Meeting with Harry
After dropping Peter off at home I took off my suit and threw it into my closet, covering up the brief case my father left behind, just like me. The new's was covering the story from time square and I turned it off. I looked at my web shooter and knew I was going to need to do something about it. I opened up my closet again and sighed closing the door. I opened it up again for a final time, I grabbed the briefcase and shook out the content's onto my floor. So many unanswered questions of my life still remained.
A notepad with the word's Roosevelt 2pm were written down. I rushed to my computer and searched anything and everything to do with Roosevelt. I printed out everything, articles, pictures, making a map along my wall taping all the pictures together.
I sighed looking at the giant map on my wall and grabbed my web shooter, taking it down into the basement.
Turning on YouTube, I researched the do's and don't of electricity. I tried several experiment's to make it so if I faced Electro again, my web shooter's wouldn't fry up. I might have even accidentally caught my web's on fire... Needless to say, I hadn't finished yet and I was exhausted when I got a phone call from Harry.
"Hello?" I said tiredly.
"Hey, Cate. It's me."
"Hi, Harry... what-what time is it?"
"Uh, late, early... I don't know. I've been up all night. I need to see you." He sounded... different.
"Are you alright?"
"Not really, Cate. I'm dying. But I think you can help save my life?"
"Yeah, yeah. Sure. I'll be right over."
I left to get to Oscorp tower. Peter called me on the way and told me that Max Dillon was an Oscorp employee, that he hadn't seen for a few days. I asked him to find out any information that he could and that I'd meet him later. When I got there Harry set us up in the conference room. Told me he had something he needed to show me.
"You're looking at the world's first human-spider hybrids." David Barrett, my father said opening up the video. The same kind of spider's that I was bitten by revealed on the screen.
"The hope is to extract the venom from their glands and turn that into a cure." Richard Parker explained. "An agent that heals diseased cell's."
"And if I can be cured, imagine what this could do for other diseases like Alzheimer's, even cancer." Norman Osborn said and Harry turned the video off.
"They never made it to human trials. It's fourteen years of research, and nothing to show for it..." Harry looked at me and stood to his feet. "Except maybe this." Harry slammed down today's paper with a picture of Spider-Woman on it swinging through the city. "Spider-Woman." Harry smiled.
"What about her?" I asked curiously.
"She was bitten by one of those things, and it worked. I don't know how, and I don't know why, but she can do everything else a spider can, including self heal. I need to find her. I need her blood."
"Y-you need, Spider-Woman's blood?" I slowly sat down in the chair and looked astounded at Harry.
"It'll save my life." Harry said seriously.
"It may not, Harry... It may not be that simple. You saw what happened to Curt Connors, right?" I retorted.
"Connors was weak. This is me, Cate." Harry spoke out, trying to control his temper.
"I don't think you can just set up a van and have her donate. I mean, I'm sure she's probably a bit sensitive about..."
"Sensitive... Sensitive." Harry scoffed.
"About people shoving needles and... well, I don't know." I gave up trying to explain.
"So, she's sensitive, okay, okay. Well, then, maybe you could just sensitively tell me where she is and I will go ask her myself!"
"What?! Why would you think I know how to find her?" I asked shocked.
"You took her picture." Harry pointed to my name at the bottom of the photo, stating that I took the picture. I silently cursed the paper for such facts.
"So?" I asked, playing dumb.
"You know her."
"Harry... I took a picture from a long ways away. I used a long lens. I don't know her. I mean, there's so many paper's out there that have pictures of her..."
"I put together what you said at the river." Harry stated and I nervously adjusted myself in my seat.
"What, I?..."
"About how she gives people hope. Come on...." He whispered, pleading with me. "Just say yes..."
I groaned quietly and got up from my seat and went to the door. Harry grabbed my arm from behind me.
"Don't turn your back on me! I don't want to end up like my father, Cate... Please. Cate, please. I can't." He whispered and hugged me tightly. I hugged him back and sighed.
"I'll try, Harry. I'll try to find her, Spider-Woman. But... Harry."
"That's plenty, Cate. Thank you." He looked into my eyes and I turned away walking out the door.
I walked through the hallways and started going down into the elevator. I walked Peter, fast walk across one of the platform's. I stopped the elevator and got out, running into him.
"Hi." I chuckled.
