The Archer Queen (Hobbit FanFiction)

Hi there wonderful reader/writers of Wattpad! All rights of The Lord Of The Rings/The Hobbit belong to J.R.R. Tolkien (Who is an amazing writer! <3). I invented some of the character's involved in the story, and also some scenes and parts of the plot, but it will be mainly based to what happens in the Hobbit! Warning note: Some spoilers for those who haven't seen or read the Hobbit! Pairings for this story include Kili/OC(Romance) and Thorin/OC(Friendship)! I hope you like it! Please comment, vote and fan/follow! I fan/follow back! :D ;) P.S. The song in this chapter is not my own it is from the book/movie and was written by J.R.R. Tolkien!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm Cassandra Mandaria and I'm sixty years old (but because I have inherited the life span of a dwarf from my father and his father I will live until I'm around 300 years old. I'm actually in my twenties if I was a human so I am actually quite young). I have curly, jet black hair that reaches my shoulder blades and dark blue eyes that looked almost purple. And I'd say that I'm quite small, I am human but some of my ancestors were a mixture of dwarfs and elves, and that's the reason why I'm so short (I'm about two feet taller than an average hobbit so I'm about the size of a tall dwarf). Also due to some of my ancestors being Elves I had inherited their great sense of sight and hearing. I have a twin brother called Caspian who I haven't seen for over a year due to his travels, I don't even know if he is alive any more, I haven't received any letters or messages from him since the day he left for his latest adventure which was supposed to lead him in the direction of Rivendell the city of the Elves. I am a hunter, a traveller and a trained assassin, I wonder around Middle Earth finding adventure, well at least I used to.

I am a close friend of the dwarf Lord Dain who lives among many other dwarfs in the Iron Hills (Dain is the cousin of Thorin Oakenshield just so you know). I have not only been a friend to Dian for the past six years but I have also been his loyal bodyguard and messenger, well I've only been his messenger if the journey was too dangerous for his usual messengers. Those who know me call me 'The Archer Queen' as they say I am the best archer they have ever seen, I am very skilled with my bow and I'm also incredibly skilled with a sword and daggers.

I've been travelling for a few weeks now and having some time away from my duties in the Iron Hills. I had received an urgent letter a few weeks ago from Thorin Oakenshield, King Under the Mountain. I mean can you believe it?! Thorin Oakenshield had sent a letter to me! He said that he and a number of other loyal dwarfs were sharing in an adventure to take back there home Erebor. He said that he had previously written to Lord Dain but due to Dain being preoccupied with his other duties he asked me if I wished to accompany the group in their quest instead. I mean he also said that they would need my fighting abilities and my agility during the quest so I had told Dain about it and he gave me his blessing and allowed me to go to help his cousin. So that was what I was doing now. I was absolutely exhausted! I had to travel all the way from the Iron Hills all the way to the Shire! It took me a hell of a long time, even whilst riding my black stallion Shaidra, but I finally made it!

In the letter Thorin had told me that the group were to meet in the Shire at a Hobbit's home for a meeting to discuss everything and then we would be leaving on the quest the next day. I had no idea which Hobbit Hole I was supposed to be going to but he said that there was going to be a mark on the door to show us which one we had to go to.

I was in the Shire and was heading further in towards Hobbiton. I was riding Shaidra down the small pathways that were leading past a number of Hobbit Holes, all with different coloured doors. The Hobbit Holes all looked so funny. I would love to live here, it's so peaceful and quiet and it just seems like such a friendly place. I involuntarily shivered from the night air even with the numerous layers of clothing I had on.

I was wearing a large black puffy top that went down just below my hips, quite like that of a pirate. On top of my shirt was a black leather corset thing that went from my bust to my waist it also had some silver patterning on it. I was also wearing thick black breeches with leather riding boots that were covered in silver buckles. I wore my black fingerless leather gloves and my midnight blue cloak on top and had my hood up covering my face. I had my sword in its sheath that was attached to my belt, my dagger that was half the size of my sword was also attached to my belt on my other side. I had my bow and my quiver of arrows strapped to my back and I also had numerous daggers concealed in my boots and under my clothes.

