Chapter I: Friendly Neighborhood Asshole

Walking down the streets of Musutafu, Japan was interesting. It just felt like an anime opening, with the restaurants lining the streets, and the booths, stores. Wind blew through my hair. Cherry blossom petals fell everywhere. I could practically hear the corny music. Should I be monologuing right now? Am I the new girl at a high school with a past? Am I the quirky quiet girl that suddenly gets a glow up? Ha. As if.

I continue walking, sipping my tea as I go. It's piping hot, just how I like it. I thought about my case, the file I held so close to me chest that it was a part of me. The photos of women, and their victimology, the case that I had lived and breathed for the past three days. A serial rapist, obvious type, he left the women alive, did the deed while masked you could see only his eyes, and always left a gift at the scene. I got lost in my thoughts again, missing the fact I walked right pass my work place. Turning around and hoping no one saw, I walk back and into the agency.

"Agent (L/N), good morning," Chiharu chirped at me. She arranged some papers on her desk as she greeted me into our open lobby. Open, yet empty.

"Hello, my dear, any thing for me this morning?" I ask, while taking off my coat, hanging it on a slender hook.

"Just some cases, but I'm sending those through our communications liaison as we speak so you'll see them if you get briefed on them."

"Perfect. Call me if anything unusual happens," I say, clicking my tongue.

When I get to my office, my phone starts to ring.

"Whatcha got for me, hot stuff?" I ask to the man on the line.

"Oh, flirty. Very nice. So get this," I listen intently, hanging on my friends every word.

"Right. This is amazing, you never cease to amaze me, Daichi." I tell him. He laughs and hangs up.

After staring at my board and it's contents, my eyes widen in realization as I run to the lobby.

"(Y/N)!" Chiharu yelled. "There's just been another rape!"

"Where's the victim?" I ask, putting on my coat.

"The hospital on Main Street! LEM found the victim!"

"On my way!" I ran out and over a few blocks, the hospital within running distance. Maybe I can catch LEM. I have a few questions. I burst through the doors to the hospital, my nose attacked by the sterile smell that hospitals have.

'That's not very cash money of you good sir,' I think, gagging.

Flashing my badge at the nurse, she guides me to the ICU where the victim is. I thank her and look around. I see people, just normal people. Some are crying, there's a kid clutching his right arm. And there, in the middle of it all is LEM. He sits alone- his gauntlets are off, one in each of the chairs beside him. He grumbles as he fills out paperwork.

I take this as my time to approach.

"I told you I'm not doing autographs, now get lost!" He yells. My eardrums make a ringing sound and everyone in the room cringes.

"Sir, my name is (L/N) (Y/N). I'm head detective of this precinct, now, I'm working a serial rapist case, and I believe you found another one of my victims. May I sit?" I ask in my work voice, pointing the gauntlet on the right.

"Oh! Um... sure I guess. Whatever, extra." He grumbles the last bit under his breath, thinking I couldn't hear.

I pick up the gauntlet with one hand, getting out my notepad and pen with the other. I sit in the now clear chair, the gauntlet beside me. Facing LEM, I begin to ask questions.

"Can I get your full name?" I asked, not lifting my eyes from my paper.

"We're in public, I can't say. Like I would tell you anyway." I move my eyes up to him and raise an eyebrow.

"You're anxious. You're tapping your feet, you're done with the paper work, ready to get back to hero-ing. When does your shift end?"

"Wouldn't you like to know," he retorts.

"Sir please. I'm trying to be civil but you're making it very hard. I am SSA (L/N) and refuse to be treated like this so if you want to keep your job, I suggest you drop your attitude and respect me." I spit out, our eyes locked the whole time.

"Fine. My shift ends at nine PM." He grumbles, crossing his arms and looking down. I smile to myself, rummaging through my pockets, finally finding my business cards.

Handing the male one I say, "Meet me at my office at nine. We can talk there in private. Have a lovely day LEM. See you at nine." With that, and one final swish of my long cloak, I walk up to the front desk.

I'm told my victim was in surgery, so I quickly leave the hospital with plans to question her later.

On the streets I take out my phone, quickly dialing Daichi's number.

"What is it boss?"

"I need a list of all male electricians who work on Cherry Blossom Drive." I demand, knowing I have no time to waste.

"Over a hundred. Narrow it?" Daichi says, not even missing a beat.

"He drives a 2003 van, is single, and has a criminal record."

"Fourteen."

"Damn. How many worked at the victims houses the day or days before the rapes took place." I say sternly, my eyes on the prize with no wiggle room.

"Only one!" Daichi from there have me an address, and I called for backup.

The rapist lived in the bad part of town, where soot and grime covered everything in a thick layer of gross. We charge in, only to find he wasn't home. So we went to his work place.

A few workers pointed him out, and soon enough he was in handcuffs. We escorted him in a cop car to my agency where he was put into the interrogation room. I left him in the room alone for a few minutes for an intimidation factor.

After about five minutes I entered the cold room, clutching the ice cold case file in my hands.

"So... do you recognize these women?" I asked him, showing him the victims.

"Well sure, I gave them the night of their lives," he responded, smiling smugly and leaning back.

"So you raped them?" I asked bluntly. He gave me a look of surprise.

"Rape? No, no, I simply gave what they were asking for. They were practically begging me for it." He said.

"Uh huh. Well, I'm going show your picture to these women. We'll see if you really gave them the night of their lives." With one final glare, I exited the room calmly.

"Chiharu, can you get me the first victim? I think we have our guy."
