Twenty Questions

Top pic credit: unknown. Tell me if you know

"Knock, knock! Sam!" I called out excitedly, walking into my little brother's room.

He quickly looked up from his book, eyes widening in surprise as he yanked his headphones off from around his ears.

"Ah!! What?? Ari!? No way! I didn't hear you come in!" He exclaimed, jumping off his bed at lightning speed.

"I figured. You always play your music too loud." I giggled, as he tackled me into a hug. He began aggressively swaying back and forth with me in his arms, the same way my mother does whenever she hugs me.

He's so tall now. He towers over me.

"Man, Ari. I really missed you." Sam said softly, hugging me a little tighter.

"I missed you too, kid. It's good to be back." I whispered, patting him on the back.

Sam scoffed lightly, still not releasing me from his embrace.

"Good to be back, huh? I heard you're barely here for twenty four hours. Can't really call that 'back', can you?" He mumbled softly, that familiar faint bitterness present in his voice.

I groaned softly at his words, ruffling his floppy hair.

"Sam, let's not do this right now. Let's just enjoy the weekend, okay?" I muttered dismissively, before hearing him gasp in excitement for something else.

I already knew what he was excited about.

"Oh yeah. Sam, this is-"

"H-HAWKS!??? OH MAN! DUDE, I AM SUCH A HUGE FAN!" My brother exclaimed, practically shoving me to the side to get to Keigo.

Keigo laughed softly, quickly shooting my brother that lazy, half lidded smile that he gives all of his fans.

"Hey, thanks! I'm a huge fan of you, too. Ari talks about ya all the time...says you have some great music taste." Keigo grinned, shooting him a thumbs up.

"I have no doubt you do, too!! I'm sure you already know that the headphones you wear with your hero costume are the year's most customized beats. The bass slaps about ten times harder, compared to normal headphones. I saw you wearing them, so I got myself a pair-oh! And I meant to ask you, do you listen to music when you fight? Do you have to think about flapping your wings, or does it just come naturally? How fast can you-" Sam started babbling a mile a minute, all of his questions coming out like verbal diarrhea.

"Okayyy then!! Don't hound him with twenty questions yet, Sammy. I can barely get the guy to answer one of mine." I laughed, lightly slapping a hand over my little brother's mouth to stop him from talking.

Keigo smiled warmly, simply walking past Sam and I to explore his room.

His eyes trailed to the walls, noticing the way they were absolutely littered with hero posters, news articles about rescues, and tips for becoming an amazing hero.

"So, you're a big fan of heroes, huh?" Keigo asked happily, walking up to one of the hero posters on the wall.....the Hawks poster, of course.

I've never actually seen a poster of Hawks before. My brother didn't start becoming a total fanboy over him, until he first hit the number three spot on the hero billboard charts.

I had to admit, he looked pretty cool. He was hovering in the sky, looking down at the camera as his wings stretched all the way out across his body. The sun shone brightly behind him, as he appeared to be descending towards the ground. His hands were on his hips, and his glasses were tinted dark to mysteriously hide his eyes.

"Y-Yeah. I really love heroes. I wish I could be one, someday." Sam said sheepishly, nervously watching Keigo walk around his room.

"Wish?! You can be one. You can do whatever you want. You've got the world at your fingertips, dude! How old are ya?" Keigo asked, picking up Sam's headphones....the same brand he wore, himself, when he was on duty.

Sam's shoulders slumped slightly at Keigo's words. I already knew why.

"I'm thirteen. But.....I'm....I-I'm....quirkless." He mumbled, my heart breaking as he slumped his head in shame.

"Aw, Sammy-" I started saying, about to pull him in for a hug, before Keigo immediately stepped in.

"And?" He simply asked, his hero voice not faltering in the slightest.

While Keigo wasn't being as over the top as he normally was, when we went out in public...he was still putting on a show for my little brother. He was treating him just like his other fans. Only, it was even more heartwarming because he was still just a little softer.

"W-What do you mean?" Sam asked, letting out a nervous chuckle at Keigo's question.

"You said you're quirkless, and that's why you think you can't be a hero. But, I don't think that's true. You know how many heroes use support items, nowadays? Sure, maybe I shouldn't be saying stuff like this, and exposing some people....but, Sam, there are heroes out there who barely even use their quirk, choosing to rely almost solely on their support items! Sure, you'll have to train a little harder than others. I ain't sayin' it's gonna be a real easy task, but that doesn't mean you can't do it!" Keigo stated, giving him a thumbs up.

Sam looked at Keigo in awe, clearly taking in every word. Sure, my parents and I always supported Sam. We always told him he could be a hero one day. But, hearing it come from the number two hero, himself....I know that meant something to him.

"W-Wow. Thanks, Hawks!!" He exclaimed, a beaming smile gracing his face.

Keigo began messing with Sam's headphones, adjusting some dial on the side of them.

"No problem! Also, hope you don't mind I adjusted your headphones for ya. It's just that not many people know that if you twist the right side to level three, and the left side to level six, it creates a much smoother sound. I know it sounds like a weird mix, but give it a try and lemme know if ya hear it, too!" Keigo smiled, tossing the headphones back to Sam.

Faster than lightning, Sam quickly stuck the headphones back on, shuffling a song to play.

After a few moments, he began bopping his head to the rhythm, grinning from ear to ear.

"Woah!!! That's amazing! How did you learn that trick!?" My brother yelled way too loudly, due to the volume of his music.

