Things Always Get Better Before They Get Worse

Over the next few months, I began to see Mystic Falls as home. Kai and Kol were both living with me. Though at first Kai kinda scared me, the two of us, had actually grown quite close, almost like me and Stiles. But, me and Kai had some benefits...only at first though. We decided we worked better as friends.

Plus for some reason I couldn't quite figure out why, it made Kol mad. Me and him started to get close. But, then he distanced himself, I still couldn't figure out why. I didn't want another Sam situation, so I didn't question it.

Damon had apologized for trying to kill me, and I actually considered him and his brother Stefan friends. I'd met the rest of the Mikaelson's. Despite their history, they were nice people in my opinion. Klaus usually stayed here a lot, while Rebekah and Elijah went back and forth.

For the first time in my life, I felt like my own person. I wasn't expected to be a hunter, like I was when I was with the Winchesters or with the Argents. I could have my own opinion, and think for myself. And truth be told, I was even more ashamed of being a hunter. I'd killed vampires, and knowing these people. I regretted it.

Me and Kai were watching Netflix on the couch, when Klaus walked in. Kol  looked up from whatever he was doing, and rolled his eyes at his brothers sudden arrival.

"Brother." Kol smirked.

Klaus smirked in return. "Kol, a word please?" Klaus asked. Kol rolled his eyes and him and Klaus stepped into Kol's room.

"How's Abi?" Klaus asked sliding his hands into his coat pocket. Kol crossed his arms.

"She's fine Nik. I've been making sure she's safe. I'm staying with her, every day. And I'm always with her when she's out. But you know, she's quite strong. She knows how to handle things. I'm not sure she needs anyone." Kol replied with a small smile.

Klaus cocked his head at his younger brother. "Hm, well the Kol I know, would've left her alone by now. What's changed little brother?" Klaus asked smirking widely.

Kol rolled his eyes. "Kol, you wouldn't happen to have feelings for her, would you?" Klaus asked.

"Nik, what does it matter to you?"

Was Kol's response. Klaus sighed. "Brother, do something about it. Don't hide it, you'll still be able to keep her safe. Just, don't make her feel alone. She has enough of that in her life. But hurt her, and you're daggered again. Understand?"

Kol rolled his eyes and nodded before walking back out.

Klaus waved at me before walking out to leave. Kai was fast asleep. So, now it was just me and Kol.

"Absinthe?" Kol asked.

He was the only person I liked calling me that, it was different when he said it. I'm not exactly sure why, but I just loved the way it sounded when he said it.

I stood up and covered Kai with a blanket before turning my attention to Kol.

"Yes Kol?"

There was a pause, like he was going to say something, but he couldn't figure out how. Instead he just walked close to me and crashed his lips into mine, as he cupped my face.

His kiss was passionate, I kissed him back and rested my hand on his chest. Finally, we pulled away for air. I smiled widely at him.

"What was that for?" I asked biting my lip.

He shrugged. "Darling, I didn't plan on..falling for you. But, now that I have..I wouldn't change a thing. I tried to distance myself from you, because I thought that given everything you've been through, you weren't exactly looking for a relationship. Plus..I was scared that I might hurt you. And I really didn't want that."

I sighed and smiled softly.

"Kol, maybe I wasn't looking for a relationship. But, that doesn't mean I'd have a problem with starting one with you. Derek made his choice, Sam made his. I don't care about that anymore."

Not entirely true, I did care. More about Derek than Sam at this point. Derek didn't exactly leave me, I left him. And I still really miss him, he was one of my best friends before we started dating after all.

But, all Sam did was lead me on.

Kol..taught me how to be a new person though. He was apart of a life I never knew I needed until I had it. That's why, I fell for him just as much as he'd fallen for me. With him, I believed things could be different, and that despite the odds, maybe we'd actually make it.

"And..you could never hurt me. I know you."

He smiled and kissed me again, before carrying me to his room, where I was for the rest of the night.

I'd left my phone on the couch, and I had it on silent, for when me and Kai were watching Netflix.

So I didn't get any of the thousands of calls and texts Dean was sending me.

"Sammy! Come on, we're going to Mystic Falls. Now!" Dean yelled. Sam looked up from his research.

"What? Why?!" He asked as he stood up and got a jacket.

Dean grabbed his keys. "Abi's not answering her phone, and she's been there for way too long. Something isn't right."

Sam nodded and the two of them got in the impala, and drove to Mystic Falls.

