New Friends and New Beginnings

I drove to Mystic Falls, it was a long day, when I got there I saw a bar, called The Mystic Grill.

I was starving and needed a drink. So I went inside, hoping to clear my head. As soon as I sat down a man sat next to me at my table. I raised an eyebrow at him. Not one minute in this town and already something suspicious. Either that, or he was just some guy looking for a hookup. I'll admit though, he was very attractive.

"Can I help you?" I asked with a slight chuckle.

He smirked at me. He had an adorable face, but something told me there was something different about him. Like a dark side maybe?

"Oh, I was just wondering how someone like you could be eating alone? My name's Kai by the way." He winked. I smiled at him.

"Well, Kai. My name's Absinthe. But my friends call me Abi. You shouldn't even be talking to me." I teased. He looked a little surprised.

"Woah, a bit of a bite I see." He laughed.

I chuckled. "You should know. You might not wanna talk to me. I may seem kinda crazy to you..I'm only in Mystic Falls to find vampires." I said smirking. His smirk grew wider.

"What about witches?"

He said before making a flame appear in his hand. It made me jump at first.

He chuckled. "Calm down Abi, I'm not gonna hurt you! And even if I tried, you're a hunter. Right?  You can handle me right?"

I sat a gun on the table and crossed my arms smirking at him.

"Just so we're clear Kai."

He threw up his hands in defense, and I put my gun away, I didn't want anyone seeing it and asking questions, though I had a right to carry it, I was a cop after all.

"Well..I'm not actually a witch..I can only siphon magic."

He saw my confused expression and brought it upon himself to explain, not only that, but basically his life story. More of it than I needed to know actually.

He was very nonchalant about it, he even ordered for me and him while he was talking about it. Kinda laughable, but his backstory wasn't.

"Why are you telling me all this? Isn't it kinda personal? And why would you admit that you've murdered people, to not only a hunter, but a cop?"

He shrugged. "Well, for starters, I didn't know you were a cop. But, I've changed. And telling people all this stuff, makes them trust me more in my opinion." He said taking another bite of food.

I couldn't help but laugh. I barely knew Kai, and he may have a very dark and evil past. But, he was sarcastic and awkward. He reminded me a lot of..Stiles.

"I'll take it by your laugh that you're gonna take my word for it?" He asked with a smirk.

I smiled. "Don't make me regret it witch boy." He smirked and cocked his head.

"What about you Abi? What's your story? It's only fair, considering I gave you mine."

I don't know, if it's because of the alcohol I was drinking, or because he reminded me of Stiles, or because maybe I actually kinda trusted him. But I shrugged, and told him everything.

It felt good being able to talk about my messed up family drama, and my even more messed up love life. I'd never really talked about it with anyone.

"Wow. That's rough. Sam sounds like a b*tch. I don't blame you for sleeping with his brother. But sounds like that Derek guy was your best option. You know, until he stopped talking to you." Kai teased. I chuckled.

"Yeah maybe so."

The bar was pretty much empty, besides me and Kai, and the bartender, who wasn't paying attention to anything going on.

But then a raven haired man came inside, his eyes were so blue, it was like he was looking right through me. Him and Kai saw each other, the man smiled widely, but Kai rolled his eyes.

"Great."

He mumbled under his breath. The man walked over, but didn't take a seat.

"Kai Parker..what did I tell you about strangers?" The man said sarcastically. Kai rolled his eyes, and his expression dropped, he looked angry, concerned, and annoyed all at once.

"Damon, stop. She's a friend. Her name's Abi." Kai explained. Damon rolled his eyes and shook his head.

"Not likely. You don't have friends. Now, what did I tell you about strangers Kai?" Damon asked again.

Kai shrugged. "Um, I have no freaking idea what you're talking about Damon.." Damon's smirk grew wider.

"Strangers, are food. Not friends."

Damon said before using super human speed to get behind me, his fangs coming out. Kai jumped up out of his chair, as Damon grabbed a hold of my neck his grip way to tight to get free, his teeth inches away from my skin.

"Damon! Stop!" Kai shouted.

The bartender still wasn't doing anything, probably under compulsion. a vampire trait I'd only heard about, I didn't know if it was true, but I still wore vervain all the time. Now, I wished I'd ingested it. That way Damon, wouldn't be able to drain my blood.

Damon rolled his eyes and was about to tear into my flesh whenever someone sped in and grabbed Damon's head and slammed in on the table, knocking Damon out, and letting me go.

The man, like most of the people I'd met tonight, I didn't recognize. He sighed and kicked Damon's body out of the way and smiled at me. Holding out his hand to shake.

"Nice to meet you darling. Kol Mikaelson."
