Prologue
P.O.V of Robin
"Motivate this!" I screamed as I went to punch him but he just grabbed my fist and threw me backwards with enough force to launch me across the room.
I flipped back over and landed on my feet, giving him my most threatening stare I could summon.
"Robin," Slade said as he stood from his chair and walked over to me, "That was vicious, dishonourable and ruthless. Excellent work, you're becoming more like me every second."
I took a step back in surprise at that, if he thought I was going to turn into a monster like him, he had another think coming. I was about to retort when he came at me. I quickly dodged but as I went to attack back he grabbed him and lifted me off the floor, holding my chest in such as position my arms were rendered useless, but not my legs. I used all my force to lift them up and over to kick him in the face, satisfied as he let go and stumbled back.
I leapt back over mustering all the anger I had at him and came back down in a manoeuvre that should have knocked him down, instead, he grabbed my legs and swung me under, across the floor and used my momentum to throw me across the warehouse. I grabbed onto one of the gears to slow my fall, pain lancing through my arm but I ignored it, Slade needed to be taught a lesson. As the gears slowed I dropped back down but he had gone. I moved through the warehouse, senses on high alert as I looked for Slade, but he found me.
With a release of smoke, the gears started churning again and Slade came over one of them, "Good Robin," He began to walk towards me and I took a couple of steps back to the levers, "You're doing much better than last time. A few more years of training and you might actually pose a threat."
He knew just what buttons to push, but he was going to come out worse. I grabbed one of the levers and then, with all my might, used my foot to snap it into a makeshift Bo Staff, but he just pulled out his own as another round of smoke released from the gears. I attacked first this time but he blocked with swiftness that should not be possible for a man his size, but I knew never to underestimate him now. He quickly moved out the way of one of my hits and came back with his own knocking me towards a pipe. As he went to jab his staff into me I leapt up and expertly landed on his, hitting into the smoke where I had last seen him, satisfied when I heard it connect with metal and he went stumbling back but then he was lost from my sight. All of a sudden he appeared behind me and I barely managed to leap off the staff in time as he brought his hand down, chopping it clean in two. I landed at the top of the pipe and began to move backwards, watching for him. Between one sweep of machinery and the next he was there and gone again. I tried to suppress my shock but not enough as he came barreling into me from the side, causing me to drop my staff as I was sent flying to land on another gear that wasn't moving. Before I even had time to get back up Slade was leaping over, ready to pound me and I thanked my training as I was able to get up and out the way as his fist connected with the floor, causing a dent that almost scared me. I went at him again, this time with a spinning kick to his face as he nursed his hand and it connected with much more force than I expected, so I went for it again and sent him flying off the platform and back down to where we had started. I leapt down after him.
"You're going to wish you hadn't done that." He said as I noticed I had set a split down his mask.
"I only wish I'd done it sooner." I growled and ripped off his logo from my chest, throwing it at his feet where he crouched on the ground.
This seemed to really anger him and he came at me again with more force as I danced out the way and blocked hits. I went to kick him as I flipped over but he caught my foot and left me in a handstand before throwing me.
"I have much to teach you." He said as I stood back up, "But the first thing you need to learn is gratitude."
I wiped my mouth and looked over to the screen showing my friends and the probes he had inside of them, and something snapped in me once again. I came out him with a punch but he grabbed my hand and threw me to the floor, almost breaking my wrist.
"I made you my apprentice. All of my knowledge, all my power, all for you." I growled as he knelt next to me and grabbed my head, forcing me to look at him, "But the only thing you care about is your worthless, little friends." He rose to a shout as he stood up and walked off, leaving me to try and get up by myself, "If the Titans are so distracting, maybe I should just get rid of them." And he went get out the controller.
Suddenly everything was sapped out of me and I stopped fighting back, "Don't. I'll do whatever you say."
"Good boy." Slade said as if he was talking to a Dog, "And from now on, I'd like you to call me master." I didn't move as he walked past me and back to sit in his chair, "I have another job for you Robin. Rest up; you're going to need your energy."
P.O.V of Raven
"My advanced scanners aren't picking anything up." Cyborg said as the Titans gathered around where Beast Boy was strapped up, "Whatever did that, it was external."
"But there was no one else there." I said, "I would have sensed them."
"Raven, we all have our limits." Cyborg said, "But someone must have been there."
"I bet it was Jinx." Beast Boy growled, "Or Mad Mod."
"That was not the style of Jinx or Mad Mod." Starfire said, "It was Slade, I am certain of it."
"Star," I said, "Slade may be powerful, but he can't do that. Like Robin, he's only human."
"Don't you dare compare him to Robin." Star shouted, "They are nothing alike."
We all stayed quiet at Star's outburst, no matter how wrong it was. When it came to Slade and Robin, I'd never seen two people more similar. And that may be just why they work together now, maybe Robin saw how much like Slade he was and thought he couldn't be saved. Maybe.
"Starfire," Beast Boy said, "Why don't you go and calm down."
"I don't need to calm down!" She yelled, "I need Robin back."
"We're trying Star." Cyborg said, "But I don't think he wants to come back."
"Don't you dare talk about Robin like that!" Now she was glowing as her power began to rise and I prepared myself to contain her, "Robin is a Titan, always has been and always will be. Nothing would ever make him betray us."
"Well, something did Star." Cyborg shouted back, also losing his temper, "There's no point denying it like Raven said earlier, Robin's a criminal and like any other criminal, we have to bring him in."
"Arguing will solve nothing." I chimed in, "What we need to do is heal and continue as we normally would. He'll resurface soon enough and then you can ask him about it, okay?"
Starfire huffed but walked off to her room anyway, leaving me alone with the boys.
"How are you so calm still?" Beast Boy asked, "Our leader has turned to crime, and we know he can take us all down. He's done it multiple times before."
"But not when we were going full-out." I argued.
"Umm, does Red X ring any bells?" Cyborg asked, "None of us held back then and he still had us eating dirt."
I stayed quiet at that, I liked to think that maybe we somehow subconsciously knew it was him and we held back. But we didn't, and he still took us down as if we were an annoying fly on the wall.
"I think he's given up on himself." I explained and they both looked over, surprised, "I think he's seen how similar he and Slade are and thought that he'll turn out like him so he may as well work for him now."
"That makes no sense." BB argued, "He's always so confident in himself. It's not like him to just give up."
"But it does make sense Beast Boy." Cyborg cut in, "At the moment it's the only explanation we've got, and we'll make sure to play it next time we see him." He gave me a pointed look, "If you have any more breakthroughs, you know where to find us." And headed off to his room after locking up.
"You don't really think he's willingly working for Slade, do you?" Beast Boy asked.
"I'm afraid I do." I replied and left him to get out of the wires himself, "I really am afraid."
