Perfect Opportunity

Hawks POV:

"Special delivery!" I called out, carelessly tossing the three villains on the ground, in front of the police.

"Wow, Hawks! You've done it again, huh? You're seriously amazing. Perfect, even!" One of the police officers beamed, clearly blowing smoke up my ass.

I didn't even do anything amazing. You can stop with the over exaggerated praise, PLEASE. I don't deserve it.

"No problem! It was a piece of cake, really." I started out, flashing the officers my usual fake smile, before continuing.

"Besides, I can't take all the credit..." I trailed off, noticing that Ari Parker was no longer next to me, the way I thought she was.

I quickly darted my eyes around the area, spotting her storming off in the opposite direction.

"Hey! Ari, wait up!" I called out, quickly excusing myself from the police officers to catch up with her.

"Beat it, Big Bird. I'm not in the mood for your shit, right now. Or ever." She mumbled...not even giving me the time of day, as she continued her pouty, little stomping.

I had to bite my lip to keep myself from laughing at her fuming demeanor. I didn't mean to make her so mad, back there. But wow, she looked just...very, very angry with me...and it was a little funny.

"Big Bird?! Ouch, that hurts. Right in the heart." I stated, feigning hurt feelings to get another reaction out of her.

I was disappointed when she simply rolled her eyes at me dismissively, trying to get me out of her sight again.

Feeling a little more serious now, I gently grabbed her arm to stop her from walking.

"Woah, woah. Ari, hang on a minute. I just want you to take the credit for stopping those villains, that's all. Taking down three villains is an impressive feat, especially for a student hero. It would help with your popularity, and stuff like that, if you're into that sort of thing. C'mon, c'mon." I suggested, trying to make up for being such a douchebag.

I began lightly trying to drag her over to the police officers, so she could get some praise, before she quickly yanked her arm out of my hold.

"Why the hell would I take credit for something I didn't do? Actually, you didn't even give me a chance to do anything! You simply waltzed in there, stopped me from moving, criticized my methods of fighting, and then proceeded to brag about how amazing you are. Here's some advice for you, number two hero....get a grip on reality, man. Get your head out of your own ass!" She exclaimed, quickly turning on her heel to storm back over to Ryukyu's group.

I simply watched her walk away from me, feeling slightly deflated and disappointed in myself.

"I also wanted to say thanks for saving my life, back there." I mumbled quietly, knowing she was way too far out of my sight to hear me.

God damn it. I always do this. I always say the wrong thing, at the wrong time. I really was just messing around with Ari back there. She seemed a little nervous to fight those villains, and I was just trying to lighten her mood. Hell, I didn't even know it was her, until I saw her up close.

I was pulled from my thoughts, when I noticed a giant group of civilians coming over to crowd me now.

"NO WAY! IT'S HAWKS!!"

"I HEARD HE TOOK OUT ALL OF THOSE VILLAINS BY HIMSELF! HE'S SO AMAZING!!"

"LOVE ME, HAWKS!!"

"MARRY ME!!"

I internally rolled my eyes, not wanting to deal with this mess of fans right now. Contrary to popular belief, I didn't actually enjoy being in the spotlight. I don't like all of the attention. It stresses me out, a little.

I quickly swiped my protective glasses back over my eyes, before turning to the police officers.

"Alright! You can take it from here, right guys?" I smirked, giving them a sloppy salute, as I quickly lifted myself into the air.

"Sorry, everyone! But, I'm off. I've got people to go, and places to talk to!" I exclaimed to the fans, purposely mixing up my words because I knew they'd find it charming.

That is my reputation, after all-The happy go lucky idiot, who doesn't know his head from his ass.

I heard some laughs, as well as some cries due to my quick leave.

Taking one last look at Ari Parker, I quickly flapped my wings, speeding off into the sky.

Damn, she didn't even look at me!

I'm no stranger to what Ari has been up to. I immediately recognized her name, once she was put into the hero world. That little girl I saved, all those years ago, really grew up. I never forgot about her.

I watched her kick ass in the sports festival for two years straight. I know she's working with Best Jeanist at his agency....or was. Funny thing is, I actually sent her an invitation to join my own agency, after her first year. My place was still brand new at the time, and I wanted her to be my first internee. But, I guess she turned me down for Jeanist. I admit, I'm still a little salty about that.

I watched her flourish at UA, before my very eyes. She quickly became the talk of the pro hero world, one to look out for once she graduated from school.

Well, I hadn't seen Ari in person since that day, eight years ago. I actually made plans to go and visit her, at Best Jeanist's agency. I wanted to catch up, tell her it was me who rescued her, and maybe even be her friend. But, I never got around to it.

...and how unfortunate that is, for me.

Because I made just about the worst possible first impression, I could have ever left. Now, the girl hates me. I also learned that she didn't even remember that I saved her, eight years ago. She looked at me, like she didn't even know me...and I guess she doesn't, technically.

