↬One: Something's Up

It was a few days after Virgil's first night and the light sides were relaxing after another long day of helping Thomas out. They all sat in the living room as Virgil had a rough night dealing with the curse. Of course, the other sides were not going to know this so he just said he felt a bit unwell and they decided to just take a day off.

Logan had a leg crossed over the other as he sat on the other side of the couch, sipping from his iced black coffee while Patton was sat on the floor with Roman sitting on the couch beside him. The small anxious side was curled up in the corner of the couch as he silently watched the movie he picked out for the four of them to watch, Corpse Bride.

Virgil was finally feeling relaxed. He was only feeling a bit warm and just a small achy pain that could be described as growing pains, so he simply dealt with it. It was all fine and dandy until he started feeling that sensation again but he just shook it off so he could continue hanging out with the other light sides.

But eventually, the inevitable happened. Virgil couldn't take the building intense pain and burning as it kept getting worse and worse every night. He thought it was just part of the stupid curse Remus had put on him just to try to get under his skin and annoy him, so as he sat there it had, again, grown into a shooting and agonizing pain. Virgil had to quickly excuse himself from the others once again.

"Not again" the anxious side thought to himself, gripping his hoodie. He needed to make up an excuse and fast. He hurriedly faked a yawn and he stretched. "G-Guys I might just head to my room... it's late." he mumbled but then looked at the logical side when he spoke up.

"But Virgil it is only five in the afternoon, it is not considered late," Logan pointed out as he looked up from his wristwatch.
Virgil grew more nervous, causing a sharp shooting pain to attack his back.

"I uh... didn't go to bed till like two in the morning, so I'm ya' know, tired," he said, brushing off the logical side off with a shrug as he stood up from the couch. He then heard a huff from Roman.

"Really? Again Hot Topic? Ta ta then, I guess," he sighed. Virgil nodded and frowned a bit but knew he couldn't stay or he could risk hurting the others. He would never be able to forgive himself if he did because, truth be told, they were all he had left since Remus and Deceit had hurt him. The thoughts and worries plaguing his mind only made the pain worse as he felt Patton place a gentle hand on his shoulder.

"Awe... Okay, kiddo. See you at breakfast tomorrow?" he asked. Patton had pouted when Virgil said he was leaving but lightened up when he got a thumbs up from the anxious side, who tried to quickly but calmly walk to his dark bedroom.

Once in his room, he pulled off his hoodie quickly and threw it on his bed as he pulled up his sleeves rubbing at his arm in an attempt to stop the pain. "Sh-Shit... please stop, it hurts," he whimpered softly to himself. He knew telling it to stop wouldn't do anything though.

Virgil rubbed at his arm but it resulted in nothing so he started scratching, not even noticing the claws that had started forming from his fingertips. While he continued scratching, the legs and sharp claws started to dig into his skin.

"W-Wait no!" he cried as he pulled his hand away and tried to calm himself, feeling a tightening feeling forming in his back. When it all finally stopped Virgil just laid on his bed and curled up into a tight ball. He tried to desperately fall asleep and forget about everything that just happened. Unfortunately for him, hours passed and to no avail. It had hit around two in the morning and Virgil just couldn't sleep in fear of having it happen again so he decided to relax in the living room until he fell asleep.

When the others awoke the next morning the living room was, needless to say, destroyed. The floor was all scratched up, most of the pictures that had been on the walls were now knocked down, and the furniture was ripped up and turned over. Patton was one of the first sides up and walked out of his room about the same time as Logan.

"Holy moly, what happened here?!" the moral side exclaimed. He sped over and picked up some of their more valuable items, dusting them off lovingly with his hand.

"I am not real sure Patton," Logan grumbled in annoyance at the state of the living room.

Patton started picking some of the stuff up and putting back their valuables before he heard Roman walk out of his room with a yawn.

"Jiminy Cricket!" he exclaimed as he walked farther into the room. He then let out a small groan and ran a hand through his hair. "Most likely that grimy garbage rat and lying snake's fault," he huffed. Roman glanced around and snapped his fingers cleaning up any couch stuffing and fixed any damaged furniture.

Logan adjusted his glasses as he nodded, looking around. "Yes I would assume it is safe to say it was the hands of your brother and Deceit," he said. The logical side noticed the face of disgust Roman gave in response.

"Ugh...don't call that thing my brother," Roman groaned. Logan raised an eyebrow at Roman with curiosity.

"You stated yourself that he was your brother, yes?"

"Yes, yes I did...and I regret it. Just look at him then look at me," he declared. The princely side gestured dramatically which Logan rolled his eyes.

"Whatever, Roman," he scoffed softly.

The light sides eventually cleaned up the living room and Patton went to work on breakfast. When they were joined by Virgil, he looked completely exhausted.

"Looks like sleeping beauty woke up on the wrong side of the bed," Roman teased. His playful expression quickly dropped as he saw Virgil gave him a gentle warning glare.

"I'm not in the mood for it today, princey..." he mumbled. He then saw the others finish picking up the living room and felt anxious about what had happened the night before. Virgil slowly shook it off and tried to relax as he rubbed his face tiredly.

"Rough night? Maybe you just need some coffee for a wake-up," Patton suggested gently but it was declined as Virgil shook his head and sighed.

"Can't. I get too jittery and shaky when I drink coffee," he mumbled and sat down at the dining table. Patton let out a quiet hum before he nodded.

