Casual
Top pic credit: unknown. Tell me if you know
I glanced over at the clock in my office, checking the time for the countless time.
5:54pm.
Keigo was supposed to be back any minute, so we could complete this mission from Diane Himura.
Can't say I was looking forward to spending the night...in the cold...on a skyscraper. But, I was admittedly, looking forward to spending time with Keigo.
I heard the door suddenly open from the main room, causing me to immediately stand up.
"Hello? Keigs, you back?" I called out, quickly walking out of my office.
I was clearly taken aback when I was not met with the happy go lucky winged man, but instead...
A woman. Young. Beautiful-stunning, actually. Maybe just a few years older than me.
She saw me walk out of the office, immediately scanning her eyes down my face and body.
"Hi there! Hawks is out right now. I'm his intern. Can I help you?" I asked, shooting her a smile.
The girl simply scoffed, slowly sauntering over to me with her tall heels clicking and clacking along the way.
"Can I help you?" She countered over dramatically, giving me a threatening glare.
I stared at her, completely dumbfounded by what just happened.
"....What-I'm sorry, have we met before?" I uttered in confusion, not understanding where this hostile tone came from.
The girl simply shrugged, losing interest in me as she now began slowly walking around the cramped building.
"Yes, we have. Well, not directly. But, we've met. I see your type out there, everyday. Swooning over him like he's a god. Drooling and wishing he'd fall for you. Just like the others." She retorted mockingly, leaning against the kitchen counter.
She was clearly trying to be all vague and mysterious with her words. Plus, she was walking around very slowly, like some sloth who just smoked a fat joint. I think that was meant to make her look more threatening? But, I'm not sure honestly.
As much as I wanted to think of something super witty and awesome to say....I was so confused. So, the totally amazing comeback I ended up coming up with was...
"Huh...?"
"What I'm trying to say is, you're just another one of Keigo's fan girls." She pointed out matter of factly, walking back over to me now.
"No. I'm his intern. I thought I said that." I emphasized slowly, truthfully not understanding what she was getting at here.
She cleared her throat in frustration for me, trying to keep up her menacing facade.
"Well-Okay, in theory.....yes, you're his intern. But-"
"No. Like I'm actually his intern. He gave me this job. So, technically I am his intern.....in reality." I clarified cluelessly, noticing she was starting to fume at my lax behavior.
"God. I can see why he picked someone like you. You're practically...just like him." She seethed out through gritted teeth.
I felt myself starting to lose my patience with this woman. Waltzing in here like she owns the place. Please.
"I'm sorry, but who are you? Just get to the point of why you're here-" I began saying when the front door swung open.
"Ari, I'm back! Ready to...." Keigo started saying, immediately trailing off when he saw who was here.
"Hi Keigo. Long time no see." The girl stated mockingly, giving him a glare.
"Fuck." He muttered out, running a hand through his hair as he slowly came over to us.
I crossed my arms, curious as to what the hell he'd say about all of this.
"Kiara....h-how's it going! You've met my intern, I assume?" Keigo asked, already recovering from his shock from just a moment ago.
Wait.
That's...
Kiara. The girl who's been blowing up his phone nonstop.
Don't jump to conclusions. Could still just be his sister.
"Yep. Kiara and I have...met. She's a real peach." I stated sarcastically, watching Kiara shoot me a glare.
Keigo chuckled lightly, giving me a subtle, apologetic look.
"Oh yeah! Totally. So....why ya here?" He asked straight to the point, hiding his directness behind a charming smile.
Kiara looked over at me one more time, before sauntering over to Keigo.
Could still be his sister.
Keigo watched her, not moving from his spot, as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
Well...
He lightly rolled his eyes as she began trailing her manicured fingers along his shoulder. He didn't stop her from doing so.
Wellll....
"Kiara..." Keigo sighed in annoyance, about to push her off.
Before he could finish, Kiara suddenly brought her lips to his......giving him a kiss.
Well.
Okay. Yep, definitely not his sister. I hope-
It wasn't a heated kiss, or a long one. But, in my eyes...it definitely chewed up my feelings and spit them back out.
What an idiot I am. About to confess to the number two hero that I like him, when he's got a gorgeous, model girlfriend? Thank god I saved myself from that embarrassment. Actually, thank god Kiara saved me from that embarrassment.
Keigo quickly pulled away, immediately turning his eyes to me.
Why look at me? Focus on your girlfriend, birdie.
"Can you give us a minute? I'd like to speak to my boyfriend in private." Kiara called out over her shoulder, resting her head against Keigo's chest.
He quickly pushed her off him completely, walking over to me.
"She's not my girlfriend." He stated casually, attempting to give me an explanation. I'm not sure why he felt the need to do so. We were just friends.
"Yes, I am." Kiara countered.
"No, you're not." Keigo quickly said again.
I awkwardly stood there, as they began arguing back and forth.
After a moment, I quickly cleared my throat...going to walk away.
"Well....um, that definitely cleared things up." I chuckled quietly, trying to lighten the tension in the air.
Kiara and Keigo both turned to me, making me regret my words. Now, the attention was on me.
"Uh....so, I'm gonna....go....over there...if you need me....so....try not to need me hah! J-just....yeah. Okay." I mumbled as awkwardly as possible, before going into my office and closing the door.
Even through the closed door, I could still hear the conversation happening in the other room.....and I couldn't help but eavesdrop...
"Kiara. Listen, sweet cheeks...you can't just show up at my agency like this. I need a heads up, so I know when you're coming-"
"I'VE TRIED TO GIVE YOU A HEADS UP, YOU BIG STUPID CHICKEN! I'VE BEEN CALLING YOU FOR WEEKS!!" She screeched, sounding like a toddler who just lost their favorite toy.
