Chapter 29
"And then, he said I wouldn't be able to fight!" I scoffed.
"Dylan told me the exact same thing!" Sarah exclaimed.
"I always thought Dylan was a little dumb but ever since he started hanging out with Sam, he's been a complete idiot!"
A week has passed since Sam and I had the talk and tomorrow is the day of the battle.
Sarah and I are sitting in my room, well what used to be Hunter's room, talking about the war.
We both really wanted to fight, though we couldn't. Sarah's parents and Dylan had banned her from fighting and Sam and Hunter had banned me.
I haven't been talking with Sam or Hunter since they both had told me I wasn't allowed to fight. Hunter has been sleeping in the guest room and I couldn't sleep ever since, it's like I got attached to our cuddles every night that without it, I haven't been able to sleep properly.
"This is so unfair and sexist. I bet that no other mater girl in the pack is fighting." Sarah exclaimed.
"Why should we spend our time worrying about them when we could just go out with them and fight with them ourselves? What if they were in our position, us going out to fight while they stay here, worrying if we're gonna come back home?"
"Preach!"
"Are you talking to Dylan?"
"Nope. Are you talking to Hunter?"
"Nope, and I don't regret it."
"Neither do I."
We sat there in silence, not one of us saying a word. Not until Sarah whispered, "I miss him though,"
"I miss Hunter too."
"I should probably get going, it's getting late and I promised mom that I'd be home early so we'd be able to eat dinner together. Do you want to join?"
"No thanks, I'm not in the mood to eat right now."
"Alright," Sarah paused as she got off the bed and headed towards the door, "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye Sarah."
"Bye Emma," She waved before closing the door.
Like that, the room was silent. I sighed and stared ya the wall, not knowing what to do. Usually, I'd be talking with Hunter or going over to Sam's or maybe even hanging out with Dylan but I can't.
I know I should at least spend time with them since it's the last day before the battle tomorrow.
The battle starts at sunrise, everyone has to say their goodbyes at least five minutes before the warriors leave.
I sighed and sat up straight. I decided that I was going to spend the rest of the night in the library. As I was about to open the door to the library, I heard a yell before the sound of books falling to the ground.
I quickly opened the door to find Liam buried in a pile of books.
"Liam, what are you doing?" I asked worriedly as I helped him up.
"I was trying to grab that book from the top shelf but looks like I failed," He said in a joking manner.
However, I was not in the mood and began picking up the books on the floor, putting them back in their shelves.
"Here let me help," said Liam.
When we were finally finished, I asked Liam, "What are you doing in the library?"
"I wanted to read books about vampires, for the battle tomorrow."
"You're looking in the wrong shelf, it's the one to the left."
"Then what are these books about?" Liam asked as he grabbed a book from the shelf.
"Elves," He said before placing the book back on the shelf.
"Liam, are you going to fight in the battle tomorrow?" I asked worriedly.
"No, Jack and Darrius won't let me though." He sighed.
"And you're okay with that?" I asked.
"Of course not," He said quickly. He then sighed and looked at his fingers before continuing, "but I understand why I can't fight, I haven't even shifted yet."
"What I don't understand is why Hunter and Sam aren't letting me fight, I'm practically a white wolf for goddess's sake. If I don't fight, then what's the point of being a white wolf?"
"Sam and Hunter aren't letting you fight?" He asked in surprise.
"Yes, and it's so frustrating because that, that vampire has also killed my parents and destroyed my pack and now, I've been told I can't fight in the battle to kill him."
I sighed and rubbed my head before continuing, "I'm leaving Liam, I came in here to read but I guess I'm too tired for anything."
"The books about vampires are to the left." I pointed out before I left.
"Thanks," he called out, "Get some rest, Emma!"
"Okay," I said before closing the door.
I yawned and made my way back to my room. As soon as I had touched the bed, I was out like a light.
————-
I woke up to the sound of a bell ringing.
It's sunrise
I yawned and got out of bed, well tried to. I turned to my right side to find Hunter sleeping next to me, his arms wrapped around my waist.
At that moment, memories of when we first met came flooding back and I couldn't help but stay in bed, in our current position.
