chapter four
Split Apart And In The Dark
"Happy birhday Luke." A girl said as the band was stopped, a handful of fans walking up to them as the the hunters carried on walking.
"It's his birthday?" Sam asked, feeling bad that they were intruding on the kid's big day.
"Madison Square was his birthday." Jasmine corrected and he looked back at the band, watching them interact with their fans for a bit.
"Really?" Sam asked and Jasnine nodded. "Did you guys get to celebrate it or..."
"He spent it on a bus outside the venue, waiting to make sure off of the fans got out safely, and laying in his bunk tweeting apologies for tonight." Jasmine told them and the two men felt bad for him.
"How old is he?" Dean asked as they stopped at a nearby stop sign, waiting for the band to follow them.
"Twenty now, so he just got out of his teen years." She said and nodded. "We had this huge surprise for him. We, some crew members, their support acts, and I, were going to bring a giant cake out for him, but plans were cut short when the set was."
"Ouch." Dean said and shook his head. "Rescheduled it?"
"We haven't talked about it." Jasmine told them as the band walked up to them, each having a different expression.
Michael looked sad. Ashton looked irritated. Calum seemed exhausted and Luke seemed guilty. None of them looked good to put it shortly.
"Why the long faces? Didn't get their numbers?" Dean asked, giving them a short laugh and a smile to lighten the mood.
Calum just shook his head and took a drag of his cigarette, which he had lit when a fan pulled a pack out. He asked for one, and though she hesitated, she obviously let him have one. "Dean, not the time." He said and the adult nodded.
"I'm sorry, I just don't wanna see you guys looking like someone just killed your dog." He said and looked at Sam and Jasmine. "Where are we going?"
"MSG." Jasmine answered, looking at the gloomy band. "You guys can stay at the hotel with your friends and family if you wish. We don't mind."
"I don't wanna stay by myself." Michael said since none of his family could make it. His friends, more so the band's friends, probably wouldn't help him either.
"You wouldn't be though." Sam said, his eyes squinted slightly since he didn't have his sunglasses on him. "You'll be with your band, friends, and family."
"Sam," Jasmine said, grabbing his arm and looking at him. "Let it go." She told him and he nodded as Calum took a drag of his cigarette again.
"I want to go back to the hotel." Ashton said and Luke agreed. Calum said he was staying with Michael, and he claimed he was staying with Jasmine.
"I'll take them back." Sam said and Dean looked at him. "Just to be safe. I'll be fine. They'll be fine. You two ahead."
"You sure Sammy, I could go." Jasmine said and Dean looked at hee as if she had scratched his beloved car.
"Hey, get your own nickname for him. I call him Sammy." He protested and she looked at him.
"This is trivial Dean." She told him and Sam said that he'll take care of it.
"My brother, my nickname." Dean muttered under his breath as he looked at the Michael and Calum. "Come 'ere." He said and the two looked at Jasnine for approval. "Are you guys her pets or something."
"We just trust her more." Calum said as Sam walked off with Luke and Ashton. "No offense."
"None taken."
"Yeah, come on. They'll be fine." Jasmine said and the two nodded as they followed them. "So, Michael, where did you see the um, shadow?"
"In our dressing room." He told her and she nodded as she looked at Dean. "Do you really think it was a ghost or demon?"
"You want a comforting lie or a haunting truth? I can offer you only one." Jasmine said as Dean looked over at her, a gleam in his eyes, something like amusement and fondness.
"I'd take a lie."
"I want the truth."
Calum and Michael looked at each other, sharing a conversation silently. Either one was bad, confirming their suspicions. Calum wanted to verbally hear it wasn't anything our of the ordinary, though he had a hunch that it was. Michael wanted the truth, no matter how dumb it was or how much he didn't like it.
Though Dean and Jasmine were only telling one; a truth or a lie.
"A lie." Michael said, his gaze on Dean and Jasmine's backs as they continued walking.
They had the same posture, backs straight, head held high, with their shoulders pushed back a bit. They walked with confidence, with a sense of power and authority. Both were dressed similarly, and if anyone were to see them, they'd think they were some kind of power couple.
But they weren't.
They were two hunters who lost their mothers and fathers to supernatural bullshit, and that was a start to their current lives. Two hunters who cling to survival and have on and off friendships with demons, angels, and witches who would want nothing more than to see them finally drop dead. Two hunters who find rock n roll to be their comfort music and find their cars to be their baby. Two hunters who find that with their life style, they can't risk a relationship with anyone in fear of them becoming a target and ruining their lives with the hunting business.
Two hunters who come off as confident, put together, and fearless, but can break and fall apart into a pit of hidden insecurites and fears faster than you can say the words 'help me'.