I pulled on Shaidra's reins pulling him to a stop outside one of the Hobbit Holes. This one had a bright green circular door but what caught my attention was the funny looking symbol that had been carved into the wood. It must be the mark that Thorin mentioned in his letter. I dismounted Shaidra with ease before tying him to the fence along with a few other ponies that had also been tied up. I gave him a gentle stroke on his nose as a sign of affection before I turned to look towards the Hobbit's door. I removed my bag from the saddle and slung it over my shoulder.

I opened the gate and silently walked up the cobble stoned pathway before coming to a stop in front of the green door. I could hear a large number of muffled voices coming from the other side of the door. I must be later than I had thought, oh well it doesn't matter now. I raised my fist and knocked loudly three times on the green door before I removed my hood. I could hear everything become deadly silent from the other side before I heard shuffling of feet, which sounded like just one person, before the door was swung open revealing a flustered looking Hobbit. He was around two feet shorter than me and had short, curly brown hair and pointed ears and was wearing a patched up bath robe.

"Cassandra Mandaria, at your service." I said bowing to the young Hobbit who was looking at me wide eyed before he began blushing madly.

"Uh...Uh... B-Bilbo Baggins, at yours." He said looking nervous as he gave me a quick, awkward bow as well.

"Am I late?" I asked.

"Um, no everyone else is in the dining room." He said moving aside to let me in.

"You have a lovely home." I said as I walked past him allowing him to close the front door behind me.

"Thank you, Miss. Please come this way." He replied as he shuffled off down the corridor with me following close behind.

He led me to a small room where fourteen people were sitting around a long table. Thirteen of them I recognised immediately as dwarfs whilst the other was a man, he wore a grey cloak and a matching grey, pointed hat that was resting on the table in front of him. All of them looked at me as Bilbo led me in. They all looked quite shocked to say the least, most of them were looking at me with wide eyes whilst others had their mouths open in shock. Wow, anyone would think that they'd never seen a woman before.

The dwarf that was sat at the head of the table turned and looked at me before standing up. I was guessing this dwarf was Thorin.

"Cassandra Mandaria. I was wondering when you were going to arrive." He said as he offered his hand which I shook firmly in greeting.

"Thorin, it's good to see you. Your cousin Dain sends his apologies that he could not come with me, but he sends his luck and his blessing for the quest." I said smiling as I released his hand.

"Well at least you managed to make the journey in one piece." He replied.

"Yes but I did run into a number of orcs whilst travelling here." I said.

"Nothing you can't handle I'm sure." Said the man in the grey robes. "Forgive me for not introducing myself, I am Gandalf the Grey."

"It's nice to meet you." I replied as I shook his offered hand.

"Everyone let me introduce you to the final member of our company, Cassandra Mandaria. Also known as 'The Archer Queen', and my dear cousin Dain's personal bodyguard and assassin." Said Thorin to the other dwarfs. "Cassandra, this is Nori, Dori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bombur, Bofur, Bifur, Dwalin, Balin and my nephews Fili and Kili."

"It's an honour to meet you all." I said bowing to them.

"The pleasure is ours, miss." Said Balin.

"Now that everyone is here we must get on with this meeting." Said Gandalf. Thorin took his seat and I stood with my back leaning against one of the walls as they carried on from where they left off. I silently removed my bag and placed it on the floor next to my feet before removing my cloak and placing on top of my bag.

"Now, if we have read the signs, don't you think others would have read them too? Rumors have begun to spread, the dragon Smaug has not been seen for 60 years. Eyes look east to the Mountain assessing, wondering, weighing the risk. Perhaps the vast wealth of our people now lies unprotected. Do we sit back, while others claim what is rightfully ours? Or do we seize this chance to take back Erebor?!" Thorin's booming voice now filled the room, raising the other dwarfs in exciting yells which caused me to smile at their eagerness.

I thought that I could sense someone staring at me so I turned my head in their direction and for a few brief seconds I locked eyes with one of the dwarfs that I remembered was called Kili. He was incredibly handsome, I mean you couldn't deny that. He had dark wavy hair that reached just above his shoulders and unlike the other dwarfs, who had long beards, Kili just had stubble which I had to admit made him look incredibly sexy. He had hazel eyes that I couldn't help but get lost in and his grin just made me go slightly weak at the knees. When I caught him staring at me our eyes locked for a few brief seconds before he quickly looked away blushing. I grinned before I also turned back to listen to the conversation.