"Oh. Oh yeah. You have, haven't ya. Right, well that one is on me." Keigo started off, realizing he fucked up.
He quickly continued a moment later.
"But, even so...it doesn't matter, you see. Because you and I aren't exclusive, remember? That was the deal. We keep this casual. Nothing else. You can't go around telling people we're boyfriend and girlfriend." He explained.
Ah. Casual. I see. So, Keigo and Kiara aren't in a relationship.....they're just....fucking.
I knew it. I knew he was a player. I'll be honest...I'm surprised that this is the first one of his conquests I've seen, since I've been here. I figured there'd be a new girl lining up outside the door everyday.
But, even so....this further affirms my second thoughts. Keigo doesn't have feelings for me. He's just a natural flirt. I don't want to end up like Kiara, wishing for something that's not there.
"I just never get to see youuu. Let's go out tonight." Kiara whined, bringing my attention back to the conversation.
"No can do, buckaroo! I've gotta work!" He immediately responded, sounding much happier than Kiara would have liked.
"W-Well, text me then!!" She pleaded, as the sound of footsteps began echoing in the place.
He was trying to usher her out.
"Don't know about that! I'm a pretty busy guy. But, I'll try!" He called out dismissively, before the door quickly shut.
It was quiet for a moment, before I heard Keigo mutter some profanities.
"Okayyy. You can come out now. Normally, when one listens behind a door, they do it behind one that's not practically translucent!" He laughed.
My eyes widened in pure embarrassment, as I quickly opened the door.
Keigo was a few feet away, crossing his arms in amusement.
I chuckled softly, running a hand through my hair as I realized I'd been caught.
"Sorry for eavesdropping." I said sheepishly, walking over to him.
"No you're not." He laughed, keeping his golden orbs trained on me.
"Okay. Yeah, you're right. That was like a low grade episode of Desperate Housewives. Of course you had me intrigued." I pointed out, following Keigo into his office.
"Yeah. That's Kiara for ya. The girl just doesn't seem to get the hint." He stated, pulling an empty duffel bag out of from under his desk.
He began putting things into it....a laptop, some binoculars, expensive looking night vision shit. All things we'd be using for our little sleepover tonight, if you can even call it that.
"Look. I'm probably the worst person to get relationship advice from....but the friends with benefits thing never works, dude. I mean, they even made a movie about how it never works! She's probably catching feelings for you. If you're leading her on....that's not fair to her." I explained. Even though I wasn't a fan of Kiara, it wasn't fair of Keigo to keep her on the hook like that. Typical fuck boy-
"Whoa there. Slow your roll, chicky! Kiara and I ain't sleeping together." He countered, stuffing a blanket into the bag as well.
Now I was just beyond confused.
"What? But I thought you said you guys had a casual relationship." I mumbled, watching his phone light up on the table.
Message from: Unknown
"Yeah. It's so casual that we don't do anything. We're basically just friends-actually, not even that. All we've done is kissed a few times. I'm not going further than that, with her. I've already told her that. I'm just paying attention to her as a favor." He explained, quickly grabbing his phone off the table.
He furrowed his brows lightly at the text message he received, starting to rapidly type away on his phone.
"A favor? What are you, like a prostitute without the sex?" I laughed, watching him slip his phone into his pocket.
"And what's wrong with that." He smirked, before tossing me the, now incredibly heavy, duffel bag.
"Hey, hey, hey!! Don't just carelessly toss me this bag. I saw what you put in there. The contents in this bag are worth more than everything I own!" I reprimanded.
"It's fine. If something breaks, I'll just go do my prostitute job to pay for a new one." He retorted teasingly, nodding for me to follow him.
I put the duffel bag over my shoulder, as Keigo and I walked outside into the cold, night air. It was already dark. The fight with Kiara put us back about thirty minutes with this mission.
"Alright. Here's how this is gonna work."
He stated, quickly locking up the Hawks Agency for the night.
"We're going to the skyscraper on seventh street. That's where the league of villains' air activity is said to be taking place. Obviously, we're flying there. You'll carry the duffel bag, and I'll carry the...you. Is this okay?" He smiled softly, clearly trying to reassure me since he knew I was afraid of heights.
"Yeah." I nodded, trusting Keigo to keep me safe in the air.
"Good. Here." He uttered, handing me a jacket.
It looked just like the bomber jacket he was currently sporting.
I took the jacket in question, seeing there were aviators and some headphones. The same stuff he wears with his hero costume.
"It's too cold to fly without some proper gear. This is my backup gear, in case some of my stuff gets broken. A big, cozy jacket for flying, some headphones to protect your ears from the cold air, and some aviators to protect your eyes from the wind and any dirt particles flying around the sky. Put 'em on." He stated.
I quickly put the warm jacket on, immediately smelling Keigo's wonderful scent all over it. Next, came the glasses and the headphones.
"Alright. How's this?" I asked, gesturing to my new look.
He studied me for a moment, before breaking out into a soft smile.
"You look...really cute." He uttered warmly.
Thank god it was dark, because my cheeks immediately began heating up from his words.
Before I had time to respond, Keigo quickly changed the subject.
"Ready to fly?" He asked, placing his hands on my shoulders to turn me around.
I swallowed thickly, still not quite used to the idea of flying. Sure, I trusted Keigo now. But, I've only been flying like twice. Of course, I was still a little nervous.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I croaked out nervously, feeling Keigo's arms wrap tightly around my waist.
Fucking feelings. Now I'm hot and flustered.
"Alright then. Let's do this! You better hold on tight, little booger!"
