Part 11

A month had passed at Anna's new job in the 21st precinct. She had found herself a house and she loved it. She had stayed with Hank for two weeks, he was great.

Sort of like a father figure, one she never had growing up.

Anna got up from her bed and grabbed a shirt that laid nearby, she knew it wasn't hers, she glanced at the man in her bed and smiled a little.

"I have to go to work, Voight just called" Anna said, Kelley hummed and lifted his head. Anna chuckled a little at his sleepy face and shook her head.

"Lock up when you leave" Anna said and grabbed her belt and gun. "Alright, I'll see you at lunch right?" Kelley called out.

"Maybe" Anna shouted back before getting dressed properly. Kelley and Anna were just sleeping together, they were casual.

They had met at a case Intelligence caught from the 51 firehouse. Shortly after Kelley ended up in her bed.

Anna checked herself over in the mirror and grabbed a cup of coffee before leaving her home. She walked out to her car and got in before racing down the street.

She raced into the precinct and walked in, greeting Trudy as always. "Morning sunshine" Anna called out to the elderly woman. "You're a pain in my ass, Lorenzi" Trudy grumbled and Anna laughed.

The two had a love, hate friendship.

Anne walked up the stairs to the bullpen and met Kim. "Morning" Anna called out with a smile. Anna was thriving, she was healthier than she had been a month ago. Everyone saw it, everyone became affected by her presence in the best way possible.

Anna went into Voight's office and stuck her head in. "Morning Sarge" Anna called out and he shot her a smile and nodded. "Good morning, Anna" Hank said.

Anna smiled and went back to her desk and sat down, turned on her computer and got ready for another case to be brought to them. Anna sipped her coffee and watched as Adam and Kevin walked up the stairs, laughing and chatting.

Both fist bumped Anna and Adam tried to steal her coffee. "Get your own, Adam. It's not that hard" Anna retorted and slapped his fingers away for the fifth time this week.

Kim giggled at the two when Adam ruffled Anna's hair and Anna slapped his hands away. The mood died when a new presence in the bullpen walked up the stairs.

Anna's smile died and she froze, having grabbed onto Adam's fingers while he was ruffling her hair again.

Jay frowned upon seeing them and continued walking to his desk as if nothing had happened, of course his desk was opposite of Anna's and Adam patted Anna's head before retrieving to his own desk.

"You're back already?" Kim asked and smiled, trying to ease the tension. Hailey walked in after and winced a little when she felt the tension.

Hailey nodded her head towards the hall and Anna took the bait immediately. "Thank you, thank you, thank you" Anna whisper shouted when the two disappeared down the hall.

"You two didn't talk yet, did you?" Hailey asked quietly and Anna shook her head no. "Auch, I'll try to talk to him and see where he's at with this" Hailey said and Anna nodded her head.

"Thank you, Hails. Really, I don't know how to deal with this, to be honest. It's a lot" Anna admitted and Hailey nodded understandingly.

"Guys, we caught a case" Kevin shouted and the two shared a look before going back to the bullpen. Anna leaned against Kevin's desk when Voight presented the case shortly.

He sent the team out to the crime scene and Anna and Adam hurried down to their cars. "First one there gets free drinks tomorrow night" Adam called out.

Anna rolled her eyes and Kim laughed at the two. Nevertheless Anna got there first and Anna took notes from the officer who was at the crime scene first. His name was Harry O'Hara.

"Thanks, Intelligence got it from here" Anna said and Hank walked up behind her. "Did you talk to him yet?" Hank asked and Anna nodded her head and looked at her notes.

"He said that the victim was shot three times in the chest and beaten–""--Not the officer" Hank said with a sigh and Anna realized what he meant.

"No, I haven't. I didn't know he was back till he walked in this morning" Anna said and Hank nodded his head. "Figure it out, do it soon. I don't want issues in my team" Hank said and Anna nodded.

He knew this was going to happen the moment he convinced Anna to join the team, he just wanted it to be over with.

His best detectives and officers had to be able to work together. Or else it would be messy.

After investigating, Anna drove to the 51 firehouse and immediately when Anna stepped out of her car, Kelley stood up from his chair in the building and walked out to her, smiling.

"Hi" Kelley said before kissing her. "Hi, I don't have as long as I wished, we just caught another case" Anna said and Kelley nodded, bringing her into the firehouse.

