*Cassy's POV*

My eyes narrowed as I glared challengingly at Dastan and Carter who were standing opposite me. The three of us were outside in the training grounds of Erebor. It was a month after I had visited the chamber tombs and Oin had dubbed me well enough to begin training again so I had been dragged outside by Dastan and Carter to do just that.

I held my dual katana swords in my hands as they readied their weapons.

"You do realize this will end like it always does?" I told them with a sly grin.

"Oh yeah?" Carter challenged.

"You will both be curled up in the dirt crying over your bruises." I retorted with a small laugh.

"We'll see about that." Dastan growled.

I saw a group of people sitting down far away from us in the bleachers that were used to watch the training. I didn't need to look to know that it was the company; Kili, Fili, Dwalin, Balin, Oin, Gloin, Bofur, Bombur, Ori, Dori, Bilbo and Gandalf with Dain and a few others.

Carter used my distraction and lunged for me but I twisted out of the way and clashed my katana blade against his broad sword.

I rammed my knee upwards into his chest, causing a breathless wheeze to erupt from his throat. I watched with a satisfied smile as he stumbled out of the way as Dastan charged forwards.

He swung one of his matching swords at me but I deflected the blow before I ducked his other swing and swung my left katana blade at his legs. Luckily for him he managed to jump, the blade narrowly missing his mid-calf.

Carter joined in the fight again and lunged towards me, I stepped back just in time, managing to avoid his blade as I swung my leg out, knocking him onto his back with a thud before I clashed blades with Dastan.

We continued this fighting for at least another twenty minutes. I could feel the beads of sweat running down my smooth, tanned skin making it glisten in the sunlight. My skin burned and so did my aching muscles. I flipped my hair over my right shoulder, stopping it sticking to my skin.

Moving quickly I smashed my blade against Carter's whilst I simultaneously dogged Dastan's attack. I twisted around them and placed each of my blades against their throats, surprising them.

They chuckled and sighed defeatedly before they dropped their weapons in surrender. I smirked in victory as I lowered my swords.

"Well... that looked tiring."

I looked over to Fili who was watching us with a grin.

"You think?" I gasped as I tried to regain my breathing.

I heard everyone watching us laugh and I rolled my eyes. "You're all idiots." I laughed as I collected my weapons.

"Well normally our fights last a lot longer. We'll have to do archery training tomorrow. Then we can try and beat you again." Carter said.

"You can't be serious?" I laughed. "You think you have a chance of winning an archery competition against the Archer Queen?" I asked with my eyebrows raised.

"Fine. You can help us with our archery." Dastan grinned as he collected his sword.

"That sounds like a plan." I grinned before everyone began leaving the training field.

I smiled when Kili wrapped his arms around me from behind.

"Hey." He whispered in my ear causing my smile to widen.

"Hi."

I turned around in his arms and gently kissed him.

"I haven't seen you all day." He whispered.

"I know. You were in meetings with Dain and Fili. I was trying to sort the guards out and then I had training sessions with the guys... I just wish I got to see more of you today." I replied as he pulled me closer to his firm chest.

"Maybe you can." Kili grinned causing me to look at him with a confused expression.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I have to show you something later so I'll come to your room and pick you up an hour before sunset." He told me.

"Okay. I look forward to it. I should go and get cleaned up and changed." I sighed before he pulled me to him and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.

"I'll see you later then." He told me with a heart-melting smile before he followed Fili and the others.

---------------------------------------------------------

My head shot up upon hearing a loud knock on my bed chamber door.

I had spent the last hour having a bath and getting ready for Kili to come and get me. I was wearing a strapless, cream, corset top that hugged my curves perfectly. I was wearing Thorin's pendant as usual along with Kili's ring on my finger. I was also wearing my black breaches and my knee high boots whilst my hair was left in its natural curls down to my waist.

I jumped to my feet excitedly and opened the door. My excited smile turned to a confused frown upon seeing no one on the other side of the door. My gaze roamed the corridor in search for Kili but I didn't see him anywhere.

Just when I was about to close the door, I caught sight of a white rose laying on the stone floor outside of my room. I bent down and carefully picked it up along with a note.

'Follow the trail of roses and you'll find me ~ Forever yours, Kili x'

I smiled at the note. It was definitely surprised by the thoughtfulness of this but I didn't mind, in fact I found it quite sweet that Kili was being so romantic. I held the rose closer to my chest and silently left my room with a huge smile on my face as I began walking down the deserted corridor looking for the next rose. Within a minute I found another white rose placed carefully in the middle of another corridor.

I couldn't help but grin when I picked up the rose and held it with the other.

