Actual Event 4- The Dance
Okay, I give up! This is the THIRD TIME I am typing this! I should type it somewhere else then copy and paste it here, but I'm to lazy to do it. *shrugs* My own fault. *sigh* The dance..... for the third time....
Gracie stared at her reflection in her closet mirror. She bit her lip as she looked herself up and down. She was wearing a soft yellow dress, that wasn't too bright or flashy. It had a little bling to it though. It was long and flowy. It has a few sequins on the top, giving it a little difference. It's sleeves came past her shoulders and it had a small 'V' neck.
Gracie's mom insisted that she do her hair, and with much refusing and giving up, Gracie's mom had put her hair in a sock bun. It wasn't big. It wasn't flashy. It was normal. Exactly what Gracie wanted. In the bun, her mom insisted that she wear it, was a yellow flower. This wasn't big either. It was small, just enough to give it something different than normal.
Gracie took one last look at herself in the mirror then picked up her bag, filled with Chapstick, tissues, a few dollars, and a tube of lip gloss, and headed for the door. She walked downstairs and saw her little brother, Jacob, playing with his Legos. He made spitting sounds as he pretended to fly an airplane through the air. Gracie smirked and heard someone 'aww' at her. She turned her attention to the bottom of the stairs and saw her mother with tears in her eyes.
"Oh Gracie...." She said, wiping tears off of her face. "This will be your first formal dance! You look beautiful..." Gracie smiled. She just hoped it wouldn't be too.... Formal.
Gracie walked toward the front door, feeling like she was the princess. Which, wasn't a good thing. She hopped into the shotgun seat in her moms car, while her mom started up the car.
-------------------------------------
Gracie's knees buckled as her mom pulled up to the school. No one else was in the drop of area, which helped Gracie a lot. Gracie's mom stopped by the curb and turned to Gracie.
"Have fun sweetheart. I will be back to pick you up at 9." Gracie nodded, a fake smile on her face. Gracie unbuckled her seat belt and climbed out of the car, making sure she had her bag. She closed the cars side door and waved to her mom. Her mom returned it with a kiss, than drove off.
Gracie took a deep breath and put on a confident smile. She turned to the front doors and walked inside. At the far end of the long commons area, a bored looking student fiddled with a straw. Grace walked up to him, her shoes making noises against the floor. Then Gracie slowed down and realized the shoe sounds weren't hers. They sounded like high heels, possibly stilettos. Gracie turned and saw a girl marching up to her. The girl had a short, pink dress that fit tightly to her legs, a dazzling set of matching jewelry, and of course, the stiletto high heels. Gracie froze in place.
It was Rachel.
As Rachel got closer, Gracie started to notice more details. Rachel's hair was curled to perfection, as if she had just come from a salon. Which, she probably had. Her makeup was flawless. Her eyeshadow was done to perfection, her lipstick and lipgloss shone on her lips, and her mascara was perfect. Not one thing was imperfect with this girl. Except for her angry expression.
Gracie trembled as Rachel stood in front of her, staring Gracie down.
"Why. Are. You. Here?" She asked in a stern voice. Gracie swallowed and stood up straighter.
"Connor asked me. At least I didn't come here out of jealousy." Rachel narrowed her perfectly make uped eyes.
"For your information," she said firmly, "I have a boyfriend. And he is one of the hottest guys in school." Gracie smirked,
"Is this a bragging contest now? Because if it is, I bet I could beat you anyway." Rachel steppe away from Gracie and studied her perfect nails.
"I haven't seen Connor tonight. Maybe he didn't show up... I bet he didn't want to be seen with a freak like you!" Gracie turned away.
"Your just lying to me...." She said, folding her arms. Rachel shrugged.
"Whatever. Ask the kid at the table. He keeps track if everyone who comes in... And out." Gracie tightened.
"Fine. I will." Gracie walked over to the table, startling the boy who had a book and a stamp in front if him.
"Excuse me," Gracie said, "had Connor Fiddle come yet?" The boy flipped through his book, apparently searching. After a minute or so the boy looked up.
"Yep. He was one of the first. You want in?" Gracie nodded. The boy pulled out a pen from his pocket and asked,
"Name?"
"Gracie Tyler." The boy smiled as he wrote down her name.
"I've heard about you. New girl?" Gracie nodded. The boy finished with the pen and picked up the stamp.
"Hand please." Gracie held out her hand and the boy made a red smiley face mark on her hand.
