*Kili's POV*

I awoke the next morning to feel a strange weight pressed against my side that was emitting a pleasant warmth and I subconsciously pulled whatever it was closer to me as I slowly opened my eyes. The memories of yesterdays events came flooding back to me and I couldn't stop the small smile that formed on my face when the sleeping figure snuggled closer to me in her sleep. I looked down at Cassy who's head was resting against my chest whilst her hand was gripping my tunic in her sleep. I sighed contentedly as I gently brushed my hand through her raven black hair, my fingers accidentally getting slightly tangled in her soft curls. I could definitely get used to waking up with Cassy in my arms.

I looked in the direction of the window and saw, to my annoyance, the sun beginning to rise. I was worried, there was no words that could describe how scared I was about facing Smaug but I wouldn't let anyone else know that. I glanced back down at Cassy's tranquil face, so peaceful, so serene. My gaze shot towards the door when I heard it open slowly. Caspian crept in and I saw him smile when his gaze landed on Cassy.

"Thorin told me to start waking everyone up." Caspian whispered. "We're leaving in just over an hour. The boat will be waiting for us down by the pier."

"Thanks Caspian." I said as I sent him a small smile.

"I couldn't find Cassy in her room so I guessed she was in here with you and I was right." He said as he winked at me before he quietly left the room.

I pushed myself up in the bed, trying to be careful but the burning feeling in my leg affected me a lot more than I had thought. I couldn't stop the pained groan that slipped from my mouth. I clenched my teeth together and I scrunched my eyes shut for a moment as I tried to breathe through the pain but it was to no avail. Oin had definitely been wrong with saying that I'd be feeling better today. I felt worse, much worse. My whole body was throbbing with pain.

"Kili?" A tired voice murmured next to me. I immediately snapped my eyes open, only to see Cassy staring at me worriedly, a concerned frown forming on her face. "What's wrong?" She asked as she sat up in the bed.

"Nothing. I'm fine." I said as I fought through the pain and smiled at her before I pulled back the covers and struggled to climb out of the bed so my back was turned to the archer so that she couldn't see my wince painfully when I stood up.

I heard the blankets rustle from behind me as Cassy crawled off of the bed and came to stand beside me. "I'm not blind, nor am I stupid. I know that you are in pain. Please don't lie to me." She said as she sent me a stern look.

"It'll pass." I replied knowing very well that she wouldn't believe me. But I couldn't care about my leg now and I definitely didn't want Cassy to worry too much about me.

I looked at Cassy who opened her mouth to argue but before she could I pulled her towards me and sealed her lips with mine. Her protest was muffled by the kiss and after a moment she finally gave in to the kiss with a small sigh, her fingers clutched the fabric of my tunic, and I shortly revelled in the knowledge that I was the only one that got to touch her like this. I hadn't dreamt it; she truly was mine and I couldn't help but smile into the kiss at the thought.

Cassy huffed quietly once I released her and I sent her an amused smile as she cleared her throat. "You can't just kiss me to avoid a topic." She said.

I just smiled innocently in return, carefully tightening my hold on her as I leaned forward and pressed a small kiss on her cheek. "I can try." I replied with a grin when suddenly a loud knock sounded from the door. I didn't even bother moving away from Cassy as Fili stuck his head in. Fili shortly raised his eyebrows questioningly as he noticed Cassy and I's position. My arms were wrapped loosely around Cassy's waist whilst her hands were still gripping the top of my tunic lightly. It didn't take much to guess what he had just interrupted and a cheeky smile tugged on Fili's lips causing me to roll my eyes at him. I shot him a pointed look when his gaze drifted to my injured leg.

"You should get ready. I brought food up for you before Bombur could eat it all." Fili said with a smile as he gestured to the plate that he was carrying that was piled high with food.

"I should get ready. I'll see you both down at the pier." Cassy said before she grabbed the front of my tunic tighter and pulled me in for a quick kiss.

I watched in amusement as Cassy released me and snatched a large piece of bread from Fili's plate before she hurried out of the room and towards her own chamber.

As soon as she was gone Fili turned to me and grinned slyly.

"So..?" He said.

"So what?" I asked innocently as I took the plate of food from him and began eating.

"It's obvious that something has changed between the two of you." He replied.

"Last night she admitted that she was in love with me and I confessed that I was in love with her too and I told her that she is my One." I admitted. I was slightly surprised when Fili pulled me into a brotherly hug.

"I'm happy for you brother." He said when he pulled back and quickly knocked his forehead against mine.