"Hi." Peter laughed. He shook his head and realized he was still being chased by security. "Wait, wait. We have to hide."
I pulled his hand and we went into the nearest closet. Watching the security people walk by.
"He's not here. Check on another floor." The security guard said.
"Oh, no. You're in trouble. What happened?" I looked up at Peter's face and asked him curiously.
"Well, I was looking up Max Dillon. Then, I suddenly got shut out of the system. There was an accident in the genomics lab and they're covering it up. So, since I found out..." He gestured as to why he was being chased.
"So, the guy from time square last night?"
"Yep. I met him once before. He was an electrical engineer in the building. Oh, and get this. He loved, Spider-Woman. He was like a fanatic." Peter smirked.
"Ha. Yeah, well after the cops stepped in, I definitely wasn't getting any love vibes from him. It was more of a want to kill-me-with-his-electricity vibe." I explained with a small huff.
"Well, I was searching the computer for him, and all the files, he's been erased." Peter explained.
"Oh, my god. That's Oscorp..." I whispered and sighed as the guards came back around again.
"And what about you? What happened with Harry?" He asked me quietly.
"He's dying..." I said and his eyes widened. "Peter he think's the only thing that can save his life is my blood, Spider-Woman's blood. He showed me this video of our parent's working on the same spider's that I was bitten by. And honestly, as far as we know, if I give it to him. It could kill him."
"Or something worse." Peter nodded in agreement. We both thought about Dr. Connors.
"I know." I sighed.
Peter looked back through the small opening on the door and chuckled.
"This is a maintenance closet, Cate. This is the most cliche hiding place you could have chosen."
"Oh, I'm sorry." I said sarcastically. "And yet they still haven't found you yet either have they?"
He smirked and leaned in kissing me deeply.
"Wow." I said breathlessly as we pulled away. "That, that... was..."
"How'd you like it? Thought I'd surprise you." He asked making me blush.
"It was good." I giggled. "Okay, okay. We need to get out of this closet. You're going to go to the elevator and I'll distract them, okay?"
"Okay."
"Okay."
We opened the doorway and Peter power walked over to the elevator's. I stayed by the side of the wall, near the hallway they were about to walk down. I shot out a web at a Oscorp mug on a cart and pulled it back to my hands. I sensed the man walking around the corner and I walked out in front of him. We knocked together and the liquid inside the mug spilled all over him.
"God damn it!" The man shrieked as the hot coffee landed on him.
"Whaaat. I'm so sorry. I just spilled hot coffee all over your..." I bent down, wiping down his pant's and stuck out my foot tripping the next guard. "I didn't mean to do that." I jumped back up to my feet as he fell into the oncoming cart, the last of the liquid landing on the last guard's face. "Oh no! And you too!? What is with me today?"
"Sir stay right there!" He called out as the elevator door dinged open. Peter pursed his lips together trying to hide his laughter, walking into the elevator.
"I'm so sorry, sir." I apologized again.
"Hey! Stop!" The other two made it to the elevator as the doors closed.
The main man fell to the ground after realizing his shoe laces had somehow been tied together in all the chaos.
"I'm sorry. I'm all thumbs today!" I called out walking away to the other side of the building, where I knew I could exit.
Peter stood in the elevator trying to maintain his chuckle, until someone spooked him.
"Peter Parker." Harry said with a smile.
"Oh, my god!" Peter breathed heavily and looked back at Harry. "Wow, it's so great to see you man." The pair gave each other a quick hug and separated. "Wow, I'm sorry I haven't, uh, been able to make time to see you lately."
"Right, right. You work for me. It's okay." Harry chuckled. " Cate told me."
"Right. Yeah."
"So, you two?" Harry asked, even though he already knew the answer.
"Uh, yeah. We've been together for over a year now. Thing's have been a bit..."
"Complicated?" Harry chuckled. Peter laughed and nodded. "Thing's are always complicated with Cate, aren't they?"
"Eh, I mean I think it's more both of us and just trying to find the right path for us both..." Peter explained.
"Right, well I think that's why she needs you. Right? To help make her choices clear?" Harry asked sternly.
Peter cleared his throat and the bell dinged, opening the elevator door's.
"It was good to see you again, Harry." Peter said avoiding Harry's last stamens knowing what he'd asked of Cate.
"Yeah, it's always a pleasure, Peter." Harry said quietly as he walked away.
