Roosevelt
Peter was walking down the street and I swung down in regular clothing behind him knocking into the wall with a thud.
"Oof! Ow..." I grabbed my head and stood to my feet.
"Cate?" Peter turned around and ran to me steadying me. "What are you doing?"
"I-I don't know. All I know is I need you. Everything in my head is a mess. A giant mess." We walked into a more private spot and I began my rant, pacing back and forth. "Our parent's? Everything we thought about them. Lies! Ha! Lies! Nothing makes sense anymore. So, here I am trying to figure out what to do. Trying to figure out them, and Harry. Oh, god Harry. He's so angry Peter. I want to save him I really do. But wh-what if my blood doesn't work? What if it does work? I don't know. I have no idea." I began laughing awkwardly and Peter chuckled along with me.
He put his hand's on my arm's and held them steady, rubbing them up and down.
"I've got nothing really. The only thing I keep coming back to is, is." I sighed and threw my face in my hand's.
"I think you need a break. I think you've been putting yourself under so much stress and pressure lately and I know I haven't been of much help, because maybe we've been on different paths. I don't know. But listen. I'm always here for you even when it doesn't feel like it..."
"I just don't know what to do Peter... I'm so stuck and so lost." I leaned my head into his chest and he rubbed my back.
"Come on. Show me whatever it is you've been working on that's got you so stuck." Peter said softly.
I looked up at him and scoffed.
We made it back to my house and I took him to my room and showed him my stupid wall.
"See this?" I said angrily. "This is what I've been working on! Stupid, good for nothing..." I kicked my table. I groaned and then started tearing down my wall.
Peter sat on my bed and watched me take my anger and sadness and frustrations out. I grabbed the calculator on the desk and threw it at the wall causing it to shatter open.
"Whoa there. Let's not break Mary's house, tough girl, huh?" Peter said softly. He looked down at the floor as I did and we saw all these scattered coins all over the floor. "Cate?" Peter picked up the back of the calculator and shook it out, as more coins fell.
"What are these?" I whispered more to myself than anything. "He took the D train every morning at 7:00 am, came home at 6:00 pm every night." Mary's voice echoed in my head.
"I think they're subway coins..." Peter said inspecting one closely.
I hopped into my chair and started typing on the computer. Roosevelt + Subway + D-train.
"What are you looking for?" Peter asked quietly. Putting a hand on the back of my chair and one one my desk.
"Aunt Mary said something to me earlier when I asked her about my parent's. Something about my dad always taking the same train everyday."
I clicked on a link that said Transportation study: Abandoned Stations.
"Roosevelt's Secret Station?" Peter read curiously.
"Hmm, track 61, a secret subterranean extension of New York's D Line train under Pershing Square, originally built to transport President Franklin Roosevelt away from the public eye, to keep his polio hidden from the American people." I read off the facts and gasped looking back at the coins in my hands. "This is it. It has to be. What if they were working secretly underground. I have to go and find answers." I got off my chair and went for the door. Peter quickly grabbed my hand.
'Whoa there. I'm coming with you."
"Uh, no. I think it's best that you stay here and I'll come back and tell your after. We have no idea what's down there." I explained.
"No, I've told you before we are in this together and this isn't just your parent's, Cate. This is about what happened to mine too and I think I deserve to know also. On top of the fact that I know you could use the company. I'm coming whether you like it or not." Peter smirked and walked out the door leaving me speechless. I shook my head and followed after him.
I helped Peter into the Subway tunnels and we walked around them, avoiding the patrolling worker's and under large doors. We finally reached the large abandoned wait station. I hopped up first onto the platform and then reached down for Peter's hand's helping him up.
"Roosevelt." Peter read as he touched the lettering on the walls. "So, where do we go from here?" He asked and I shrugged.
We walked around and my eye's widened seeing the closed off doorway, with the coin machine in front of it.
"Hmmm, why would these be here if it's not meant to be used..." I asked as a whisper. I took a coin and put it in the slot, walking through the bar to the wall. But nothing happened... Angrily I kicked the wall. And then hit it. "Stupid... Waste of time. I'm sorry... Peter?" I looked at him as we both heard a deep mechanical rumbling.
I hopped over the bar and Peter and I rushed to the edge of the tracks, seeing them shift and open up revealing a train that came to the surface. We looked at each other and he smiled at me, grabbing my hand. The door's to the small subway car opened and we walked cautiously over to it as all the light's on the inside came on.
"Wow." We both said breathlessly.
The entire subway car had been changed into some sort of small secret laboratory. We walked in separate direction's looking at everything inside. On one of the computer's that was blinking, in both corner's of the frame were pictures. One was a picture of Peter and his father and the other was a picture of me and my father.
"Peter, there a completed download over here that hasn't been opened." I said softly and he walked over as I clicked open. It was a video file.
"Testing. Testing." Two men sat in front of the computer. We both gasped softly seeing our Dad's sitting together on what looked like a plane. "My name is David Barrett."
"My name is Richard Parker. Whatever lies will be told about us, we would like the world to know the truth." Richard said.
"Oscorp was already a leader in genetic research when Norman Osborn made a deal with a foreign military organization to continue funding our research." David said into the camera. "We have discovered what they were going to use it for— Weapons, biological weapons, of course. So when I refused, they turned to Richard who also refused."
"And now to eliminate us from the picture, Norman Osborn has falsified evidence against us both in order to take control of our work."
"But none of that matter's because there's something else that Norman doesn't know. The human DNA that I, myself implanted in the spider's was my own. Which mean's that without me, without my bloodline, Oscorp can never replicate or continue our experiments." David, my father said. I covered my mouth and Peter held my hand tightly.
"I have destroyed as much as possible from the archives, but I didn't have time to kill all the spider's, so, as scientists, our choice is very clear now. We have to disappear. We have to get as far away as we can. But as Father's..." Richard sucked in a breath. "It mean's we may never seen our kids again. My boy."
"And my girl. And nothing is as important to me as my daughter, Catherine." David smiled into the camera.
Both Peter and I had tear's coming from our eyes as we watched them speak about us and what really happened to them. He held me tightly to him.
"As is nothing as important to me than my son, Peter. Nothing in this world. But we have a responsibility to protect the world from what we've created and to protect them both from what we know Osborn is capable of." Richard Parker spoke.
"People will say we are monster's... For what we've done. And maybe they're right. I always thought that we'd have more time..." David said and Richard put a hand on his friends shoulder. The video cut out.
"I just... can't believe it..." I said quietly into Peter's chest.
"I know, I know. Me either."
Unknown to us, Harry Osborn was cut out of his own company and went to see Electro. Helping him to escape, both plotting against Spider-Woman.
