The Guardian Angel

Mourning too deep,
Swirling storm around,
Turn into someone,
That will make her proud.

There was nothing stopping Alexander now, he was angry and the world knew it. The bad weather and the tsunami brewing with rise of his anger had everyone worried.

"Make him stop, this is madness." King said tiredly.

It was clear he was in pain after losing his wife, the Queen but he was the King and he did not have time to grieve.

"No one is able to get through to him." Adonael replied curtly.

"Has Alicia tried?" He asked.

"She is still in mourning herself." This time Haylien replied.

"Ask her before her brother destroys the world."

Haylien nodded and bowing lightly he left.

"Queen was the only one that kept a leash on him." Adonael said.

"I am worried Adonael, his behaviour has not always been angelic but what he did with Dethura was intense. Now with his mother gone, he might go rogue." King said sounding worried and sad at same time.

"He is good at heart, slightly mischievous but good nevertheless." Adonael defended Alexander.

"He is too powerful for any of us to handle Adonael." King contradicted.

"I will talk to Alicia , Your Highness." He said and left.

King sighed and allowed a tear to trickle down as he was alone now. He took sharp breath to get rid of heaviness in his heart but he knew too well, nothing will work on his grief. He had just lost his fated one, this scar will never heal.

***

There was a knock on the door and Alexander ignored it as usual. He was not in mood to talk to anyone.

"Brother, you are destroying everything mother died to protect." Alicia said.

Alexander attention immediately shifted to her voice, his sharp senses told him she had been crying, her voice was thick and she was hurt. He got up and tiredly walked towards the door to open it. He knew the only person hurting like him would be his sister.

As he opened the door, he winced on seeing Alicia's condition. She was pale and had no angel glow around her. There were dark circles around her eyes and her eyes were red with all the cry. She smiled weakly at him and he gestured her to enter his room.

"There is a tsunami building due to your bad mood and I had no idea you were this powerful." She said looking at nothing in particular.

"Well now you do. I can't control it and I am too sad to do it." He said flatly and sat next to her.

"Mother mentioned you last before dying." Alicia said after a while of silence.

Alexander choked back cry building in him.

"Was she in too much pain?" He asked quietly too scared to listen the answer.

"Protecting was in her genes, a guardian angel is made to take pain so I guess she might not have been in that much pain." Alicia said in an obvious effort not to hurt Alexander.

"I know you are in pain, trust me I know more than you think and I noticed so is Father. He was crying last night and it has already been two weeks. But just try to think about that smile on her face and do what you think will bring that smile, make her proud of you as she already was." Alicia said gently and seriously so unlike herself.

It made sense but Alexander was too angry to accept that.

"I will think about it." He said in no mood to argue with her.

He did not want to practice anymore or battle with warriors and learn the duties of a King-to-be when he didn't even want the responsibility. Why can't that jerk Haylien do it?

"And lighten up a bit, Xander." She said trying to cheer him up but her voice came out tiredly.

He growled in anger.

"It is Alexander for you Alicia." No one but her mother called him that.

She just chuckled lightly and left knowing well she has just agitated her brother.

Alexander now let out the scream he was holding and his wings spread around him. He had the right to mourn but no he can't even do that in peace. People had expectations from him and he was least bit interested in doing what everyone wanted or expected.

Do what you think will bring that smile... He remembered what made her smile the most.

And he knew what would fulfil this condition, her mother loved being a Guardian more than being a Queen.

"WHAT?" His father bellowed.

Alexander looked at him with a boring expression. A smile on Alicia's face and a proud gleam on Adonael's face solidified his resolve.

"I thought angel's had power of sharp hearing." He said dryly.

"I heard you fine but why would you want to get demoted from an Archangel to guardian angel." King asked angrily.

"Because mother was one." He stated shortly.

King looked at him with surprise and the court silenced down.

He knew he had stated a strong argument and Father can't say anything against it.

"But you are next King to throne." He said almost requesting him.

He smirked to himself.

"Haylien is the elder son and I am not interested." He said and did not look at Haylien to see his reaction.

"But-But..." King faltered and this surprised him.

He had never seen his strong Father falter.

"I am a guardian angel father now lest you want me to do nothing at all, but you should know empty brain is devil's workshop." He said in a challenging tone.

King waited for a while, glared at him, pleaded him with his eyes but when nothing worked he sighed in defeat.

"Adonael, do the necessary ritual and appoint him his human." He instructed tiredness seeping through his voice.

For a moment Alexander felt guilty but then the emotion quickly vanished. He was doing this to honour his mother, no matter how much he detested humans.

***

Alexander was made to burn through holy fire; to make him tolerant to pain he would be taking in place of his human. He was marked with a guardian mark, made close to his heart; a pair of wings with a halo over it. He was given the power to influence human mind if in extreme situation he had to do something to protect the human and he was made to hide his otherwise free and huge wings if he ever wanted to walk among humans in dire need.

Alexander had opted for the job but he was not too excited about it, he thought humans were boring, stupid beings that don't even realise what angels did for them. But thinking about his mother he bared through the dullness.

Done with all the procedures, he was taken to Elites, the angel world government.

He knew what they were whispering; He is too powerful, he is wasting his power as a guardian angel, he is a brat, he has anger issues and ..blah, blah!

He just walked in like he owned the place and smiled his sly smile to let everyone know he didn't give a shit to what they thought.

They seemed wary of him and rightly so.

"We will be appointing you your human to guard Alexander, any preferences?" Lizea, his aunt asked.

"Anyone would be fine." He said dejectedly.

"Male or female?" She asked noting all this down.

"Female will be tiny bit more tolerable."

Everyone around laughed at this, while Adonael shook his head at him.

"I am sorry for your loss Alexander." Lizea said and Alexander nodded in return.

He didn't like her much to accept her condolences.

"You have been appointed a human Alexander." She said after searching for a while.

And in front of him image of a girl popped on a virtual screen. She had a soft looking face, raven black hair and really capturing pair of deep brown eyes.

"Freya Morenson, thirteen years of age, recently lost her father, very religious mother and a sister. She is in pain of losing her father. Your normal teenager. You need to be her guardian and not let her go astray because of all the pain she is going through. We appointed you to her since you will understand her pain and what it could make you do.

Guard her well!" Lizea explained.

Alexander was left a bit unsettled as he scrutinised her face, weird from within , something he can't explain.

"It's the bond." Adonael said as they left the presence of Elites.

"What?"

"The feeling you got when you saw your human. It's the automatic creation between human and their guardian angel. You will have an immediate desire to protect her from danger and she will feel depressed on days you will not be around her." Adonael explained.

The bond sucked, it was affecting him wrong.

"Most days then she will be depressed." He said having no intention of just following or checking up on a boring human.

Adonael gave him a reprimanding look.

"Take your job seriously Alexander, I know you are doing this for Queen. She was the best guardian angel around." He said sternly.

Alexander just shrugged casually and left Adonael agitated.

He had to be on earth now to check up on this Freya Morenson!