"Welcome to the first dance of the year Gracie Tyler." Gracie smiled then looked back at Rachel. Her face seemed to be even more red. Gracie walked passed the boy and down the ninth grade hallway.
The walls were decorated with streamers, balloons, posters, and other cheesy decorations. The doors at the far end of the hall, which lead to the gym, were closed. Gracie couldn't see through the black paper that covered the widows, but she heard music and bright colorful lights flashed across the black paper. Gracie grabbed the handle, and pulled the door open. She peeked her head inside and her jaw dropped. Steamers, balloons, lights and music filled her surroundings. People in dresses, nice shirts and ties were dancing all around her. Gracie slipped in and looked around at all of the detail. A DJ was at the far end of the gym, near the changing rooms. Tables were set up near the exit and down one wall. The ones near the wall were stalked with goodies. There was a bowl of chocolate candies, some bowls of ice cream, even a bowl of fruit.
The Best Song Ever by One Direction was blaring through the speakers. Gracie spotted Kelly and Freddy dancing by the far end. She noticed a few of the kids she saw in the hallways dancing, but no Connor. She turned in a complete circle, looking.
Then, she spotted him.
He was leaning against the opposite wall of the goodies by the bleachers. Gracie made her way through the crowd, slipping around people popping moves left and right.
When she finally made it over to where Connor was, she tapped his shoulder. Connor turned and his face broke into a grin.
"Gracie! I was beginning to think you didn't come!" Gracie smiled.
"Why would I leave you hanging out here alone? Come on!" She grabbed his hand, "lets dance!" Connor smiled and they both went out onto the dance floor.
-------------------------------------
Gracie has the time of her life! She and Conner danced, laughed, ate, and pretty much had one of Gracie's best nights. Kelly and Freddy came over to sit with them and they all laughed and talked.
Kelly was wearing a beautiful dress. It was brown, with a few ruffles on the top. Freddy had a blue crisp shirt and a red bow tie. Connor was wearing a white shirt with a green tie on. And Gracie looked just as she saw in the mirror, only, she felt a lot better about herself.
As the dance began to come to a close, people started to trickle out of the gym. Some went in group, some went in pairs. All of them looked like they had had the time of their lives.
Gracie put her last piece of chocolate in her mouth and watched the other people slowly leave. Freddy slipped his hand into Kelly's, making Kelly blush.
"I think we should get going." Freddy said, "my mom is picking Kelly and me up." Gracie and Connor nodded. Kelly and Freddy stood up and left, waving as they walked out the doors.
After their friends had left, Connor slipped his hand into Gracie's.
"I want to show you something." He whispered in Gracie's ear. Gracie looked at him with curiosity.
"What?" She asked. Connor smiled,
"Come and see." This got Gracie's attention. She stood up, hand still intertwined with Connor's and was lead into the hallway. A few people were walking toward the exit, but Connor steered Gracie toward the doors at the end if the hall. The ones that looked locked, but weren't.
Connor eased open the door and ushered Gracie outside. Once they were both out in the night air behind the school, Connor turned to Gracie.
"Gracie, I never really had a good time to talk with you. Face to face." Gracie nodded, and waited for him to go on. Connor sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "The thing is... I've liked you... For a long time now...." Gracie grabbed Connor's hand and smiled bigger.
"I have too." She said. They caught each others stares and they looked into each others eyes.
Then, as if on cue, Connor leaned in. Gracie did as well. Their lips were and inch apart before something splashed all over Gracie! Snapping out of her trance, Gracie stumble away from Connor, overhead from head to toe in green slime. She looked at herself horrified than looked up.
Rachel McGill was standing with a bucket in her hand, smirking. Next to her, two girls laughed, their giggles hurting Gracie's self esteem. It was Tiffany Gelan and Mckenzie Donner. Gracie turned on Connor, who looked just as shocked as she was.
"Y-y-you planned this?!" Gracie stuttered, on the verge of tears. Connor's eyes got wide.
"No! I had no id-" Connor was cut off by Tiffany calling,
"Smile Grossy!" Gracie looked up and she saw all three girls with their phones out. Gracie heard a 'snap' and she knew immediately that she would be all over Facebook, twitter, the school website... Everywhere.
Gracie turned to Connor once more, tears now flowing down her cheeks.
"How could you?!" She screamed at him. Connor tried to grab Gracie, but she pulled away, running from the laughing girls and heartbreaker of a friend.
Aww.... I know... Sad but it was what needed to be done. Happy Update! :D
