Chapter 86. Kicks.

Hey guys! I know it has been such a long time since I updated this story and for that I am so so so sorry for making you wait. I finally managed to get a few hours to myself and I thought why not spend that time writing this chapter!

I'm so excited for the ideas I have coming up (especially the baby!) but for now I want to focus a little on Cassy's growing friendship with Bofur. Also in this chapter I'm going to include the usual dose of Cassili feels and I also cute moments of Cassy's pregnancy!

Anyway, I have loved that despite being unable to write in a long time, I still have beautiful and lovely supporters who continue to read and comment which I am truly grateful for. I am also aware that I have a lot more stories that need updating but I thought that this one was priority number one, which I'm sure you'll all agree with.

I'm sure you've had enough of my rambling now so without further ado, here's Chapter 86.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A bubbly laugh escaped Cassy's throat as she sat in the Council Room listening to Bofur as he told her a quite amusing story from his childhood. The toy-maker had taken it upon himself to entertain Cassy as of late. She had become quite restless in the past months - as her pregnancy had developed, she found she could not do as many of her usual duties as she would have liked due to her growing baby bump.

She understood why she couldn't go hunting or riding or training but it still put a damper on her mood. That was why she was especially grateful for Bofur and his attempts at taking her mind off of it. The others had also tried to make her feel better but the kind toy-maker ended up being the one to succeed.

"- and before I knew it Bifur just fell backwards straight into the muddy swamp," Bofur laughed as he came to the end of his story, "It took four of us to pull him out of there. Poor lad was quite grumpy for the rest of the day."

Cassy smiled widely at Bofur, "You sure got up to a lot of mischief when you were younger, huh?" she smirked making the toy-maker chuckle.

"What's life without a little fun?"

She laughed lightly as she shifted in her seat, her hand coming to rest upon her swollen stomach as she winced at the feeling of her sore muscles.

"You okay, lass?" he asked her, the concerned tone evident in his voice.

She nodded and smiled at his concern for her, "I'm fine, just a bit sore," she chuckled, "No matter how much of a strong fighter you are, it sure doesn't prepare you for the task of carrying a child," she joked making him smile. She was already six months pregnant and it really was beginning to take its toll on her now.

"I couldn't begin to imagine how difficult it is, lass," he smiled fondly, "But just so you know, you're doing very well."

"You think?" she asked, her tone unsure.

"Of course!" he grinned, "And just think in less than three months time, the little one will be here. I can imagine the little one running around the halls, getting up to all kinds of mischief."

"I just wish time would hurry up so I can finally hold him," she sighed.

Bofur looked at her with a curious smile, "Him?" he asked. "How do you know its a boy?"

Cassy merely grinned up at him. "I can't explain it," she said as she glanced down at her belly, "I guess its just mother's intuition," she chuckled. "Kili thinks it'll be a girl, we have a bet going on."

Bofur laughed loudly, setting his mug of ale onto the table, "Of course the two of you would have to bet on it," he said, "Have you and Kili discussed any names yet?" he asked her.

"If its a boy we're thinking Caspian," she said with a small smile as she thought of her twin brother.

Bofur sent her a fond smile as he patted her hand that was resting on the table, "I think its perfect," he grinned at her. "What about if its a girl?"

"We haven't thought of one for a girl yet," she said. "The whole deciding names thing is a lot harder than you'd think."

"Well luckily you have plenty of time to decide," he told her. "No need in rushing."

Cassy nodded gratefully. "Thank you for cheering me up, Bofur," she smiled before she grunted when she suddenly felt the baby move inside her. She let out a small chuckle as she gently rubbed her belly. "Someone's getting restless," she muttered making Bofur laugh as her unborn child moved again making her gasp.

"What is it?" Bofur asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"

She grinned up at him, finally realising what was happening, "The baby is kicking," she laughed making Bofur's face break out into a large grin as he looked at her stomach as the baby kicked again.

"Do you want to feel?" she asked him after a moment.

Bofur met her gaze slowly and smiled shyly, touched by her offer as he slowly nodded. Cassy smiled wider as she gestured for him to give her his hand. He tentatively placed his hand in hers so she could guide his hand to rest on her stomach. They both sat for a moment in silence, waiting for the baby to kick.

A loud, pleased laugh escaped Bofur's mouth when he felt the baby's kick beneath his palm. His gaze shot up to meet Cassy's who was already smiling at his reaction. He slowly pulled his hand back and breathed out loudly, running a hand over his face as he laughed quietly.

