Chapter 31 | Ryan
Part 31
Inspired by season 5 episode 10
"Heard from him?" Hailey asked Anna. She shook her head while staring at his empty chair. After Luis' death, neither of the team heard from Jay. Anna lost Jay. At least it felt that way.
She and Hailey had kept eyes on him and Luis, she knew Jay was bonding with Luis. Even though he was supposed to be a job, he was protecting him. Trusting him.
Anna had tried to make Jay see, when he requested Marcus be pulled out, so that Jay could get on the job. But Hank had backed Jay up.
That's how it all went to shit.
Jay had worked Camila and Anna had seen Jay kiss her. She knew he was getting lost.
"Anna, a word" Hank called out. Anna stood up without blinking and went into his office. "We might need a new set of eyes on the team, if Jay doesn't turn up" Hank told her.
"I might know someone" Anna said and nodded her head. "Are you prepared to have a new partner?" Hank asked her.
"No, It was the deal. I have no partner. I have a team" Anna said and stood up and left his office without another word.
-
Anna had let Jay down when they entered that building. Luis was shot and Anna had tried to run to cover Luis, but she got there too late.
Jay ran to Luis and tried to stop the bleeding and in the middle of the chaos, Anna had called out Jay's name. Only for him to aim his gun at her, not realizing who she was.
Realization had hit Jay's face and he had lowered the gun, grieving for Luis and regretting how he crossed the one line he never wanted to. Aiming his gun at Anna's head. His gun.
Anna saw his face, how unclear his eyes were, how panicked he was when aiming at her. She didn't know what to do, she had reached out to Jay afterwards. She had done what she could, but he was gone.
But this time, she told herself she would wait for him. He waited for her, it seemed only fair.
Though Anna had no idea how deep in this Luis and Camila thing Jay was. In fact, how close he was with Camila. She didn't know that in the exact moment she was thinking about him, he was in bed with Camila.
-
Jay was at a party with Camila and her friends, they did coke and other drugs in front of Jay. "I should get going" Jay told Camila.
"Come on, stay" Camila begged him. "It's like 2.30 in the morning. I gotta be up early" Jay said and tried to stand up but Camila blocked him.
"Let me show you something" Camila whispered in his ear, Jay caved and the two went off in a storage room, slamming the door open as they made out. "Is that–wait is that coke?" Jay asked when he tasted something on her lips.
"I'm sorry, it's on my gums" Camila said. "I really gotta go" Jay stammered. "Mmm, fine. It's just, things are always better when you're here, with me" Camila half whispered. Once again Jay caved and kissed her.
He cleared a table and lifted her onto it and got to business.
-
"Jay? Are you in there?" Anna knocked for the fifth time on his door. She tried calling him once again with no answer. The lights were on in his apartment, so she figured that he was home.
"Jay, come on. Open the door" Anna said and banged her fist on his door once again. When she realized he wasn't gonna open, if he even was home, she sighed and shook her head a little.
"Fine. Suit yourself" Anna retorted before leaving his apartment building. She got onto her motorcycle and raced off.
During her driving off, she thought back to Hank's offer.
"Special Victims Unit in New York needs help, Olivia Benson, a friend of mine, asked for you personally. I wouldn't blame you if you took the opportunity to get out of here for a while. Jay is not coming back anytime soon"
Anna promised herself to wait for Jay, to be there for him when he was ready. But it had been weeks now and he wasn't showing any signs of talking to her any time soon.
Maybe she did need time away from Intelligence.
It was early in the morning when Anna got a call from Hank. Saying Jay reached out and needed help with a case he was involved in.
Anna walked up to Jay as soon as she saw him and just as she was about to open her mouth, Hank cut her off. "Hey, what's going on?"
Jay looked back and forth between Hank and Anna, a guilty and sad look in his eyes when he looked at her and just a guilty look when he looked at Hank.
"Female victim. Two GSWs–" Jay began but Hank cut him off. "No, Jay. What's going on, meaning, what the hell are you doing here?" Hank retorted.
"All right, so I was here, working a CI" Jay said and Anna narrowed her eyes, she'd caught the lie a million miles away. "What CI?"
"Camila Vega, from the Veil Club" Jay said. "The girl from the kidnapping case? Luis' sister" Anna retorted, making sure he heard how fucked up it was.
"News to me" Hank backed Anna up. "She on paper?" Hank asked and Anna noticed how uneasy Jay became.
She noticed the difference in his body language and the way his face fell and remained unfazed. He was sleeping with her, possibly in love with her.
"No"
"Was the victim at the party?" Hank asked. Anna was quiet as she fought the hurt she felt by the news. "Yeah, I believe so" Jay said unclearly.
"You believe so. You've been drinking, anything else?" Hank asked. "Just drinking" Jay said. But Anna caught onto that lie as well, he was intoxicated.
"Okay, go back to the office. Don't talk to anyone. Write up your IPR" Hank said and left. Anna shook her head a little and turned on her heel.
"Anna?" Jay called out. "Anna, wait" Jay said and gently pulled her arm back to stop her from turning her back to him.