"Thank you, Fee." I said.

"Have you asked to court her yet?" He said with a smile.

"Not yet, but I will." I smiled thinking about putting my courting braid in her hair.

"I did tell you she felt the same way." He said. "Now hurry and eat, we need to get ready."

*Cassy's POV*

I couldn't keep the smile off of my face as I walked out of Kili's room and down the hall towards my own. My thoughts kept wandering back to the events of last night; I still couldn't believe what happened, I'm Kili's One.

I walked into my room and closed the door behind me. I quickly brushed my hair and pulled it into a thick braid down my back before I changed into the clothes that were laid out on the bed. I pulled on the skin tight, black trousers and pulled on my knee high black boots. I threw the chainmail to the side of the room, I've always hated wearing loads of armour. I silently got dressed into a thick navy blue shirt; the body fitting part of the shirt was made up of a black corset that fastened at the front whilst the sleeves were made of a lighter material that hung off of my tanned shoulders, the only thing that was keeping the shirt from falling down was the corset itself. I concealed my daggers under my clothing like I always did whilst I strapped my bow and quiver of arrows on to my back before I fastened my sword and long daggers on to my belt. I'm grabbed the metal wrist guards from the bed and strapped them to my forearms.

Once I was ready I exited the room and headed down to the pier. On my way to meet the others I felt a hand grab my arm and pull me into an alley. I was shocked at first until I saw Bain's face through the dim light.

"Bain? What is it?" I asked wondering why he had dragged me into an alley.

"I wanted to say goodbye. And good luck." He replied before he threw his arms around me in a desperate hug.

"I am coming back you know." I said with a smile as I hugged him back.

"I know but I didn't want you to leave without me wishing you luck." He said.

"Well thank you, Bain, I'm going to need it." I said as I kissed the top of his head. "Take care of your sisters... and your father."

"I will. My father is sorry you know." He said obviously referring to Bard and I's argument.

"I've got to get to the pier, I'll see you soon, Bain." I said ignoring the part about Bard.

"Good luck, Cassy." He said as he hugged me again. I watched him as he turned and ran off with a smile.

I left the alley in the opposite direction and hurried down to the pier where the others were already climbing into the boat. I stopped abruptly at the sight of Kili and Thorin having a heated discussion as Kili was about to climb into the boat.

"Not you." Thorin said to Kili. "We must travel at speed and you will slow us down."

"What are you talking about? I'm coming with you." Kili said, an incredulous smile tugging on his lips that faltered as he watched his uncle shake his head at him.

"No, Kili."

"I'm going to be there when the door is opened." Kili said determinedly, staring sternly at Thorin, obviously trying to make him see how much this meant to him. "When we first look upon the halls of our fathers... Thorin..."

Kili trailed off when his uncle put a heavy hand on his shoulder, looking at him almost softly, though the stern look was still there. "Kili." Thorin muttered. "Stay here. Rest. Join us when you're healed."

If Thorin would not let him come the final bit of the journey, then I would not go with them either. There was no other place for me to be other than by Kili's side and he ought to know that at least since last night. He was much more important to me than a mountain full of gold and there was no way that I would leave without him.

"I'll stay with the lad." Oin rumbled as he scrambled out of the large boat with some difficulty and came to stand beside Kili. "My duty lies with the wounded."

"Uncle!" I suddenly heard Fili call out and I turned to see him looking up at Thorin from where he was already standing in the boat. "We grew up on tales of the mountain. Tales you told us! You cannot take that away from him! I will carry him if I must!" Fili exclaimed.

"One day you will be king and you will understand." Thorin muttered. "I cannot risk the fate of this quest for the sake of one dwarf. Not even my own kin."

I shook my head in disbelief before I suddenly saw Fili climbing out of the boat, a look of angry determination on his face as he stepped past his uncle. Thorin quickly reached out to him, holding his nephew back with a deep frown on his face.

"Fili! Don't be a fool!" Thorin muttered so quietly that I almost couldn't hear him. "You belong with the company."

"I belong with my brother." Fili growled in reply not caring to keep his voice down, quickly shrugging Thorin's hand off before he turned and marched up to Kili and Oin.

Caspian suddenly pulled me to the side and said, "Stay here. Stay with him. I'll go and keep the others safe."

I smiled slightly and hugged him tightly. "Thank you. Be careful!" I said.

"You too." Caspian replied. "I'm happy for the two of you. Take care of him and Fili and Oin." as I nodded before he smiled and walked over to the boat and climbed in.