Matt Casey and Gabby greeted her and she chatted with them for a while before she and Kelley walked aside.

"I heard Jay came back" Kelley said and Anna looked at him surprised. "What? How? I literally just found out when he walked into the station" Anna said with a laugh.

"I know things," Kelley said with a wink. "Oh wow, things, huh?" Anna teased.

"How is it going?" Kelley asked, putting all jokes aside. "It's tense, but so far it hasn't interfered in our jobs" Anna said and crossed her arms. Kelley nodded and ran his hands up and down her bare arms."If you need anything let me know, I know Jay well" Kelley said and Anna nodded her head.

"It's okay, Hailey said she'd try and talk to him, to see where he's at" Anna said and Kelley nodded. "Okay, well, you know where I am for the next 24 hours" Kelley joked and Anna laughed.

"Cute, firehouse jokes" Anna commented and Kelley laughed. "Get a room" Herrmann shouted, making the two laugh when they kissed.  "I will try to stop by when we're done for the day" Anna said and Kelley nodded. "Sounds great" Kelley said before pulling her closer.

"Guys, enough of the PDA" Cruz said in a tired tone. Both laughed and pulled away. "Hi Cruz" Anna said and he flashed her a smile and winked.

Anna's phone went off and she groaned. "Lorenzi" Anna said when she answered. "I'll be right there, text me the address" Anna said and hung up.

"I gotta go" Anna said and Kelley nodded and kissed her cheek before she speed walked out of the firehouse. She got in her car and raced off, Hailey had called with an address of a suspect and Anna was to take him in.

"Chicago PD! Open the door" Anna shouted and knocked on the door. Anna heard a familiar click and she ducked at the last second before someone shot at her from the other side of the door.

"Shit" Anna cursed, she wasn't wearing a vest. "Shots fired!" Anna shouted to Hailey through the radio, she was talking to her.

Anna kicked the door in once the shots had stopped, Anna secured every room, she stayed deadly quiet until a siren became loud, the suspect ran out of the back door and Anna sprinted after him.

"Plain clothes officer in pursuit" Anna shouted in the radio and gave her location away. She heard more sirens and Anna barely escaped another bullet, she threw herself down and jumped back up.

"You little shit" Anna shouted and shot back at him when he jumped over a fence. Anna followed, not letting the fence slow her down, she nicked her arm on the metal fence and winced, but continued.

Suddenly the suspect ran out in front of a car and Anna came to a stop when she saw the suspect groaning in pain on the hood of the car.

Both Jay and Voight stepped out of the car and Anna immediately cuffed the suspect. "I didn't do anything!" He shouted.

"Then why did you try to put a bullet in between my eyes?" Anna snapped and pushed the guy against the car. She checked him for more weapons and let Jay take him.

"You okay?" Voight asked and nodded his head at her bleeding arm. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'll run by Med on the way back" Anna said, knowing Voight was gonna make her go anyways.

"Good, we'll see you at the station. Good job" Voight said and nodded her way. Anna nodded back and caught her breath. Jay held her gaze when he got into the passenger seat, staring at her while he did so.

She couldn't figure out if he was angry or sad. Or maybe a third thing? She didn't know, she couldn't figure him out. Hailey honked at her when she walked back to the house, to get her car. Anna nodded her way and smiled, while holding her bleeding arm. "You okay?" Hailey asked.

"Yeah, I'm just gonna make a stop at Med" Anna said and Hailey nodded. "I'll come with you" Hailey said and followed her in her car the whole way to Med. She walked in with her and while Anna was getting stitched up, Hailey updated her on her talk with Jay.

"He's acting differently, I can't get him to talk about you. He shuts down completely, so I can't tell you if he's angry or hurt, I don't know. He's...off" Hailey said with a frown.

"Okay, thank you for trying. I guess I'll just have to wait for the right time to talk to him" Anna said and Hailey nodded her head and watched as Nathalie bandaged her arm.

"Be careful, Anna. I've seen you too many times already" Nathalie said and Anna frowned. "You have?" Anna asked, she seemed familiar but she couldn't remember.

Hailey sent Nathalie a look and the woman became unsure of what to respond to Anna's question. "Well, I uh– I operated on you with Dr. Halstead. I revived your heart when it stopped" Nathalie said.
