Chapter 2

I slowly opened my eyes, a bright white light shining all around me.

   "Where am I..?" I asked.

"Good question." I heard from behind me, startling me to my feet.

"Who said that?" I asked, quickly spinning around, looking in every direction.

But, there was nothing, just white.

Then, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I quickly spun around, coming face to face with a beautiful, middle-aged woman.

"Jesus, who're you?" I asked, taking a step back.

   She smiled.

"My name's Aileen and I guess you could call me your guardian angel... or anger angel for that matter." She let out a quick laugh.

"Listen, Aileen, I don't know what kinda stupid joke this is, but it's not funny and I wanna go home."

She nodded before starting to pace in circles around me.

"You're right, it's not funny. But, the whole reason you're here is entirely your fault." She said.

I spun around, attempting to follow her eyes.

"What do you mean? Where am I?" I asked, fear and confusion starting to settle in.

She stopped pacing and eyed me. "You really don't know?"

   I shook my head.

She nodded slowly. "Well, sorry to drop this on you, kid, but you're deader than a toad with a brick up its ass."

"I-I'm d-dead?" I asked, slowly backing away from Aileen.

   "I'm afraid so." She replied.

   "W-wh-why?"

"Your anger. It's been bubbling for thirty-two years and it finally boiled over, causing a good old fashioned cardiac arrest."

I fell to my knees, hand clutching my heart. "But, there's nothing wrong with my heart. I eat right, I go to the gym, I get regular check ups."

Aileen knelt down next to me as tears started leaking from my eyes.

She rested a hand on my shoulder. "I know, kid. But, that wasn't enough, your anger was to strong."

I looked into her eyes. "Please, Aileen, I can change... I'm not ready to die."

She suddenly smiled. "That's what I've been waiting to hear." Then, she tapped my forehead and everything turned to black...

Suddenly, my eyes shot open and my lungs desperately pulled in air. I sat straight up, six or seven doctors grabbed me and slowly laid me back down.

They were all trying to talk to me at once, but one voice caught my attention.

"Hey, you're ok, just try and relax."

I slowly turned my head, coming face to face with the owner of the voice.

She was remarkably beautiful, with long brown hair, big hazel eyes, and plush pink lips. Her smile alone was almost enough to give me another heart attack.

"What's your name?" I asked, my breathing immediately calming as I stared into her eyes.

   She smiled. "Nurse Barnes."

I slowly shook my head. "What's your real name?"

Her smile grew a little wider, a slight blush creeping onto her cheeks. "Hannah."

I smiled back. "Hannah..."

I was so lost in her eyes, I completely forgot about the other doctors and nurses in the room.

"Uh, Miss Berd, are you feeling ok?" One asked.

I nodded, refusing to pull my eyes from the beauty standing before me. "I'm more than ok."

Hannah giggled.

"Well, we'll let you get some rest." Another one said before they all started filing out the door.

Hannah started to follow them, but I gently grabbed her arm. "Wait."

She turned to me. "Yes, Miss Berd?"

"Please, call me Mikayla... and, when will I be seeing you again?"

She smiled. "Once we get you moved to a proper room, I'll come check on you whenever you'd like."

I smiled back. "Thank you, I look forward to it."

She threw a wave over her shoulder before exiting the room and closing the door.

I laid back with a happy sigh, closing my eyes.

   "She's cute."

I shot up once again, this time coming face to face with Aileen.

"Jesus, what the hell are you doing here?"

She sat down in the chair next to my bed. "I'm your anger angel, remember?"

   "You were serious about that?"

She nodded. "As serious as that heart attack you just had."

I laid back with a roll of my eyes. "Has anyone ever told you that your sense of humor is a little dark?"

She shrugged. "Yes actually, but none of them made it past the first day."

I locked eyes with her. "What do you mean?"

She smiled before running her finger across her throat.

I laid back with a huff. "Shit."

"Don't worry, kid, I have faith in you."

   "Why?"

She stood up and started pacing around. "Because, you're different than the rest. You have happiness in your heart, you just have to find it... when was the last time you got laid?"

"Really? That's what you wanna talk about?"

She threw her arms up. "Fair enough, I'll come back to that... yeah, anyway, your first assignment is to ask that cute nurse on a date."

I gave her a confused look. "Why?"

"Because, for thirty-two years you've carried this immense weight on your shoulders. Your parents didn't help, no friends, no girlfriends. You've been basically on your own and it's time to change that. It helps to have someone you can actually talk to."

"Why can't I just talk to you?"

She seemed to ponder it for a second. "Well, technically, I'm a figment of your imagination-"

"So, if I stop thinking about you, you'll go away?" I cut off.

"I said 'technically'. You're stuck with me until I feel you're able to control your anger and that means doing everything I ask."

   "And if I don't?"

"Then it's the old six feet under routine for you."

I sighed. "But, what if she says no?"

She flashed me a smirk. "I have a good feeling she won't."

"What? You can read minds now?"

She shrugged. "Maybe, maybe not... anyway, she's coming back so, I'll check in with you in a few. Stay happy, kid."

Then, she disappeared just as quickly as she came.

   "Wait? What-"

I was cut off by the door opening, Hannah strolling in with a clipboard in hand. "Everything ok in here?"

   I nodded. "Yep, never better."

She smiled. "That's good to hear."

I smiled back, feeling a slight blush creeping onto my cheeks.

She sat down in the chair next to my bed, handing me the clipboard. "I just need you to fill out a few things, then I'll get out of your hair."

I nodded and took the clipboard, filling out the box's she pointed out, then handed it back.

"That's all, we should have a room open for you by tomorrow morning at the latest."

   "Alright, thank you."

She smiled and nodded before heading for the door.

   I sighed. "Uh, Hannah?"

She turned around. "Yes, Miss Berd?"

I nervously played with my fingernails. "Um, I was wondering... Uh..."

   "Is everything ok?"

I let out a long breath and nodded. "Yeah, I was just wondering if I could have a pudding cup?"

She smiled. "Of course, I'll have it brought right up."

   "Thanks."

   She nodded before leaving.

"Damn, kid, you're worse off than I thought."

I put my hand up. "I don't wanna hear it."

Aileen chuckled. "Well, luckily for you, everyone gets a mulligan. But, if you don't ask her by the end of the day tomorrow, you're history."

I sank back into the bed with a long sigh. "Right..."