"It was a shadow and you guys have absolutely nothing to worry about. Your equiptment was faulty and most likely sabotaged by a crew member in need of a new job." Jasmine said and Dean scoffed.
"Really? Is that the best you could do?" He asked, his voice saying it was a dumb but his expression showing that he actually liked her answer and thought it was clever.
"Got anything better Winchester?"
"No, but I know you did." He said and she rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"You don't know me well enough." She told him and Michael felt eyes on him, causing him to cling to Calum, who just looked at him, completely unfazed.
"Wanna tell me why your necklace is turning black?" Dean asked and Jasmine looked down at it, not questioning why he noticed so quickly.
"Let's go somewhere less public. If it isn't Castiel, this is gonna get messy." Jasmine said, looking around a bit before walking towards a building that was for lease.
They hid inside, Jasmine reaching for a knife made of pure silver and holy water. It was a gift from her brother, and no matter how much Dean begs, she refuses to let him so much as touch the weapon. He just looked at the shining weapon, the engravements shining orange quickly as the door opened.
"Where are we? What's going on?" Calum asked, his cigarette long gone by now. He wishes he had a pack on him, but he didn't. He didn't bring them and he was upset with himself.
Michael hugged Calum, afraid because the two adults held intimidating weapons and Jasmine's glowed. He's never seen a knife glow like it's in some kind of television show, and he was afraid of it.
"Dean." The two hunters heard and Jasmine was quick to put her knife away. The angel walked up to them, starring them both down before glancing at the two behind them. "Jasmine."
"Cas," Dean breathed out, thankful it wasn't anyone else. "What are you doing here?" He asked him.
"I heard you were out here and I decided to stop by." He told them and Jasmine gave him a hug. "Where have you been?" He asked her.
"Out and about."
"Who's this?" Calum asked, slightly shaken up but not as much as before. He was getting used to the idea of supernatural beings, but Michael on the other hand, was a babbling mess.
"He just came out of nowhere like a ghost and your knives glowed and-"
"Calm down." Jasmine said, pulling away from the angel. "He's a friend of ours, a good guy."
"Who are they?" Castiel asked, looking asked the two band members with confusion. "Are they hunters? They do not seem like it."
"They're in a band." Dean butt in as he put his hands in his pockets. "That one is the bassist, the other is the guitarist. What's the band named again?"
"5 Seconds of Summer."
"Why is there only 5 seconds inside of summer?" Castiel asked and Jasmine laughed. "There is a lot more-"
"Don't worry about it." She said as they began to leave the building. "We're on our way to Madison Square. Some crazy shit happened and we're going in to investigate."
"Where is Sam?" Castiel asked Dean and the older brother chuckled a bit.
"He's with the other members." Dean answered and Cas nodded. "We split up, though nothing good ever happens when we do that."
"You'll survive. It's Madison Square that we need to worry about, not a hotel." Jasmine said and Dean rolled his eyes as he looked at her. "Sam will be fine. You'll be fine."
"How are you so sure?" Michael asked and Jasmine put her hands in her pocket to grab her ID as they approached the venue.
"Because I'm here." She said confidently. She showed her ID and then pointed to the group behind her. "They're with me." She told the security guard, and he nodded, allowing the group to walk in because he recognized them.
"That was easy, almost too easy." Castiel said and Jasmine laughed as she looked around. "This place screams evil."
"The lights are out. No one has come to work because they're afraid." She said and walked around as she pulled her phone out, using the flashlight to look around the poorly lit place.
"Where was your dressing room?" Dean asked the two band members, who had chills running up their spines.
"I'll show you." Jasmine said, slowing down as her flashlight began flickering. "Michael, Calum, stay close." She said, more so demanded, and the two didn't bother to disobey.
She led the group to the dressing room, and Castiel took the job of making sure no one snuck behind the humans' back by staying behind a bit. An eerie feeling was settled in the venue, and he felt like this was something stronger than a ghost. Jasmine had the same hunch.
They walked into the dressing room and Jasmine's flashlight cut out completely. Someone clutched on to her and she grabbed their wrist. "Michael, calm down. Let me go." She said and he spoke up.
"J-Jas... that's not me."
"Calum?"
"No..."
"I know it's not Dean or Cas." She said and suddenly there was a bright flash behind them before the lights turned on.
"Cas?" Dean yelled when the angel was gone, and he saw a symbol scrawled messily on the wall in what seemed to be paint. "Cas is gone. Someone sent him away."
"Look who's using his head." Jasmine said, keeping the two bend members between her and Dean as she grabbed the knife once again. It glowed in her hand and Dean held a gun up.
"Who let the little hunters play with big kid toys?" They heard a taunting voice as the lights cut once more.
