The air was still cold and unforgiving, nipping at my skin, and making it prickle with chills. It felt as if Jack Frost were kissing my face, pecking my cheeks and nose as I slowly froze.

I imagined myself becoming one with the wall I was leaning on, freezing to it and being stuck there for the rest of my life.

Pushing the thought out of my mind, I checked the time for what was possibly the fifth time in ten minutes.

She should be here soon...

I was looking forward to having lunch with Mina, it could take my focus off of Stain and whatever the fuck was up with Iida.

He seemed so nervous now. Ever since I told the group about my theory concerning Stain he seemed on edge. All the time. He was fidgeting, playing with his hands and adjusting his glasses obsessively, rolling his lips between his teeth and looking at evidence with darting eyes. He would stop whenever someone looked his way, snapping back to the Iida we all know and love in a heartbeat.

It's almost like he's scared of encountering Stain again. I know his brother was attacked by Stain and left paralyzed, but I don't think that would make him feel this way.

With the way Iida is, I think he would be after Stain for revenge rather than cowering in fear at the mention of his name. The only thing I can think of that would cause him to be this scared is if he himself came in contact with Stain.

"Hey hey!" A voice yelled, making me look up. Mina was waving at me with one arm, the other holding a zip-up jacket closed over her body.

I smiled and waved, kicking off the wall of the agency.

"Are you ok?" She asked once she was closer. Her hair was tussled from the cold wind, curls sticking up and the sides in a haphazard manner. She had light eyeliner around her eyes and pink eye shadow made her face sparkle.

"Yeah!" I said, "of course! Why do you ask?"

"You just looked kind of angry; glaring at the sidewalk. But I'm glad you're ok!" She exclaimed, smiling wide and slipping her arm into the crook of mine.

"I am, sorry for worrying you. I was just deep in thought I suppose." I chuckled, trying not to sound nervous as I put my hand her arm, leading her down the street.

"Don't worry about it! I totally get it! My friends have told me I have this insane resting bitch face." I looked down, studying her face. Her lips were curled into a small smile, the corners of her eyes and mouth creasing.

"Really? I can't imagine you looking mean."

"That's what they say. I don't believe it though." She smiled up at me as she started leading me around a turn.

"Well you have to expect the unexpected I suppose," I said, laughing slightly.

"So, where are we going?"

"This cute little cafe opened up earlier this month, so I figured we'd eat there! Is that okay?" She asked, rubbing my arm with her thumb, still holding it.

"That sounds great. I'm looking forward to having lunch with you, work has been crazy lately."

"Lots of cases?"

"Just a lot of paperwork really. That's what I get for taking two weeks off I guess," I laughed as the lie rolled out, years of lying to my parents coming in handy for what seemed like the millionth time.

"Well you needed the break, they work you way too hard!"

I laughed at her comment, "it's alright, I enjoy it. Putting criminals away and keeping people safe is a different kind of satisfaction."

Mina giggled, pulling my arm down. I leaned down as she pulled, coming down to her height. She kissed my cheek before pulling away and laughing.

"You're so heroic," she commented as I stood back up straight. I reached up to touch my cheek, fingers grazing where her lips were.

"What was that for?" I asked.

She hummed, looking back up at me. Her eyes widened when she saw that I was touching my cheek and she quickly unlatched her arm from mine.

"I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have assumed that that was just ok, that was inconsiderate of me, I apologize!" She seemed embarrassed as she waved her hands in front of her.

"No, please, you're fine! I just was caught of guard!"

"Are you sure?" She asked, taking a small step closer to me.

"I'm positive, you just startled me is all." She smiled and took my arm again. We started walking and talking about silly little things like funny anecdotes and our past jobs.

Eventually, she stopped walking, pulling me to an abrupt stop as well.

"This is it! What do you think?" She turned to me for my opinion as I studied the front of the small cafe.

"It's cute. Breakfast for lunch I'm guessing?"

"They don't stop serving till one so I figured it was perfect. Is that ok?" She asked, suddenly seeming nervous.

"It's perfect, I don't think I've had an actual breakfast in at least two weeks." She smacked my arm as she pulled me inside.

"You need to eat actual breakfast idiot, it's important!" She exclaimed as she waved a hand at the receptionist. "Breakfast is the most important meal fo the day. You're supposed to be smart, why don't you know that?"

I laughed as we both sat in a table at the back corner,Β  obscured from view so no one would see us.

"I know it's important, I usually just don't have time in the mornings."

"Then make time!" She exclaimed, shrugging her jacket off. "I don't need you dying on me."

"I won't die from not eating breakfast Mina," I assured her, laughing.

"People have died from less, (Y/N). People have died from less."

(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)

"No, because why are you right?" Mina exclaimed, covering her mouth as she laughed.

"See! I'm right, people are just too afraid to admit it."

"How do you know these things?" She asked, hand covering her mouth as she laughed.

"Advanced hearing goes a long way my dear." She laughed harder, her eyes scrunching up and mouth opening wider as she laughed.

She opened her eyes again, looking at me as I laughed with her.

"Hold still a minute," she requested, leaning in and holding a hand out to my face.

I held my position, not daring to move as her hand cupped my cheek and her thumb brushed close to lips.

Oh my god, is she being forward? Is that what this is? She's coming out of fucking nowhere!

"There!" She exclaimed, leaning away again, a piece of white rice stuck to her thumb. "Sorry, it was just bothering me."

Oh.

"No, no," I assured her laughing, "you're just fine!"

I really need to calm down.

hey hey hey babes!

Fun Fact: mina just ✨won't✨ wipe away fall out sometimes. if her eye shadow is pink and sparkly (like it usually is) then she'll just spread any fallout she has across her cheeks for added shimmer.

i painted gon and killua on a mirror and i'm really proud of it but the mirror won't stay mounted on my wall😭

Reminder: It's ok to remember good things about people that hurt you. it's normal. just keep in mind that the good doesn't outweigh the bad. i love you allπŸ’žπŸ’ž

stop anti-asian hate crimes. it is appalling how people won't stand up for the culture they indulge in daily. don't be one of those people. there's a petition in my bio, since i can't paste stuff in chapters.

over and out.
