The Bridge and The Lizard
People sat in their car's honking their horn's at the traffic build up in front of them. Some people got out and looked around, seeing if they could tell what the cause of the hold up was. Ratha, from Oscorp was on his way to the Veteran's Hospital as promised, to begin testing the serum on the unknowing participants. The ground started to shake, and scream's were heard and crashing of car's, people running away from whatever lay behind them.
"Hey, what is that?"
"I don't know!"
"Get back in the car!"
"Run!"
The screaming civilians shouted as the ran away from the giant green monster. Ratha was trapped inside his vehicle unable to get out.
I landed on the top of the bridge and looked down. The giant green thing looked like a dinosaur. Tall and a long tail, roaring as it searched each car on it's way by. I pulled off my jacket and shirt, putting on my mask and gloves. Kicking off my pant's, stuffing everything back inside my bag. Leaving it on top of the bridge. I leapt off my perch and the giant Lizard, tossed a car over the side of the bridge.
I shot out a web attaching it to the car and then attaching it to the bridge. Allowing it to dangle from its high height above the water. There was no one inside, so I moved on catching each of the other vehicles being thrown over.
The Lizard found Ratha's vehicle and punched it's large scaley hand through the ceiling attempting to grab at him. When that didn't work, he punched through both of the back seat window's, clawing desperately on each side. Ratha managed to avoid the deadly sharp claws and waited as the lizard's hand's disappeared. The vehicle suddenly lurched forward as the Lizard lifted the vehicle into the air. He tossed it over the bridge just as I swung down toward's him.
"Incoming!" I shouted and kicked the Lizard in the chest. Knocking the large creature away as it roared.
I stood on the edge of the bridge and shot out a web to the back of the car, catching the vehicle just in time. I grunted and attached the webbing to the side. I looked over hearing the Lizard growl and noticed it large tail.
The Lizard held it's hand as it started to disappear on him. It looked back noticing the person who had foiled it's plans.
I wanted to go after him, but someone started shouting and I turned my head to look.
"Help me! My kid is trapped!"
The Lizard growled again and began running away, making me look back at it. I decided to help the dad and his kid. I shot out a web and swung over to the minivan that was dangling along the side of the bridge by my web. I landed on the trunk and ripped out the glass.
"I want my dad! Dad!" The frightened boy screamed.
"Hey, hey, hey." I said softly.
"Help!" He screamed.
"It's okay, buddy. It's all right. I'm here to help you." I told him and the kid turned around looking at me even more frightened.
"Get away."
"Hey, look." I pulled off my mask revealing my face. "I'm just a normal girl, all right?" I said calmly as the kid looked at me. His breathing became less panicked, but still unsure. "Here, hold onto this for me. It's just a mask. See?" I tossed it down to him and he caught it in his hand's. "What's your name?" I looked around and noticed a duffle bag. "Jack?" I asked.
"Yes."
"Let's get you out of here." I leaned into the open back and the car creaked. "Stay very still, okay? I'm coming down to get you."
"All right." He said quietly.
"I've got you."
I didn't notice the gasoline beginning to pour out alongside the outside of the vehicle. I crouched on the seat next to his and looked at the situation in front of me. He was trapped in his seatbelt.
"Okay, now, look. I'm going to undo your belt. You are gonna be super brave and hold onto the seat in front of you. On three? All right. One, two, three!" I unbuckled his jammed belt and he held onto the driver seat in front of him. Turning around to look at me. "Great job! You see how easy that was?"
The front of the car began to catch on fire starting at the headlights and moving upward. I heard the flames and looked forward. The web behind me snapped and the car started falling downward. I held tightly to the truck door of the van and shot out another web up at the bridge. We bounced as Jack screamed. I grunted from the weight and held tightly to the web and the car.
"Jack, climb now!" I yelled down to him.
"I can't!" He yelled back, scared.
"Yes, yes you can." I looked down into the terrified eyes of that little boy, trying to figure out how to get him out safely. "Put it on! The mask, it'll make you really strong, okay? Jack, please trust me. Put the mask on." Jack took the mask and placed it on over his face. "Great job, buddy. Now, climb on up here to me." I told him and the car creaked. The door in my hand bent and stretched. I looked down at Jack to see him starting to climb up toward's me with my mask on his face. "You're doing great, bud. Move a little faster!" I groaned. "So great, keep coming. Keep coming."
Jack was almost to me, reaching out his hand when the car fell from my hand. Jack screamed.
"No!" I yelled shooting out a web. It attached to his chest and he was pulled out of the van as it feel into the water. I sighed in relief and pulled him up to me. I wrapped my arm's around him and put my mask back on my face. Swinging us up to the bridge.
"Jack! Oh, god. Thank god. Are you okay?" His father grabbed ahold of him, as I lifted him onto the bridge. He hugged his son tightly. I perched myself behind them in my spider pose and watched the heartwarming moment between the two. He turned and looked at me. "Who are you?"
"Spider-Woman." I said simply. My web thwiped from my wrist and I swung off.
I got home and sat on my floor looking at my mask, deciding what I wanted to do. Helping that boy made me realize, I could do so much more than go after the one man. I could help people....
In the sewer's, The giant Lizard, shed his skin and transformed back into a man. The man was Curtis Connors. He injected himself with the serum, prematurely so's not to lose his job. But instead it turned him into a giant Lizard.