"Aren't you going?" Asked Fili causing Kili to also look at me, realising that I wasn't in the boat.

"My place is here." I said as I squeezed Kili's shoulder causing him to smile lovingly at me.

We watched the boat float down the river, the companions waving and smiling at the townsfolk as they slowly but steadily left Laketown. I watched Caspian turn in the boat to look back at me, I sent him a slightly worried smile from where I was standing before the boat vanished from my sight.

"Wait! Wait!" I jumped at the sound of the familiar voice as I turned to see Bofur stumbling through the crowd as he shot a desperate look after the already distant boat. He turned in our direction and a relieved smile came to play on his lips. However none of us returned it. "Did you miss the boat as well?" He asked as he walked to stand with us.

I was about to explain everything to Bofur when I suddenly heard Kili grunt in pain beside me, his hand slipping from mine as he fell over. Luckily, Fili caught him in time and pushed him back up. Kili's face was contorted in pain, his breathing shallow as he clenched his jaw together.

"Kili!?" I asked desperately as I held his face in my hands but Kili didn't react, he just continued to groan painfully, his hand gripping Fili's shoulder tightly.

I looked at Kili and a horrible realisation dawned on me. The arrow that had hit Kili was poisoned. "He needs help!" I said urgently as I turned to Oin.

All around us the crowd slowly lessened, none of the people of Laketown paying us any heed.

"I know he does, lass." Oin said sadly. "But I have no supplies, we need to speak to the Master and get Kili help."

I just nodded, my gaze wandered frantically over the streets as I heard Kili's pained grunts behind me. Finally, I saw the Master and his advisor, Alfrid, stepping from the bridge they had been standing on while seeing our company off. Without hesitation, I hurriedly made my way through the few people left, feeling Bofur and Oin following directly behind me whilst Fili helped Kili and followed us at slower pace.

"Wait!" I shouted as I hurried after the retreating backs of the two men. "Wait, please!"

Thankfully, the Master and Alfrid turn around upon my shouts, allowing me and the others to catch up with them.

"Our friend, Kili, is hurt, he's sick. We don't have the supplies to help him. Please." I asked. The Master's gaze shortly flicked to Kili, eyebrows rising slightly before they wandered back to me.

"We are in need of help." Bofur said as he stepped forwards, hiz eyes flicking between the Master and Alfrid. "Surely you have some healing supplies to spare for a sick young lad? It would be of much help if you could send them to the house, maybe with one of your healers so we can take care of our friend?"

"The house?" Alfrid suddenly answered as he shared a look with the Master. "The house is no longer at your disposal, my dear friends, it was only agreed on for the night."

My eyes widened at his words, disbelief mingling with worry and anger. "What do you mean by that?" I asked.

"We had agreed on one night's accommodation, a boat and weapons in return for a part of the fortunes of Erebor. Nothing less and nothing more, my dear. I'm afraid I cannot help you. And besides, your friend doesn't look like he will make it through the night, anyway. No use in wasting precious supplies for him." The Master said.

I growled furiously in reply, raising my right arm to punch the smug smile from his face but Bofur quickly caught it and restrained me. "You cannot be serious!" I yelled loudly as the two men shot us a few last glances before they made to walk away. "You cannot do this!" I screamed.

Alfrid turned and sent me an almost amused smile. "He is the Master of the town, love! He can do anything he wants!"

I felt rage boiling hot in my stomach. Bofur continued to hold me back again when I moved to go after them, I struggled against his hold, my eyes gleaming with fury. How could they do this?!

"Cassy... please..." I spun around to look at Kili who was leaning heavily against his brother and slightly shaking his head at me.

"Kili is right, Cassy." Fili said. "They're not worth it. We will just have to find someone else who will help us."

"But who would go against the Master?" Oin grumbled.

"Then we need to go to someone who isn't afraid to go against the Master's orders." Bofur said and we all nodded in reply.

"Good luck with that, lad." Oin grumbled. "They are all under his orders."

Whilst the others spoke, my gaze settled on Kili, worryingly taking in his pale face and his weak stance. He didn't seem to concentrate on what was being said, his face contorting as he tried to stay upright. And it was when his gaze locked with mine, pain evident in his chocolate brown eyes that I remembered the one person that would disobey the Master... It's just I didn't want to see him at the moment but as my gaze drifted back to Kili I knew that I had no choice.

"Bard." I said suddenly causing the others to look at me questioningly. "Bard will help us."