"What Jay? You gonna lie to me too?" Anna retorted with a sigh. She was so goddamn hurt. "How far are you willing to go for her, Jay? You've fired four lies off in the last three minutes. How far are you willing to go?" Anna asked.
"Far enough," Jay hesitatingly answered in a low voice. "I've tried to be there for you, Jay–""—But you can't, not like she can" Jay interrupted her.
His words stung. She tried to remain unfazed, but it felt like he was trying to hurt her on purpose.
"I'm gonna help you with this case, Jay. Because I care about you, and then you better make a decision. Her or Intelligence, because I see how your pupils are dilated from coke, how you're slurring over your words from the alcohol. I'm disappointed in you, hell I don't even recognize you right now" Anna said somewhat calmly.
Showing just how disappointed yet collected she was.
Jay felt so much shame he felt like throwing up, but he kept his head up. He let her walk away and then he headed back to the office as Hank had ordered him to do.
-
Antonio and Hailey had gone to Maggie's apartment only to find out she was working with the DEA and her name was Ella Porter. What Hank couldn't figure out was why Maggie was out alone that morning.
By the time the team gathered all of the information, Jay's eyes became wider and shocked. "Sarge, I know Alex. I met him through Camila. So, uh, let me work him. Make an undercover buy" Jay spoke up.
Anna looked at him and shook her head a little before looking away. Hank had seen and looked at her, knowing something wasn't right. "Okay, you're taking Lorenzi" Hank said.
"All right" Jay said and looked down at Anna, who looked back at him, with a stern look in her eyes. The two left and Anna remained quiet, she didn't speak at all.
They went to the club and Anna followed Jay, still not saying a word to him. "Yo, Alex. What's up, man?" Jay called out to Alex. "Hey, how's it going?"
"This is my friend Anna" Jay said and nodded at Anna. "Nice to meet you, Anna" He said and smirked as he shook her hand. "You too"
"You only roll with pretty people, huh?" Alex said and smirked at Anna. "Try to anyway" Jay said and chuckled.
"Ask me, it's a solid strategy. You two looking to party? 'Cause I'm feeling some pretty good vibes right now, especially from Anna" Alex said and Jay looked at Anna and then back at Alex, not liking how much attention he was giving her.
"Aw, sorry, Alex. You're not exactly my type" Anna said playing along. "You know what? You're welcome to try a little, but she's gay" Jay said, remembering how Anna acted gay on her usual undercover cases.
"I don't judge, Ryan. Or label. Let's get some drinks, yeah?" Alex said. "Yeah" Both detectives agreed.
"So, where's your girlfriend?" Alex asked and Anna titled her head as she knew she had read him like a book earlier. Jay had lied again.
"Oh, she's working Veil. I might stop by later. Um, yo, I, uh, came by 'cause I wanted to see if you could hook me up" Jay said as the three walked. "What do you mean?" Alex asked.
"I wanna buy some blow" Jay said. "Why are you asking me?"
"Because I know you" Jay stated. "You know Camila better– oh, she didn't tell you?" Alex stuttered. Anna realized what Alex was saying and became even more disappointed with Jay.
"Tell me what?"
"She sells, too. And, I'm just guessing, she'll probably give you a better deal, since you're sleeping together and all" Alex said. Anna clenched her jaw and glared subtly at Jay.
"Look, man, I know what Camila does, but I don't like to mix business with pleasure. I think it makes things messy" Jay said.
"Business? So this is more than just recreational" Alex said. "Yeah, I'm looking to buy some big product. I got a lot of eager customers who want quality stuff" Jay said.
"We have eager customers, actually. We're in this together" Anna finally spoke up. "What kind of weight you thinking?" Alex asked.
"Quarter key"
"I don't have that kind of weight with me. I can get it. Nine grand" Alex said. "Come on, man. Don't do me like that. We both know eight's the right number" Jay bargained.
"Meet me here tomorrow at 1:00" Alex agreed. "All right, this stays between us, right?" Jay said and brohugged Alex.
"Yeah" Alex said and nodded, then the two detectives left. "You didn't know Camila was dealing, did you?" Anna pushed
Jay stayed quiet and Anna chuckled darkly. "Oh we're gonna talk about this, now" Anna retorted. "No, I didn't know, but I'm not surprised. That's why I've been working her" Jay said and Anna burst out laughing with sarcasm dripping from her mouth.
"You're not working her, Jay. You're dating her. And you got her on paper now. You screwing her is a fireable offense. And now she's mixed up in all this? What, are you gonna lie to the Feds next?" Anna hissed at him.
"My relationship with Camila got us here. It got us the boy with Alex, who's gonna lead us to the shooter" Jay snapped. "So, you are sleeping with her?" Anna caught him.
Jay didn't respond and Anna became even more furious and not just hurt. "What are you doing? Are you even thinking?" Anna snapped at him. "I'm fine. I'm fine, all right? And I can figure this out" Jay assured her.
"Give me a few hours, okay?" Jay said. "Do you love her?" Anna asked breathless. Jay looked down at Anna and everything in him screamed to say no, but it would be another lie.
"Yes" Jay muttered. "A few hours is all you get before I'm going to Voight with this"
She's helping him even though he's screwing Camilla. Guys I really hate this case.
