"Thanks for walking me to the agency," Mina said, smiling as she reached up to adjust my tie. It was black today, and peppered with little cartoon film clappers.

Our walk had ended, and while it was freezing, it was still very enjoyable.

She had said that she had business back at her agency, and I, in turn, offered to walk her there.

"It's no problem, just what any gentleman would do. I didn't realize you had a shift today."

"I don't, but I wanted to talk to Eijiro about something before I went home," she responded, hands moving from my tie to the lapels of my suit jacket.

"Well I hope your talk goes well," I smiled at her and her face spread into a grin.

Her teeth are very, very white. She's pretty when she smiles.

"Thank you! I hope work goes well for you too! So I'll see you Saturday? At the gala?" She bit her lip and smiled, looking up at me with excitement.

"Yeah, you'll see me there."

"Great!" Gripping my lapels, she pulled me down, smashing her lips onto my left cheek. She pulled away as quick as she pulled me in, kissing my right cheek and then finished by finally pecking my lips.

What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck.

"See you then," she mumbled once she had pulled away, but still stayed close to my face.

"See you then," I absentmindedly responded as she pushed me back up, flattened my lapels against my chest and turned to walk into Eijiro's agency.

I stood there for a moment, not quite sure what to do.

She justβ€” sheβ€” you know what? Okay.

I turned on my heel, still utterly confused, but not mad at what Mina had done. Just surprised.

Mina is definitely the kind of girl that platonically kisses her friends, no question, it's fine. Besides, I don't need another person liking me right now.

"Guys, that's Mina's crush, don't be so insensitive!"

"Let's see who can kiss (L/N) first."

She likes me doesn't she?

I listened to the cars passing by and my shoes clicking on the pavement as I walked and thought.

It was a nice kind of peace, the noises of the city.

I mean yeah, it gets annoying and for the first few months you can barely sleep at night because of it, butβ€” after a while it becomes calming. A sort of ambient white noise that you don't notice as much.

It's calming, and for the first time in a while, I had the time to stop and enjoy it.

All good things must come to an end I suppose, I thought as the subtle peace was interrupted by my (rather quiet, but the vibrating couldn't be ignored) ring tone.

I scrambled to grab my phone out of my back pocket as to not cause a scene, but I seemed to have failed since people look at me anyway.

I quickly answered the call as soon as the phone was in my hand properly and pressed the device to my ear.

"Detective (L/N) speaking."

"Hey (Y/N)."

The voice was familiar and I began to smile a bit in spite of myself.

"Hey Keigo, what's up?" I asked, letting my shoulders droop as my free hand grazed over my lips. I remembered the kiss Keigo and I had shared over a week ago and then the brief and fleeting one Mina and I had shared just a moment ago.

"Nothing much, I just wanted to ask if you were still interested in that second date."

Another flying lesson.

"Of course I am. When are you free?" Realizing I was just tapping my lips while walking down the street I swiftly shoved my hand in my pocket.

"I'm free this Saturday? I mean there's a hero gala scheduled and all but it's not important, I can skip it for you," he clarified, as if he really needed to justify the fact that yes, he could skip this gala.

"No need. I'm going to the gala this Saturday as a plus one," I explained.

"You're telling me I get to see you this week regardless of a date? Man, just call me the luckiest man alive." I could see his smile through the phone, as if telephone lines could pick up white teeth and crinkled eyes, the feeling of warmth and happiness a smile, his smile could hold.

"Yeah, yeah, save the flattery. I'll be there."

"Who are you going with?"

"Earphone Jack. She invited me to go, so there I shall be." I said, smiling at the thought of seeing him again.

Shoto might be there and if he sees Keigo and I acting the way we do... it could get ugly fast.

"Then I guess I won't be skipping it for once. I'll take any chance I can to see you." His smile hadn't faded as we spoke, it held as constant as it was when I first answered the phone. I could still hear it.

"Alright then, I'm excited to see you there."

"Have you been to one before?" He asked.

"I haven't, but from what I've heard they get pretty crazy."

"Oh yeah, no doubt. Everything goes to hell when cameras stop flashing. Pretty sure someone was missing for two days after the last one."

"Missing?" I asked, not really believing what he was saying. "For two days? Who?"

"Oh hell yeah. As for who, I couldn't tell you, I honestly don't know."

"Someone was missing for two days. A hero?"

Keigo hummed in agreement.

"And you don't know who?"

"Not a clue babe, not a clue. But hey, I'm sure this time will be fine. If it's not then you can solve the predicament with your super next-level detective skills!" He sounded cheery and I couldn't tell if he was joking.

I don't think he was.

"You make it sound like I'm a protagonist in a movie or something," I commented, laughing at his "joke."

"You might as well be, as over-powered as you are."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," I commented offhandedly, rolling my eyes as I smiled.

He laughed and I could just see him.

Sitting at a desk with his head thrown back and eyes squeezed shut.

I've got to stop imagining what people are doing while I'm on the phone with them.

"Will you save me a dance at least? These things are formal for at least two hours before all hell breaks loose. What do you say? Save me a dance? I won't step on your feet, swear it."

It was my turn to laugh at the sheer sincerity of his words, as if he was were actually promising not to step on my feet.

"What are you laughing at? I'm not as a great a dancer as I may seem but I promise youβ€” (L/N) (Y/N), I promise you that I will make a conscious effort not to step on your feet." He sounded so sincere it made me want to laugh again before I remembered I was in public and on the street. I was already getting weird looks.

"You act as if most people don't get this privilege Keigo, am I that special?" I asked, hand slightly covering my mouth as I tried not to laugh in public.

"Most people don't, but out of my love for you, I'd do it."

me: wants to cut my hair
also me: has an intense emotional connection to my hair for literally no reason and cries whenever i seriously think about cutting it

maybe i should talk to a professional about thatπŸ˜ƒ

Fun Fact: Keigo wasn't sitting at his desk while on the phone, he was at home eating lunch.

Reminder: Do whatever you want to do. You won't be young forever, so just go for it. Have ridiculous fun and enjoy yourself. My best friend is trying to teach me that, so I was wanted to share. I love you allπŸ’žπŸ’ž

Over and out.
