't even know how to put it. Should I tell her the truth or...?

"Errm Rose. you know Rose right?" I asked.

"Yes I do, the new girl." she smiled.

"Yeah. So she said we should come over to her place and show her around the neighbourhood, You know she just moved in." I added.

"Really? sure!. My parents won't be home till nine. Let's go." She was excited.
That was easier than expected.

Now David.
David and Martha are flatmates. I'll just tell him the same thing.
"I'll call David too," I told her

"Oh ok." She said smiling.

We got to David's and I told him the same lie and he bought it. Why do you have to risk your life and that of your friend's for someone you don't really know. My inner self kept on pushing me back but I kept fighting it.
We got to Rose's apartment in four minutes.
I knocked and a female voice answered.
"Who is there?"

"We're Rose's friends. We came for her to explain a topic to us. Martha and David were both surprised; Well, they can't back out now.

"Oh come in. Make yourselves comfortable. I'll go get her for you." A woman said to us.
This place doesn't look like there's someone who needs help in it.

ROSE'S POV

I heard a knock on my door and my heart flipped.
"Rose? Open this door". Yvonne said.

It's Yvonne. I knew Alex won't show up, they can't kill me! even if, I'll joyfully join my parents in heaven.

"Your friends are here to see you." She added.

Ease went through my veins. Friends? I called just Alex or did he call the corps?

I opened the door and I was still afraid until I saw Alex's back view. Thank God he came. With Martha and a boy, I didn't even know. Thanks, Alex.

"I greeted them and immediately Martha gave me a warm cuddle, I haven't had that in weeks. Ever since I lost my parents. She made me remember my mum, but I got over it. I sat beside Alex.

"Why did you call me like that? I was afraid you know. He whispered to me while Martha and the boy watched TV.

"Just get me out of here. I said very quietly.

Yvonne was at the dining table watching us, and that made me more scared.

"We'll be on our way ma". Alex said to Yvonne who was at the dining table.

"I was about making dinner," Yvonne said.

"Thanks," Martha said and I was happy she declined.

"I'd like to see them off ma" I added.

"Sure go ahead, just don't stay long."

Thank God.
We left the house.
"I'm David from SS2 C " the boy introduced himself.

"Hi David" nice to meet you," I said.

Alex tried walking slowly so Martha and David could be ahead of us and thanks to David, he started a chat with her. Now we were divided into pairs.

"I demand an explanation. I was scared that I had to lie to them that you wanted us to show you around." He said.

" why? I called only you to come over not them." I said.

"Really, only me? You called me to tell me that you need my help and I shouldn't call the corps., you need to get out of your house, and you expect me to come alone? Really?" He said almost frustrated.

He's right though. I have to tell him what's wrong. I don't know why but, with the help he offered this evening I think I'm beginning to trust him.

"My parents are dead. Three weeks ago, I got back from school only to find my parents both shot by God knows who. I tried to rescue my mum but I failed. now I live with my aunt and her husband, Mr. Kola. Who tried to harass me; I'm afraid he might rape me. So what else do you want to know?". I asked.

"Wow, that's a big mess you're in Rose. I'm so sorry about your parents. Did he harass you again tonight? He asked.

"Just to be clear Alex we're friends right?" I asked.

"Of course. I wouldn't come over to a stranger's house to help him or her? We're friends, cool friends." He said; assuring me.

"Oh. Ok, so I can see you as my best friend? Someone, I can share everything with?" I asked.

I don't know why but I know I can't fight all this alone, I need someone to talk to.

"Yes, Rose everything. You can share everything with me." He added.

Martha and David were so engrossed in their conversation and I'm grateful to David for bringing it up.

"When I got back from school I saw Mr. Kola and Yvonne on Sister Tayo's bed. They threatened to kill me if I tell Sister Tayo. They even threatened to kill me before she comes, saying, they'll tell her I never came back from school. So I locked myself in my room and called you. I just don't want to end up like my parents." I said and started crying. Martha and David heard and looked back only to see me wiping tears off my face.

"what's wrong Rose? Tell me. I might be of help." Martha said.

"Yes. Let's help you Rose what's wrong? He asked.

"Go ahead tell them, Alex, I know I need help," I said.

Alex told them everything. Only to see Martha crying too.

"I'm sorry Rose. You've been through a lot." Martha said.

Now I was being pitiful.

"I'm sorry Rose. It's quite sad. But did you involve the police? Just to investigate where the killers or the killer emanated from?" David asked.

I never thought of that. Who could have done that? How? What for?

"I don't know about that. I think my uncles consulted a detective then. I don't really know if they continued with it." I said.

"Let's face the present issue right now. Do you want to go back home or where do you intend to spend the night." David asked.

" Hell no! She's not going back to that house." Martha said and I agreed.

"She could spend the night at my place. No one to question me. Except for the maids though and we don't really get along. Sooooo? " Alex offered.

"Great idea. Martha said.

"Thanks, guys," I added.

We got to Martha's. She hugged me and left.
David's house was also close. We exchanged goodbyes and he left, leaving me with Alex. I felt quite comfortable around him. I'm happy I met him.
