When did you first start writing? What's the story behind it?
I started writing back in 2015 when I was about 13 years old, and my first book was a really cringey Black Butler OC fic. I don't really know what caused me to start. My brain just started crafting OCs and I wanted to give them their own story.
As they say, your first book is always going to be terrible no matter the circumstance, to you or to readers. You improve with time, so instead of worrying, just write.
What do you mainly focus on when writing a fanfiction?
I mainly focus on developing my character and making them into their own person. One of my biggest pet peeves when reading fanfiction is finding a really boring OC who doesn't have a personality outside of being a love interest. So I try really hard to make my characters likeable before introducing any romance elements.
And it seems to be working. Your readers absolutely love your character, Agent.
How much books have you written and, if you could choose, which one is your favourite?
I've published 8 (I think) stories on WattPad since 2015, though I have a few more unpublished ones in the works. My favourite is definitely "The Girl With No Name" which is the reason I entered into the awards.
What are the most difficult scenes for you to write in your books and why?
I mainly struggle with fluff content. It's hard to find a balance between cute and cringey. I usually end up doing multiple rewrites of those kind of scenes.
Did you ever model a character after real life people you know and does it benefit your writing process?
I've never intentionally based a character off of someone I know, but I've taken elements of their personalities and used it as inspiration for my characters. I think it benefits my writing because it makes my OCs feel real and relatable.
If you could meet one of your characters, who would it be and what would you say to them?
100% I would choose to meet Agent. She's my favourite OC and I really love her. If she was real, I'd probably give her a massive hug and tell her it's okay to NOT be okay. And then I'd get her a therapist.
Was there any books that caught your eye in the awards and why?
I read through a few of the entries and, though I thought all of them were amazing, I really liked "Too Scared To Love You" by EllaOraios. Sanemi doesn't get enough love in the Demon Slayer fandom, plus the writing was awesome!
Lastly, is there any advice you can give new writers?
My advice is don't take yourself too seriously! Writing is a process and it's entirely unique for every writer.
Also, something I find really useful is: don't pressure yourself to write chronologically. Jot ideas down as and when they come to you - random lines of dialogue, new plot points. Sometimes I'll write a book's middle or ending before I write the beginning. Trying to write something chapter for chapter works for some, but not everyone - and it can lead to writer's block.
Thank you for your advice and time. Congratulations, again, on winning the awards and happy writing!
