"Good evening Japan, my name is Kuba Ayaka and tonight we have with us Detective (L/N) of Musutafu. She was recently kidnapped my infamous villain Tomura Shigaraki, who is now in prison," spoke the slender woman to my left. She stared into the camera, looking determined.
I sat beside her, looking calm and collected, or at least I hope I did. I put on the face I have during press conferences, one that makes people feel safe and taken care of. In reality, I was beyond nervous. Between the feeling of dread in my gut, the people watching me live in their homes and the light that was currently blinding me, I was very very uncomfortable.
"So Detective," she said, gaining my attention, "what happened the night you were kidnapped? From our perspective, you walked into an alleyway and never came out the other side. What happened in that alley?"
"Well, all you have to do really is just answer my questions. We are live, so we can't edit anything out, meaning you have to censor yourself."
"Well," I said, thinking back to the dark and wet alleyway.
Just answer the questions.
"I was walking down the alley, just taking the shortcut home." I thought about that night. Most of it was a blur.
"I looked down at my feet and when I looked back up I was faced with this wall." I swallowed hard, thinking about how I saw Tomura for the first time in that room. "And I felt around the room I was in, it was someone's quirk that got me there, I'm sure."
"And Tomura Shigaraki was there in the room with you?"
"That's true, yes."
"During the week you were gone, crimes committed by Tomura Shigaraki were reported and he was seen around town. Where were you whole these crimes were bright committed?" She asked. Her eyes bore into my soul, making me fidget with my fingers under the table.
"I was put into the custody of Toga Himiko and Dabi." I responded coolly.
Make them think you're ok.
"You are aware that Dabi has terrorized this city for years and Toga Himiko has the highest kill count by a female in all of Japanese history, correct?"
"I am, yes."
"How did they treat you?" I felt like she wanted the details on my latest date, and that we weren't on live television but in my room, painting our nails while our face masks dried.
"Well, they treated me with kindness." Kuba looked at me in shock.
"Kindness?"
"Yes, if we were in a different situation, I wouldn't have known they were even villains."
Should I be saying this on live television?
"That's quite interesting. During Tomura's questioning, he stated he kidnapped you so, quote, 'we could be together.' Do you have any idea what he means?"
I felt the sweat roll down my back as I stared at the woman in front of me.
"Yes, I do. Tomura Shigaraki was- is, I suppose, in love with me." The crew behind the cameras covered their mouths in shock, Kuba's eyes widened.
I decided I wouldn't wait for the next question.
"He had been stalking me for some time, since I was a teenager, and he decided he would act on his feelings by kidnapping me. He had developed Obsessive Love Disorder, a mental illness that can cause homicidal tendencies. In pop culture today it goes by the term yandere. He told me numerous times that he loved me, mostly while he-" I stopped and looking away, almost gagging on my words. "While he cuddled me."
Kuba stared at me, still wide eyed, but caught her composure quick.
"We've seen both Ito and Nakada's posts on InstaGram and Tweeter saying how much they miss you. When are you returning to work?" She asked.
They monitor Chiharu and Daichi's socials? That's kind of creepy actually...
"In five days time. I'm beyond excited. I've missed my work." I smiled, making Kuba smile back. I'm not sure if it was sincere or just for the camera.
"And our last question for tonight is about the recent rumors that have been circulating the media in the last twenty-four hours. What do you have to say to the rumors that you and number one pro hero Deku are in a relationship?" I swallowed hard, taking a deep breath.
"I was hoping you would ask." I turned from her to the camera, looking straight into the lens. My mind went to the phone call we shared last night.
"Look Izuku, you don't need this right now. This could lead to scandal with Shoto or someone else." I explained.
"So what, it'll blow over. You can just ignore it and say nothing on the topic." He retorted.
"Izuku, listen to me. This could damage your career. I'm just trying to stop you from letting your career go under." I wasn't going to let myself be the reason he lost the spot at number one.
"I have spoken with Deku himself on the issue, and we agree on the fact that the rumors are false."
"We did kiss (Y/N)."
"Yes, we did, but that doesn't mean we're dating. It was a harmless spur-of-the-moment thing, right?" I asked. Izuku went silent.
"The photos in the article are of him walking me back to my apartment after running into each other."
I stared at the photo of me laughing, Izuku's hair in my face as he blushed.
"Well, at least we look good together right?" He asked, sighing heavily.
"We look great."
"We are not dating, nor are we in any sort of romantic relationship."
"Friends?"
"Friends forever." The green haired male let his hand drop to his side once he heard the dial tone. He set his phone on the table, walking over to the mirror that hung in the hallway he was pacing.
He looked at his reflection, covering his mouth to hide a sob.
"At least she can't see me." He said as he reached to wiped his reflection's tears, retreating from his own image in the glass.
We finished up the interview, and I left Kuba to let the makeup artists touch up her blush and hair while they were on commercial.
I walked down the hallway, away from the control room once I had said good bye to everyone, thanking them for letting me on.
I reached the elevator, stepping on. I was alone in the metal box, headed down to the lobby.
I bit my lip, trying to keep my composure.
I failed, slamming my back against the wall behind me, covering my mouth and choking on my own tears.
I had just told all of Japan that I was just friends with Izuku Midoriya.
The man I was just a little bit in love with.
Ouch.
We love angst here ๐
Fun Fact: When I was originally planning this book, the first plot point I thought of was, drum roll please! Dinner with Endeavor and Shoto! Originally, Fuyumi was there and took (Y/N) on a walk in the gardens while Shoto and Enji sat and talked. At the end of the chapter the girls would walk back in and over hear the father and son fighting about (Y/N), Enji saying, "She's weak," and
(Y/N) going feral. I decided to go a more calm route with that mostly because I think it shows how put together (Y/N) is.
Reminder: You are worth it. You are so worth it. Life is worth living for, even when it doesn't seem like it. I promise. I love you. ๐
Thank you guys so much for 125k reads and 6k votes! That's insane! ๐๐
Over and out.
