The Sibling Gang
America was weak. The states were burning. Lives were being lost and one seed of a country grew powerful as the other country crumbled.
That's right. It's me, The American Empire. I guess you could say that America is my dad, but he is long gone now. I feel little remorse. I knew him but he didn't know me.
I formed other country's with the land I conquered to help me. They are my sisters. United Union. Dakota. Flora.
Bully their names and I'll come for you and your country....
"What are you doing?" United Union glared at my back. It sent invisible shivers down my spine. I was talking to myself... in my head... as usual.
"I was debating how to divide Flordia with you..." I lied flawlessly.
"Bro, you haven't captured Flordia yet. This will never work..." She huffed and grabbed a melting coffee cup.
"It could." A wicked smile crossed my face. She raised her eyebrows. Not impressed.
"Just leave it to me, dear sister. Try not to burn your hands..." I slithered out of the kitchen with as much bad aura I could muster. That's when I ran smack dab into Dakota.
"Good morning!" She shouted. I greeted her back with less enthusiasm.
I hurried to my room because I could hear Untied Union's mocking laugh. Then a familiar scream shook the light yellow, crumbling brick home we all live in. We would only stay here for a small moment until I could take over a state. I ran into Flora's room and immediately started to leave. Several Barbies littered the floor and many leaned against the walls. All of them were positioned into T-poses. "Wait! Don't go!" Flora called out to me. I really really really wanted to leave, but how could I ignore my sister's call for help.
"Flora, what's wrong? And more importantly what's wrong with your room?"
"What do mean?" She blinked innocently with brown sparkling eyes.
I looked around her grey room. Countries these days...... "Never mind. Why did you scream this time?"
"I stepped on a Barbie..." Tears welled up into her eyes. My heart strings were being stretched like a rubber band.
"Maybe you should start cleaning up your room then." I crossed my arms and tried hard to hide my emotions.
"I was too tired last night!" She whined.
I sighed. "This is the only time! You have to start cleaning up after yourself." I waggled my finger like any other father figure would.
She nodded with a simple smile on her face, but I knew better. I heaved a deep sigh and threw all the creepy Barbies into a box and slid them into the back of the closet. "All done." I wiped my sweaty hands together. Man... it's hot in here.
"EMP! GET OVER HERE!" United Union screamed.
Oh no. This ain't good.
I hustled into the living room. My sister's stared at a TV in shock. America was making a speech. That's not unusual. "What's going on?"
United only pointed at the TV. Her shocked faced etched an O on her lips. I listened to the impressive American.
"Now, I know that there's been severe panic going around lately. I know that a virus is hurting our economy. I know that killer hornets are on the loose. I know UFOs have been confirmed and I know that people are rioting over race. I also know that we can stick together. I also know that we can get through this. I'm making and taking as many measures possible to protect you, States..."
The camera shows the fifty states listening intently to America.
"While I was making and taking those measures, I found something... interesting." America's eyes were visible today because his sunglasses were tucked firmly on his suit. He clearly was angry and disturbed at what he found. "There's an empire in my country!" America shouted with a voice of lightning.
Ah........ holy shit. He found me?
I looked over at my sister's who were all staring at me. "I thought you stayed hidden here!" United Union hissed.
"I did!" I threw up my arms to defend myself.
"What are we going to do?" Dakota whispered. She was young, but she understood the gravity of the situation. I sat down by Flora to think. An idea that no one would agree with cracked in my head.
"I could run away."
United hit me on my head, hard. "You're stupid."
"Where could you possibly go?" Dakota sighed sadly.
"To a possible ally." I rub my head with a smile.
"No." United crossed her arms. Her face ranked of anger.
"No!" Dakota was on the verge of tears.
"No?" Flora chimed in.
"What else can I do? America can't know about my existence! He'll destroy me!"
The girls glance with each other, knowing I'm right. "I don't want you to go!" Dakota cried. Flora copied Dakota and hugged on my arm. I pleaded with Untied Union's eyes.