"Okay then...I can make you some tea once I finish making breakfast. It's pancakes and bacon today," he said. He smiled as he flipped a pancake carefully. The sweet scent of the cooking breakfast filled the anxious side's senses, calming him a bit which made the burning and aching die down slightly. Patton started boiling water for the tea.

"Hey Logan, what tea did you mention would help give Virgil a boost?" the fatherly side asked and Logan looked up from his book at Patton.

"Yerba mate, it is the national beverage in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay," he answered.

Patton hummed with a confused face, before giggling quietly. "Yerba, that's a funny word," Morality said before he snapped his fingers, making a teabag appear in his hand. He quickly plated the food and each side took one before they sat down. Soon, Patton returned and placed a small mug in front of Virgil with the teabag hanging off the cup.

Shortly after their breakfast, it was recording time with Thomas. For once, things actually went pretty smoothly. The lingering aching pain never went away for Virgil but it was manageable. Well, that was until he felt the sudden shooting pain in his spine again.

"I can't do this now not in front of them," he thought to himself. He hurriedly thought up a plan to speed up the recording process or at least give him time to calm down. Virgil gently cleared his throat while his anxiety noticeably spiked up as Thomas became suddenly anxious as well.

"H-Hey can we-" he started to say but suddenly cut himself off by covering his mouth. His voice had become deep and echoed and it seemed to scare the young side, causing the pain to slowly become so intense he just teleported to his room to escape. The others were left confused. However, one side was not. Logan had been watching the anxious side closely just before he left.

"There is something definitely up with Virgil...He keeps leaving so suddenly and you heard what his voice sounded like when he left," he said with suspicion lacing his voice. He looked at the others watching as Patton rubbed his arm nervously.

"Maybe he's still adjusting Lo," he suggested, trying to back up Virgil. In response, he only heard the logical side scoff.

"Why does this happen when doing seemingly mundane tasks?" he questioned. He then looked at Roman who gasped in overdramatic shock.

"Watching Mulan and Corpse bride is not mundane at all!" he exclaimed.

Logan groaned, "That is not my point, Roman." He pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance. The logical side looked back at Roman then at Patton.

"What I mean is, what if Virgil is hiding something from us?" he asked. Logan knew something was up since it all seemed strange to him. Although, Patton just seemed to frown sympathetically for the edgy side.

"What if he's just nervous? We should give him time to settle in Lo," the moral side said.

"Fine. If that is what you wish then I will just give him time," Logan groaned again as he adjusted his tie. The logical side was getting irritated with this. They weren't listening to him when there was obviously something wrong with Virgil. "I am supposing if I try to check on him you will both stop me anyway?" he asked in a matter-of-fact way. Roman rubbed his hands together before he let out a sigh and nodded.

"Look, I'm not saying I haven't noticed something's up with Hot Topic, but I think we should just leave him be about whatever it is till he comes to us," he shrugged. "If we force it out of him it may scare him off." He looked over at Patton who nodded quickly in agreement.

The moral side spoke up, "Yeah Logan, he's already kinda iffy about sharing his past. This may be the same situation." He smiled, hopeful of the anxious side. "I'm sure if we just give him space he'll finally break open and spill any answers to our questions," he said. This made Roman very confused, his brows furrowing as he looked at the fatherly side.

"Uh... Pat, I'm pretty sure-" he started but was cut but a quick 'shush' by Patton.

"I know, I know... It won't be that easy but let me dream Roman," Patton continued. He then looked at Logan who grunted in frustration.

"So we are just going to let him run off? His voice does whatever you call that and you let him go? Maybe he's hurting and is in need of your support Patton!" he exclaimed. He noticed how Patton shifted on the balls of his feet.

"He'll come to me if he needs me," he responded.

Logan's eyes widened at the comment but kept his composure. But, his patience was really running thin.

"He has known you for four days, Patton, he will not come to you. No matter how hopeful you are," he unintentionally snapped. As soon as he did it, he regretted it. He noticed how Patton seemed hurt by his comment.

"I know, Lo, but I have hope he knows he can come to me when he needs me," he said before he stormed off. This left Roman and Logan alone in the living room.

"You really screwed up, calculator watch," Roman scolded. Logan shot a glare at the creative side who had a half-smug, half-annoyed look as he continued. "I get that you're irritated that Patton and I are somewhat turning a blind eye to Virgil's odd behavior-"

"That puts it lightly," the logical side shot back as he adjusted his glasses. It was Roman's turn to shoot a glare.

"But as you said we've only known him for only four days, maybe this is all normal behavior for him. We're not sure, but scaring him off certainly does not help us or gets him to open up," he said. Roman ran a hand through his hair before he continued speaking. "So for his sake just take a chill-pill and a deep breath and I'm pretty sure you'll get a whole bunch of answers to your questions, Nerdy Wolverine." He made a few hand motions to push his point while he admonished the teacher. Logan seemed unsure but took in a deep breath before he let it out in a sigh. He then felt a gentle pat to his shoulder.

"Alright, now you go apologize to Patton. He seemed upset because of you," he instructed. He pointed a blaming finger at Logan but had a reassuring smile on his face, obviously messing with him. Logan gave a faint smile in return.

"Alright, I suppose that is fair," he relented. The logical side then headed to Patton's room to apologize for his actions. Meanwhile Roman decided to head over to Virgil's just to check in on him.