It was morning by the time they'd gotten there. I heard a knock on the door and threw some clothes on to answer it, Kol was still sound asleep. And, I heard the shower running so I assumed Kai was taking one.

I assumed it'd be Damon or Stefan at the door, but when I opened it, I was surprised to see my old friends Sam and Dean.

"What are the two of you doing here?" I asked, a bit worried about what the two of them were gonna think about my Mystic Falls life.

Just then, Kol came out of his bedroom and Kai came out of the bathroom.

Kai chuckled and put a hand on Kol's bare shoulder since he wasn't wearing a shirt. "You know, it's really hard to sleep when I have to listen to the two of you having sex all night. But it's about time! I was wondering when the two of you were gonna do it!"

"Kai!" I yelled hoping he'd shut up. Him and Kol looked at me and the door way. Kai laughed awkwardly.

"Oh..I didn't realize we had company, come in!" He smiled.

Dean and Sam walked in, and Kai tilted his head at me. "And..who are they?" I sighed.

"This is Dean and Sam..."

Kai's eyes widened. "Oh! Wow. So which one is Sam? You know the d*ck that's lead you on, twice now?" He asked crossing his arms. Sam cleared his throat, before awkwardly raising his hand and quickly putting it back down.

Kai rolled his eyes. "Mhm. Figured as much." Then he turned to Dean. "So that makes you Dean, the brother Abi actually did sleep with?"

Sam turned to look at Dean, with a shocked expression.

"What?! You slept together?!"

Sam exclaimed. "Oh wait, he didn't know? Oops.." Kai chuckled. Dean cleared his throat and looked at the ground.

Sam turned to me and shook his head. "I..I can't believe you slept with Dean."

Kai chuckled. "Dude, why do you even care?"

Kol rolled his eyes. "Well, it doesn't matter, because she's sleeping with me now. So.." He said before Sam could reply to Kai.

Kai shrugged. "Well, as long as we're bragging, she slept with me a few times, back when we were friends with benefits. But, yeah that's over. She's with Kol now so..yeah!" Kai said grinning widely.

Dean and Sam looked at me with judging stares. "Is this what you've been doing here? Sleeping with random douchebags and moving in with them?" Dean asked

Kai scoffed and opened a soda. "Probably shouldn't say that about a witch and an original vampire..just saying."

Dean's eyes widened. "One of them's a vampire?! Are you kidding me Abi? What would Bobby say about this?!" Dean exclaimed. Before I could answer, Kol did.

"Excuse me..but Bobby, would be fine with this. He'd be perfectly fine with me." He stated getting close to Dean.

Dean got in his face. "And what the h*ll would you know about Bobby?" Kol took the picture out of his pocket, still having it from when he showed me, and slammed it into Dean's chest.

When Dean saw it, he looked very confused. Kol smirked.

"What's wrong Dean? Didn't know that your friend Bobby helped out my family? Aw, isn't that rough? You see, my family, the Mikaelson's, and Bobby, were friends, and not only do I know that he asked us to look after Absinthe, but I also know that he'd be furious at you for showing up out of nowhere and trying to make her feel bad for being happy."

Dean tried to punch Kol, but Kol caught his fist, he chuckled and shook his head. "Oh, no. None of that." Kol said before turning his attention to me.

"Come find me when you deal with these two." He said before walking to his room.

"Why weren't you answering your phone Abi?" Dean asked. Kai chuckled. "Well, one, it was on silent, two, her and Kol were doing it! Gosh, didn't you hear me before?" I shot Kai a dirty look to shut him up.

He cleared his throat. "Right. Sorry. But, here's your phone. You left it on the couch.

When he handed it to me, I immediately turned the sound back on. Dean rolled his eyes. "Abi, you're coming home with us." I shook my head. "No. I'm not."

"Excuse me? Yeah you are! You're a hunter. You have a job to do!" I shook my head again.

"No, Dean. I'm not a hunter anymore. I'm ashamed of it, and I'm leaving it in the past. I'm staying here with Kol, Kai, and my other friends."

Dean looked confused and annoyed. But before he could say anything else, my phone rang, since I wanted out of this conversation, I went outside to take it.

"So..hey! I'm Kai..." Kai said trying to break the silence.

I didn't recognize the number, but I answered it anyway.

"Hello?" Said a familiar voice. My eyes widened when I realized who it was.

"Derek..?"
