Chapter VII: Don't Stand So Close to Me

"Sensei!" Everyone exclaimed at the sight of the sleep deprived man that stood between the doors of the elevator. Stepping into the room, he sighed.

"You can call me Aizawa now, it's ok. I'm not your teacher anymore." Everyone laughs nervously at this, while I stifle a giggle.

Aizawa freezes.

Fuck.

"Are you alright, Aizawa Sensei?" Midoriya asks him.

"I'm fine, but I know that little schoolgirl giggle anywhere." His eyes search the crowd of pros before landing on me, the black sheep of the group.

"(Y/N)?" He asks.

"Aizawa Sensei? What are you doing here after hours?" I ask in a high pitched voice. He rolls his eyes.

"Oh shut up." I laugh.

"You first!" We make eye contact before I go in to hug him.

His grip is tight and loving, just as it always was.

"We miss you there. We didn't want to do it, we had no choice." He whispered in my ear.

"I know, and I forgave you all a long time ago. It's in the past." I smile, pulling away. I searched his face and the bags under his eyes. "You need more sleep."

"You need to talk to us more."

"Touché." We smile at each other, comfortable in each other's presence.

"I'm sorry, what?" Kaminari asks. I turn around to face him. "You and our first year home room teacher know each other?"

"Well, he was my teacher too." I say. Everyone wears a look of shock on their faces, making me look down. "It's a long story."

Everyone laughed at Kaminari's joke, and I chuckled as I went over to refill my cup with water.

"No, I will not." I hear someone mumble. "Yes, but— Dark Shadow!" I look around and spot a man leaning against a wall. He had the head of a bird, with a shadow like figure sprouting from his stomach.

'Becky, lemme smash.'

I try to hold back my giggle but I fail. The bird man looks at me and we make eye contact.

Holy crap. Her face. Look at it. Look at it!

I told you!

I nearly dropped my drink. This man is not alone in his head. I then realized the shadow part of his body was another entity. His quirk allowed him to have a shadow be a living entity that's a part of him.

I have to meet this man.

I smile, walking over. The shadow starts to preen at the mans feathers, before he was shoved away. The shadow retreated into his gut, and he fixed his shirt and cleared his throat.

"Hi. I'm (L/N) (Y/N)," I say, holding out my hand. He takes it quickly, shaking it.

"Tokoyami Fumikage. You're the detective I assume?" He asks, dropping my hand, putting his in his pocket.

"That would be me, yes." I say with a laugh. He chuckles looking at me.

"You've sent everyone into a ruckus. You interest everyone, I can see why." He says.

"Is that so?"

"Yes. You're a smart young woman, older than us, you came here, to an intimate get-together with the hothead after one date, which is odd enough in itself, and you went to UA, yet we hadn't really heard of you. When the subject came up, you and Aizawa dropped it almost immediately." He finishes, grabbing a glass of champagne from a tray that stood beside him.

"Am I intruding? Bakugo said he would like me here so I came." I said nervously, taking a sip of my water.

"Oh no, not at all. Dates are allowed, but no one ever brings anyone. Besides, these things get boring, you make it interesting." He explains, taking another sip.

"Alright then. I'm glad I could be of service," I say playfully, taking a small bow. He laughs aloud, making me laugh.

"There you are! Some more people finally got here and I want you to meet them!" Ochaco said, running over and grabbing my arm. "Can I steal her for a while Tokoyami?"

"Of course." He says, keeping eye contact with me. I put up a wall, making me not able to read his thoughts.

Ochaco pulls me into a crowd of people, and I lose sight of the bird man.

(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)/(/)

"Sero Hanta! Nice to meet you Detective." The man says, shaking my hand. I can't help but notice his elbows.

"Please call me (Y/N), no need for formalities." I say.

"I'm Toru! Can I call you (Y/N)?" The floating dress asks.

"Of course!" I chuckle at the end, think about how cute she was acting.

"And I'm Ojiro. Nice to meet you." The blonde says calmly, nodding in my direction.

"HaNtA?"

"DeNkI?"

"DuDe."

"dUdE."

I watch the strange reunion, which ended in a hug and Sero saying 'no homo,' to which Kaminari then put his hand on Sero's shoulder saying, 'yes homo bro.'

It was all very emotional.

"So how was the ride over with Sero?" Kirishima asks Ojiro.

"Well, he is a... character, isn't he?"

"He is that."

"Agent! I've been meaning to ask you about the Blue Ridge killer." Midoriya says, catching my attention.

"Well, you saw his confession. But there's something he's not saying, I can tell. When he repeated his confession to the court, he stared and smiled and me the whole time. If was... unnerving... to say the least." I explained. His eyes bore into me while he was on the stand.

I've looked at the eyes of killers before, who'd done much worse stuff than him. But yet, something was different. When he was put in the police cruiser, what he told me... 'he has plans for you,' it makes my spine shiver just thinking about it.

"The Blue Ridge Killer? The one that was just caught?" Todoroki asks, walking towards us.

"Yes, Midoriya and a few of his colleagues brought some crucial evidence to my office. That reminds me, did you ever find out who dropped the envelope off?"

"No we didn't, the security tape cuts out, then when it comes back on only seconds later, the envelope sits there." He explains.

"Strange."

"Very."

"What is it like catching a killer?" Todoroki asks. A few people gather around.

"Well I'm sure you know." I say.

"I've never caught a killer. A rapist once, on accident, but not a killer." He tells me.

"I've never caught either one. An arsonist once. Well, I caught him for robbery, but then he admitted to being the arsonist behind the Sakura Fires." Ochako comments.

"Mostly robbers. Thief's. Some gang members." Tokoyami says.

"I'm there for damage control more then anything," adds Sero.

"Oh. I didn't realize. Well, it's interesting. The whole process of finding a criminal is tedious, starting with solid evidence, a base profile, then branching from there." I explain, as Kirishima slides a stool in my direction. "Oh thank you." He nods and smiles before joining the crowd.

"Do you use your quirk at all when capturing someone?" Toru asks.

"Well, kind of? In the moment, no. And not really during the investigation. But during interrogations, I can have it over in a second.

"My quirk isn't based on combat at all, it's purely mental," I say, tapping my head. I notice a few people have sat down on the floor around me. "I can look into peoples heads, and pull up files on them, their brains are set up as computers. So if someone doesn't want to speak during interrogation time, I can, with their or their attorney's consent, look into their memories." Everyone seems fascinated.

"When in someone's mind, what do you see?" Iida asks.

"I can see medical records, memories, a personal and family profile, a chat room where I can read your past thoughts, personal goals, a quirk file. To list a few."

"Actually, when Bakugo let me look into his head the first time, I copied his quirk over to me. When I used it, he was so confused he didn't speak for a straight fifteen minutes." Everyone laughed. Kaminari nudged Bakugo.

"Dumbass." Bakugo says under his breath, so I smile widely at him. My eyes flicker to the back of the room, where Aizawa stands, leaned against a wall. He has his arms crossed in front of his body, and he's smiling wide.

We make eye contact.

You're doing so great for yourself kid. We're all so proud.

I smile, wiping away a tear, before turning around to answer a question Yaoyorozu asked.