I shook my head in amusement, lightly tugging his headphones off, so he could hear properly.

Keigo laughed softly, surprisingly dropping his hero attitude just a little. The glazed, lazy look melted away from his eyes, leaving behind genuine content. I guess even though Sam was a major Hawks fan boy, Keigo still felt comfortable enough to drop his stage presence with him.

"Well...when you spend as much time with those things on as I do, you learn little tricks like that. Oh, and to answer all of your other questions...yeah, sometimes I listen to music when I fight. It helps calm me down, but I only do it when the fighting is easy. Something, like the High End Nomu, requires silence and complete focus. My headphones are primarily to protect my eardrums from the hounding wind. Nah, I don't really have to think about flapping my wings. It's the same way you walk, and run without thinking. Although, controlling my feathers does require my attention. I'm pretty sure your last question was gonna be, how fast can I fly? Well, I don't really measure that too much, but last time I checked, it was around 290 miles per hour. Now, that ya mention it though...I'd be curious to check again." Keigo explained, pursing his lips in thought at his last question.

Sam stood there in silent shock, digesting all of the information Keigo just told him.

Keigo laughed softly at his mute appearance, slowly fiddling with the stuff on his desk as he gave Sam time to process the situation.

"W-Wow...." Sam uttered out after a few moments, before turning to me.

"Hey, Ari...I see why you talk about him all the time. Hawks is awesome!" He exclaimed, causing my heart to jump out of my chest in embarrassment.

Keigo immediately looked up from what he was doing, shooting me a knowing smirk.

"She talks about me all the time, huh? What does she say?" He quickly asked Sam, sauntering back over to us.

Rolling my eyes, I quickly waved my hand around dismissively, trying to change the subject.

"What?? I-I do not talk about him all the time-"

"Whenever Ari calls home, she's always saying how funny you are, or how fast you fly in the sky, or how much fun it is going to work with you everyday. She also talks about how much she loves your wings quite a bit-" Sam began babbling, causing me to let out an exasperated groan of cringe embarrassment.

I felt Keigo wrap his arms around me, playfully ruffling my hair, as I buried my face in my hands.

"Wow. And here I was...thinking she hated my guts." Keigo laughed, quickly releasing me from his arms when he remembered my family isn't supposed to know we're dating.

"I do hate your guts." I countered lightly, cursing the smile that tried to fight its way onto my face.

Sam smiled softly as he watched Keigo and I interact, before letting out a sigh of content.

"I'm glad you guys are getting along.....um...but, I actually have a couple questions..." Sam started off, starting to fiddle with his thumbs.

Hm? He was nervous. Why?

"Sure, Sammy. What kind of questions-" I started saying, before he quickly spoke over me to get his words out.

"S-So, question one...how much time would you say you spend together outside of the Hawks Agency?" Sam asked, furrowing his brows in concentration.

Keigo and I looked at him in question, not understanding his abrupt shift in the conversation topic.

"Um....you know...we spend a little time outside of work. The way friends do." I explained, definitely downplaying the amount of time Keigo and I spend together.

Sam nodded, as if taking a mental note of my answer.

"Okay, great.....and what activities do you do together outside of work? Oh! And then my last question for the night, would be your relationship history, since you've started working at the Hawks Agency. Specific names would be greatly appreciated." Sam recited, tilting his head to the side as he waited for another answer.

Keigo cleared his throat quietly, letting me take the reigns on answering these questions.

"Hah....uh....what's with the sudden twenty questions, Sammy?" I asked sweetly, curious as to why he was so interested all of a sudden.

Normally, I'd just say that Sam is probably suspicious that Keigo and I are dating, and that by asking these questions...he's simply trying to get me to admit it.

But, I know my little brother. He's usually a very straightforward guy. If he thought Keigo and I were dating, he'd come out and say it, straight on.

The questions he's asking are specific, yet they beat around the bush in getting to the point. Plus, the manner in which he's asking them, sounds like he tried to memorize the words he was saying.

It's almost like....these aren't his own questions...

"Hm? Oh! I'm just asking! I-I haven't seen you in a long time, Ari. I just wanna know about your life. That's all it is-" Sam tried to reason, before the sound of my mother cut him off.

"Dinner's ready!" She called out from downstairs, giving Sam the perfect out he was looking for.

"Perfect! I'll see you guys downstairs." He smiled, before quickly walking out of the room.

Keigo and I were left there in silence for a moment, trying to digest what just happened.

"Hmm. What do you suppose that was all about?" He asked quietly, turning his golden eyes to me in question.

I shrugged my shoulders cluelessly, absentmindedly looking at the floor.

"I don't know. Something was a little off with him, towards the end there. But then again, I really haven't been home in awhile. Maybe he was just trying to bond with us a little more." I reasoned dismissively, as the smell of delicious food clouded my senses.

"Hm. Well, then I think it's a good thing you're back here." He smiled, arching his back for a stretch.

Before I could respond, my stomach erupted in a loud grumble of hunger.

Keigo laughed upon hearing the sound, shaking his head in amusement.

"Damn, chicky. We better get some food in ya before you mistake me for the meal." He smirked, starting to usher me out the door.

"Oh bite me, bird." I mumbled, rolling my eyes as I began walking out of my brother's room. Of course, I passed a certain hero poster along the way.

"Heh....nice smolder, Prince Charming." I retorted teasingly, gesturing to Keigo's serious hero face that was plastered on the wall.

He smirked, looking up at the poster in content.

"It better be nice. They payed me extra to keep a straight face."