I mean, that's part of the reason I didn't even bother to tell her the truth. If she didn't remember I saved her, why even bring it up? It must be something that wasn't very important to her. Or maybe it was too traumatic for her, and she just doesn't want to remember it. I don't know. But, either way...it just didn't seem like the right time to open that can of worms.

I sighed softly at my thoughts, realizing I was probably overthinking things to the max.

I peacefully flew around in the sky awhile, enjoying the quiet breeze, before I found a nice looking skyscraper.

"Yes, perfect!" I hummed lightly to myself, as I landed on the building that practically extended to the heavens.

Letting out a deep breath, I lazily plopped down onto the roof, laying on my back to look at the clouds. I could practically reach out and touch them.

Man, I loved it up here. I loved being up in the sky, away from it all. It was the only place, where I could really think.

I shuffled around in my pocket, pulling out my phone.

I already knew exactly who I wanted to call.

"Hello?" The person said from the other side of the line.

"Yoooo! Jeanist, my man! How've ya been, dude?!" I exclaimed, absentmindedly reaching my arm up to the sky, trying to touch the clouds.

I heard Best Jeanist give out a slightly irritated sigh through the phone, before he finally responded.

"Hmm, yes. Hello, Mr. Takami. What do you want?" He mumbled, getting straight to the point. I could have sworn I heard a kid in the background, screaming at someone to die. Must be my imagination.

"Huh?! Oh c'mon, Jeanie. Why do you always assume I want something? Maybe I'm just calling to say hello." I stated, closing my eyes as the sun softly peeked through the white, fluffy clouds.

"Mhmm....And are you just calling to say hello?" He retorted back, the slight amusement tone present in his voice.

I chuckled softly, feeling comfortable enough to drop my stage attitude.

"Heh...well...not exactly. I actually have a question for you." I said quietly, running a gloved hand through my hair.

"I know you do. Get on with it, Keigo. I don't have all day, here." Jeanist replied, the sound of someone yelling "die" filling the background noise again.

"Ari Parker. I thought she was your work study intern, not Ryukyu's." I muttered, watching the birds fly by.

"Yes, she was my intern. But, there's been a change in plans. You see....I've been "gifted" with another intern. A first year. I thought he'd be easy to tame and work quietly, but he's proven himself to be a little, blonde demon. I want to fix him though, and Ari is more than capable of going rogue. She's popular enough. Or, so I thought. I didn't know she went to Ryukyu." Best Jeanist replied.

I shrugged my shoulders, even though Jeanist couldn't see me.

"Ryukyu told me awhile back, how busy she is with her agency. It's probably a temporary position, for Ari." I said, hesitating to ask him my other question.

"Oh. Well, I wasn't aware of this. I really didn't think she even needed to go to another agency this year. I had full confidence that she could make it, that's why I was comfortable enough sending her off on her own. But, Katsuki Bakugou...he just really needs all my attention. If you met the boy, you'd understand." Jeanist explained, sounding obviously guilty now.

There's the perfect opportunity I've been waiting for.

"Oh! Well, hey...don't worry about it. I'll take her. She can come work at the Hawks agency. That's cool with you, right? Like, you're not planning to take her back, or anything? For sure?" I asked, not so subtly.

Sure, I wanted Ari to come work with me, because I wanted to pay her back for having to deal with my dickhead antics. But more than anything, I really needed a work study intern. I've had my agency open for three years now, and the only student I've been able to nab for an internship is Tokoyami. And even then...he hasn't started yet. All of the good students are constantly getting taken, before I even have a chance to ask. This would be a good opportunity for, both, Ari and I.

Best Jeanist was quiet for a moment, making me think he was second guessing his decision to let Ari go.

"Yes. I suppose I...won't be taking her back. Feel free to ask her, if you want. Though, I can't guarantee she'll say yes. I don't peg her as the type to swoon over bad boys." He joked, causing me to laugh lightly.

"Me? A bad boy? Please....have you met me?" I retorted softly, feeling the corners of my mouth turn up into a smile.

"I have had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting you, yes." Jeanist sighed, making me laugh again.

"Damn, man! What's with all the roasting me, today?" I chuckled, continuing to lounge around on the roof of the skyscraper.

"Sorry. I suppose I've been spending too much time with Bakugou." Best Jeanist remarked lightly, before continuing a moment later.

"Oh. And, Hawks....one more thing..." he uttered, giving me a moment to brace myself for whatever he was going to say next.

"Knowing you....I'm sure you've been around the block, if you know what I mean. What I'm trying to say is....Ari Parker. Don't break her heart." He stated firmly.

I sighed in content, adjusting my aviators slightly to shield the blooming sun.

"Don't worry. It's not even like that. This internship with Ari Parker will be strictly business. I can promise you that."