I continued my hunt for the roses for another fifteen minutes, I had over twenty roses in my hands and I was now just holding them as a bouqet of white roses. I walked towards the doors that led outside and nodded for the guards to open the doors for me.

I walked down the front steps until I saw a trail of red rose petals which made me laugh as I followed the trail towards a small clearing near the woods.

I couldn't help but gasp in surprise upon seeing the scene in front of me.

There was a blanket laid out on the ground surrounded by dozens of lit candles that casted a claming orange glow across the field as the sun slowly began to set in the horizon. A small basket was placed beside the blanket and I guessed that it contained food or something of that sort.

"Wow." I sighed in awe.

"I could say the same thing about you."

I whipped around to see Kili standing a little distance away from me. He wore a dark tunic and trousers with his boots.

He was watching me with an intense gaze, it was as if he was trying to memorise what I looked like. And it made me smile.

"You look beautiful, Cassy." He smiled as he slowly approached me.

"You did all this for me?" I asked as I gestured widly to the wondrous scene around me.

"I'd do anything for. But yes I did." He chuckled as he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me against his side.

"This is perfect." I mumbled. I could feel my eyes watering as I memorised the extraordinary scene before me. "No one has ever done anything like this for me." I smiled.

"Well I'll plan a lot more romantic meetings in future." He grinned.

"This must have taken you ages." I sighed.

I felt Kili place his finger under my chin and turn my head so that I was looking into his warm hazel eyes. "Your worth the effort." He smiled sincerly as he pulled me flush against him and crushed his warm lips against my soft ones.

I sighed in content against his lips as I held onto the back of his neck as his arms snaked around my waist. I moved closer as he deepened the kiss and after a few moments we pulled away for air.

"Come on." He grinned as he pulled me gently towards the blanket.

"Can I ask you something?" I said as I sat down beside him so that I was leaning against him.

"You can ask me anything." He said with a smile.

"Why white roses?" I asked as I placed the roses on the blanket beside me.

"Good question. When you need to convince that your affections are straight from the heart and are as pure as virgin snow, you present your love with a white rose. But there are more hidden meanings in a white rose than meets the eye. White has ever been a symbol of innocence, of a world unspoiled and untarnished. The meaning of a bunch of white roses is innocence and spiritual love. The white rose glorifies a love that is unaware of the temptations of the flesh and resides only in the soul. As opposed to the red rose that speaks of passionate promises, the meaning of a white rose is in its simplicity and pristine purity. Its sometimes called "the flower of light", one of the meanings of white roses is everlasting love - love stronger than death, an eternal love, undying and all sustaining. White rose speaks of a love that is sustained more by loyalty, reverence and humility than by red-blooded passion. So, in its capacity to worship someone till death, the meaning of a white rose is unchanging loyalty that endures beyond all else. And that is what I know our love is. Eventhough I know it is much more than that." He explained as he gently cupped my face in his rough hands.

"I didn't know that you knew so much about flowers Kili?" I grinned.

"Balin told me. Then I got the idea for this picnic." He said.

"Well I'm touched. Thank you Kili." I gently pecked his lips.

"Anytime, my love." He smiled.

We stayed like that for a long while, watching as the sun set on the horizon. After a while it began getting colder as the day drifted into the early night. The forest around us was shrouded in darkness as the light from the candles slowly began to dim.

"Kili?" I whispered into the darkness as I turned to look at him and forced myself to look away from the forest.

"Yes Cassy?" He asked.

"Do you get the feeling that we're being watched?" I asked.

"Do you want me to check it out?" He asked as he stood up, moving to grab his sword. I mentally cursed that I forgot to bring my weapons with me.

"Let's both go." I told him as I stood up and moved towards the forest with Kili following behind me.

I slowly moved forwards and gazed searchingly into the gaps between the dark trees. I could feel that something was watching me, I just knew it, or at least there was something wrong.

I watched as Kili walked up beside me as we ventured deeper into the forest. Just when we were about to turn around and go back something caught my eye.

It was bright red and after squinting through the darkness I gasped in surprise when I saw what it was.

I immediately sprinted in that direction until I was stood beside it.

It was a girl. She looked fairly young and looked to be part elf, part dwarf. I could see her pointy ears poking out from beneath her tangled red hair as she laid on her front on the forest floor.

"Is she okay?" Kili asked.

I shrugged and knelt beside the girl. She looked to be around my age maybe younger. I carefully rolled her onto her back and saw a gash on her head, the blood was smudged on her pale skin, she had obviously been knocked out.

Only two questions stuck out in my mind: Who was this girl? And more importantly, who did this to her?