"But you forget that the front gate is sealed, there is no other way into the Mountain." Said Balin.

"That, dear Balin, is not entirely true." Said Gandalf who pulled out an unusual looking key from inside his cloak before handing it to Thorin who took it and began to look at it carefully. "This was given to me by your father, Thrain, for safe keeping. It is time it was returned to you."

"If there's a key, there must be a door." Said Fili.

"These runes speak of a hidden passage to the lower halls." Said Gandalf pointing to the map that was laid out on the table in front of him.

"So there's another way in." Said Kili smiling at his brother Fili.

"It appears so, but dwarf doors are invisible when closed." Said Gandalf. "I think that the answer must be hidden somewhere in this map. Unfortunately I do not have the skill to read it, but there are others in Middle Earth who can. The plan I have in mind requires a great deal of stealth and no small amount of courage. But if we're careful I believe it can be done."

"So that's why we need a burglar." Said Nori.

"Yes a good one, an expert I'd imagine." Said Bilbo who was stood in the doorway.

"And are you?" Asked Balin.

"Am I what?" Asked Bilbo seeming confused.

"Ha! He said he was an expert!" Said Oin.

"What me?! No I'm no burglar! I've never stolen a thing in my life!" Said Bilbo.

"I have to agree with Mr Baggins, he isn't really burglar material." Said Balin.

"Aye! The wild is no place for gentle folk who can neither fight nor fend for themselves." Said Dwalin.

"If I say Bilbo Baggins is a burglar then a burglar he is!" Yelled Gandalf which took me a little bit by surprise making me jump slightly. "Hobbits are remarkably light on there feet and can sneak past anyone without being detected. And with the dragon being accustomed to the smell of dwarfs the scent of a Hobbit will be unknown to him, giving us a distinct advantage. Thorin, you asked me to find the fifteenth member of this company and I believe that Mr Baggins is that last member. He has a lot more to prove than any of you know. You must trust me on this."

"Very well, we'll do it your way." Said Thorin. "Hand him the contract."

"What?" Said Bilbo who had a large piece of parchment thrust into his hand.

"It's just a summary the basics; pocket expenses, your share in the profits, funeral arrangements and so forth." Said Balin.

"Funeral arrangements?!" Said Bilbo before he cautiously began to read the contract. "Lacerations... Incineration?"

"Ah yes! Takes the flesh straight off of the bone in seconds." Said Bofur.

Poor Bilbo looked pale and incredibly scared.

"You alright there laddie?" Asked Balin.

"Uh, yeah I think so." Said Bilbo.

"Think furnace with wings." Said Bofur who wasn't making the situation better.

"I feel a little faint." Mumbled Bilbo.

"A big flash of light, searing pain then POOF! Your nothing more than a pile of ash." Said Bofur who really wasn't doing any help in contributing to this conversation.

The next thing that happened when I looked up was that Bilbo was now looking as though he was having trouble breathing and then suddenly he fainted hitting the floor with a dull thud.

"Well done, Bofur, you helped a lot." Said Gandalf sarcastically.

I quietly walked towards Bilbo and bent down picking him up with ease and carrying him into his living room. I carefully deposited him on one of his armchairs and when I looked up I realised that Gandalf had followed me in.

"Thank you, Cassandra, you can go back to the others now." Said Gandalf who was smiling at me.

"Yeah sure." I said as I smiled back at him before leaving the room to go back to the dining room. Only Bofur, Oin, Kili, Fili and Bombur were still sat at the table whilst the others were either in the hallway or in another room.

"How's Bilbo?" Asked Fili when I walked in.

"I'm sure he'll be fine, Gandalf is in there with him." I said as I sat down at the table next to Bofur and opposite Kili.

"Ah he'll be okay." Said Bombur before taking a large gulp of ale before asking, "Would you like a cup of ale, Missy?"

"No thanks, I don't drink ale." I said smiling at him.

"Well, that's a pity." Said Bombur before he took another gulp from his cup.