"... let me sleep on it." She sighed. I nodded with a plan burning in my mind.
I woke up at 3:30 A.M.
I'm really surprised I woke myself up without an alarm. Though, this plan has been running around my head while I dreamed strange dreams. I was looking for a different ally though. Even United Union would accept this plan.... kinda. I shrugged my already packed bag of supplies on my back and slipped out of my window with ease.
It's better this way.
I think.
Laughter made me stop in my tracks. "I knew you would do this." I turned to find United Union rocking on a wooden rocking chair on our wooden porch. Shit. She held a shot gun and fire blazed in her deep black eyes. "Bitch, you thought you were going to leave." She said coldly. I could feel the daggers she was throwing my way. It didn't help that the night was uncomfortably cold.
"United..."
She loaded her gun. Holy shittttttttttt....
"I'm doing this for you!" I screamed as I ran. I'm sure the neighbors are awake now.
Sweat poured down my face. I've been running for awhile and I'm not even sure she followed me. I hid in the allies just in case. The shadows never move. The chapel isn't far. I ease out of my hiding place and kept moving toward my destination.
The moon made the chapel stand out like an ice castle. The white walls glittered and made the place look magical. The tallness of the building slightly frightened me, but I made a firm step up the steps and continued until I reached the chapel granite doors. Surely they would be locked, but I checked anyway. To my surprise the heavy doors slid out of my way. The arched ceiling, cool air, and dark atmosphere didn't settle well with me as I place myself before the alter.
"Earth?" I whispered.
"... can you hear me?" I called out again with uncertainty. I squinted my eyes and blocked all the thoughts streaking through my mind. I felt the cool air leave my skin and opened my eyes.
"Hello." A warm smile came from the bandaged planet.
"Woah!" I looked around the homey office.
The Earth chuckled. It sounded like music to my ears.
"Woah." I said again. I couldn't believe my crazy plan worked.
"We don't have much time..." Earth said quickly, but kindly.
Right. "I don't know what to do." I sighed.
"It's a rather tough situation. I hate the fighting option, but that seems like your only choice here." The Earth cringed. Surely, the planet will receive new bandages for his advice.
I nodded agreeing. "How could I start this off without meeting extreme resistance?"
"Obtain the capital." The Earth said simply. "Start with one of the weaker states near the capital and slowly build your territory."
"America will fight me full force." I frowned deeply.
"America isn't in a great shape right now." Earth sized me down. "With your sister countries, you could over power him. Eventually. It would take a little while."
I nodded soaking everything in. Earth coughed really hard. A very wet cough. Black goo covered his blue hand. He hid it from me with a downcast gaze of shame. Someone shuffled through the door and heat burned my skin. "Oh, sorry, Earth. I didn't know you had a visitor." A bright, extremely bright, planet placed some medicine onto the Earth's desk. "I brought you your medicine." The Sun smiled warmly.
"Thank you." Earth gave a shy smile back. Hold up... I smell chemistry.
"Don't worry, Mr. Sun, I was leaving anyway. Thank you, Earth." I bowed slightly. It felt ridiculous and right at the same time.
"Good bye, American Empire." The Earth waved with a bright smile on his bruised face.
I closed my eyes with focus and waved back. The cold air pushed against my skin. "Ahhhhhhhh." I sighed. Sun's heat was intolerable. I wondered how the Earth dealt with that. I left the chapel and ran straight into the United Union.
"What are you doing?" Her face seemed calmer than before, so I relaxed slightly.
"I just visited the Earth and the Sun!" I did a little jig in front of her.
She grabbed my ear. "And you're crazy. Let's go home." We walked silently in the cold, starless sky.
"I'm getting New York." I bluntly state.
United's black eyes narrowed in shock, but she continued to say nothing.
"We're taking the capital." I say next determinedly.
"You dream big, Brother." A rare smile formed on the Union's face.
"You know it!" I laughed into the night air.