"Its such an incredible thing," he said quietly as he looked at Cassy's stomach. "I've always wanted a child," he told her with an air of sadness to his voice.

"Perhaps one day you will, Bofur," she told him making him nod with a small smile of his own.

"I hope you're right, just got to find a woman who will be willing to put up with me," he joked making Cassy laugh loudly.

"Well I'm sure she's out there."

The two of them turned towards the doors of the Council Room when they opened. Cassy's smile widened at the sight of Kili, Fili and Dwalin entering the room.

Kili immediately walked over to Cassy, "Hey you," he smiled as he bent down to place a gentle kiss to her lips, his thumb gently stroking her cheek when his hand cradled her face.

"Hey to you too," she grinned as her own hand rested against his stubbly jaw before she pulled him back down to her level for another quick kiss as Fili, Balin and Dwalin started up a conversation with Bofur.

"If only the four of you had arrived a few moments ago," Bofur told them making them all look at him.

"Why? What happened a few moments ago?" Fili asked him.

"The baby started kicking," Bofur said causing them all to smile.

"She did?" Kili grinned as he crouched down in front of Cassy, his hand automatically coming to rest on her stomach as she rested her own hand on top of his tenderly.

"Yes he did," she told him, purposefully emphasising the "he" which made Bofur laugh.

"What are you lot going on about?" Dwalin grumbled, not understanding the laughter.

"Kili and Cassy have a bet going on about whether the baby is going to be a boy or a girl," Bofur told them.

Fili laughed, "Of course the two of you would be betting on it."

"Well my darling wife seems certain that our baby is a boy but I just have a feeling its a girl," Kili explained as he rubbed soothing circles on her stomach.

"So you decided to bet on it?" Dwalin chuckled as he sat down on the opposite side of the table.

"Why not?" Cassy grinned over at him making the big dwarf smile.

"But I'll love our little one no matter the gender," Kili said as he looked up at Cassy with adoration in his chocolate brown eyes.

"Me too," Cassy smiled.

At that same moment Cassy and Kili both jumped in surprise when they felt their child kick beneath their joined hands.

Kili laughed happily as he rubbed slow circles on her stomach as he looked up at her as she grinned at him.

"At this rate he'll kick his way out of my stomach," Cassy joked causing them all to laugh.

"Can I feel?" Fili asked her as he gestured to her stomach.

She smiled at her brother-in-law and nodded, "Of course you can," she grinned, "Its your nephew after all."

"Or niece," Kili added with a grin making them all smile wider as Fili made his way around the table so he could crouch down on Cassy's other side.

Cassy took Fili's hand and placed it beside Kili's on her stomach and waited until her baby kicked. When it happened Fili's eyes lit up happily as he laughed.

"The little one sure has a powerful kick," he said as he kept his hand on her stomach.

Cassy looked up and met Dwalin's gaze as he watched them from across the table. She sent him a smile, "What about you, Dwalin?" she asked him, making his eyes widen slightly in surprise. "You want to come over and feel him kick?"

"Really?" he asked.

She nodded, "Of course," she smiled, "Get over here."

Dwalin stood up tentatively and made his way over to them. Fili grinned at his brother as he stood up so Dwalin could crouch down where he had been. Cassy wanted to laugh at how unsure Dwalin looked as he knelt beside her. She held her hand out to him and after looking up at her he placed his much larger hand in hers allowing her to guide his hand to place it on her stomach.

She wanted to laugh at how tense the tattooed dwarf was as he knelt there, his gaze avoiding looking at anyone and instead he kept his gaze on his hand that rested on Cassy's swollen stomach. Cassy grunted slightly at the force of the kick before laughing as she saw Dwalin's eyes widen as he too jumped in shock. She watched as the dwarf's face broke out into a smile as the baby kicked again. The tension had left the warrior's shoulders and instead Dwalin seemed to be focused on the baby as it kicked once again making him chuckle lightly.

"Looks like the little one is gonna take after its parents with how strong his kicks are," he laughed as he hesitantly removed his hand. Once he was stood up, Dwalin placed his hand on Cassy's shoulder and smiled down at her, "Can't wait to properly meet the little one."

"Neither can we," Kili told him as he took his wife's hand and pressed a kiss to her knuckles making her grin at him.

"Only three months left to wait," Bofur spoke up causing them all to smile at the thought.