"So how long did it take you to get here?" Asked Kili.

"Well, I had to travel all the way from the Iron Hills to the Shire. It took just less than a week." I replied.

"Really I would've thought that it would've taken you a lot longer than that." Said Fili.

"It would've taken me longer but luckily I have a very fast horse. He's called Shaidra, he's a black stallion." I said.

"So your Lord Dain's personal bodyguard and assassin?" Asked Kili.

"Yeah I am." I said smiling.

"That's awesome." Said Fili.

"Not really. I mean on countless occasions I've been stabbed or shot by an arrow just because I was trying to save Dain's life." I said.

"Really? Ouch." Said Bofur.

"Yeah it really does hurt." I said but still smiling.

"If you don't mind me asking, where's your family?" Asked Bofur.

"Well, my brother Caspian is off travelling Middle Earth. And my mother and father died when I was younger during an orc attack." I replied.

"I'm sorry." Said Kili.

"It's okay." I said smiling at him.

"Is it true that you're part dwarf?" Asked Bofur who was smoking his pipe.

"Yeah, my father was a dwarf and so was a large part of his family. I inherited my height and my life span from my father but I inherited everything else from my mothers side of the family who consisted of a mix of humans and Elves." I said.

"Wow, I've never met someone who was part dwarf before." Said Fili.

"Yeah neither have I. Have you inherited anything from the Elf part of your family?" Asked Bombur.

"Yes I have Elf hearing and sight." I said smiling.

"That's really amazing." Said Kili.

"Thanks." I said.

"I'm sorry to bother you lot but I need you to sign the contract." Said Balin who had just walked into the room. He handed me a version of the contract and a quill. I took the quill and signed the contract straight away only taking the time to quickly skim through it.

"There you go." I said to Balin before handing it back to him.

"Thank you, Miss." He said.

"Please call me Cassandra or Cassy for short." I replied.

"Okay Cassandra." He said smiling before folding up the contract and leaving the room.

"Come on lets go into the living room." Said Bofur.

We all stood up and filed out of the room, I quickly picked up my bag and cloak before following the others into the living room. All the other dwarfs were all sat on the sofas and the chairs in the living room, I walked over and sat on the sofa in between Kili and Fili. And then what happened next was something I wasn't expecting; Thorin, who was stood in front of the fireplace, began to sing.

Far over the Misty Mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old

We must away ere break of day,

To seek the pale enchanted gold.

The dwarfs of yore made mighty spells,

While hammers fell like ringing bells

In places deep, where dark things sleep,

In hollow halls beneath the fells.

For ancient king and elvish lord

There many a gleaming golden hoard

They shaped and wrought, and light they caught

To hide in gems on hilt of sword.

On silver necklaces they strung

The flowering stars, on crowns they hung

The dragon-fire, in twisted wire

They meshed the light of moon and sun.

Now all the other dwarfs stood up also and began to sing along with Thorin. Their voices were all deep and the pace of the song was slow.

Far over the Misty Mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old

We must away ere break of day,

To claim our long-forgotten gold.

Goblets they carved there for themselves

And harps of gold; where no man delves

There lay they long, and many a song

Was sung unheard by men or elves.

The pines were roaring on the height,

The winds were moaning in the night.

The fire was red, it flaming spread;

The trees like torches blazed with light.

The bells were ringing in the Dale

And men looked up with faces pale;

Then dragon's ire more fierce than fire

Laid low their towers and houses frail.

The mountains smoked beneath the moon;

The dwarfs, they heard the tramp of doom.

They fled their hall to dying fall

Beneath his feet, beneath the moon.

Far over the Misty Mountains grim

To dungeons deep and caverns dim

We must away ere break of day,

To win our harps and gold from him!

The song came to an end and Thorin announced that we should all be getting some rest. All the dwarfs began to find places on the floor to sleep or on some of the chairs. I removed my sword and my large dagger from my belt and put it on the floor next to the sofa before removing my bow and my quiver and putting it on the floor with my sword. I then laid down on the sofa that I was sitting on, deciding that I might as well just sleep here. I used my bag as a pillow and my cloak as a blanket and within minutes I was asleep.