After the second bell, I could feel Hunter shifting and I could tell he was awake.
He sighed and sat up straight, before turning to me who was pretending to sleep. He sighed and kissed my forehead before getting up and leaving the room.
A few minutes after he left, I decided on leaving the room, to see how he was.
As I walked downstairs, I found Dylan, Sam and John sitting in the couches.
I walked past them, towards the kitchen when Dylan called out my name.
"Emma, you can't be mad at us."
"I'm not mad at you Dylan."
"Wait, really?"
"I just feel betrayed, I mean, we basically grew up together, had the exact same training and we both lived as rouges for five years and you're telling me that you also voted on me not fighting?"
"Emma, I—"
"Let me guess, I don't want you to get hurt," I mocked, "Do you think I want any of you to get hurt?" I yelled.
"Do you think it's easy to sit around, waiting for you guys to show up, not knowing if one of you had died? Do you think it's easy to read a book when all you're thinking about is if they all survived or if one of them died?"
"Do you think I could live with the guilt knowing I could've gone out there, fought and maybe, just maybe, you wouldn't have died?"
"But no, instead, you guys have chosen the easy way and decided to go out and fight while I stay here, feeling anxious!"
After I was done with my speech, I raced up to my room and slammed the door shut.
After a few minutes, as I was laying on my bed, I heard a knock on the door.
"Who is it!"
"John!"
"Come in and close the door behind you!"
I heard the door creak open before closing and I felt the bed shift.
"So I'm guessing you're mad about you not fighting, huh?"
"Too obvious?" I said sarcastically before letting out a huge sigh.
"I just don't get why they won't let me fight with them. I'm a white wolf and I've been training all my life!" I exclaimed.
"If it makes you feel any better," John continued, "I wanted for you to fight with us."
"Thanks, John, you're probably the only guy who wanted me to fight."
"There were many others. Some wanted their Luna to fight alongside them, some wanted their Luna protected. Most of the mated males voted for you to not fight."
I smiled at the thought and thanked John.
"I have to go say goodbye to Lisa, I miss her already."
"John," I called out as soon as his hand was on the handle, "Be safe out there alright?"
"Of course."
He winked and closed the door on me.
Not a second later, a knock was heard. Thinking it was John, I told him to come in and was surprised to find Dylan.
I instantly turned around, ignoring his guilty face and said, "Get out Dylan!"
"Emma, we need to talk!"
"You want to talk," I yelled as I turned around to face him, "let's talk. Let's start with the fact that you betrayed me. We grew up together, basically had the same training all of our lives, we trained together, we lived as rouges for FIVE YEARS together and you watched me shift into a white wolf, A WHITE WOLF!"
"Emma, I just don't want you to get hurt. If you stay here, it would have made things much easier."
"For you? What about me? Do you think staying here is easy? I'd have to spend hours wondering if everyone I love is going to make it out alive. Do you know how that feels, to worry over something you have no control over!"
"Whatever, just get out Dylan."
He let out a sigh and trudged towards the door. As he was about to close the door, he popped his head back in and said, "You know I love you, Emma."
Seconds later, just as he was about to close the door, I muttered in a low voice, "I love you too."
A knock was heard on the door and I could tell it was Sam, after having both John and Dylan come in.
After hearing no response, Sam entered the room to find me staring at him. He flinched and closed the door behind him before walking up towards me. He sat on the edge of the bed, his face avoiding eye contact as he spoke,
"Emma, before you say anything, I just want to let you know a few things," he began, "I know you're mad and you should be, I just don't want you to get hurt. As your older brother, I have to protect you. I failed the last couple of years so I'm making it up now. You probably hate me now and you should but whatever you say can't change my mind, you are not fighting with us today."
"I'm not going to fight with you Sam, I'm tired of fighting, I'm tired of ignoring you. It's true, I am mad at you, but I can't hate you. You are my brother and I can see where you are coming from," I began, "but don't think I forgive you and don't think I'm not mad at you. When the war is over, I'll ignore you, scream at you, fight with you but Incase you don't make it back, I love you."
"I love you too Emma."
Like that, he kissed my forehead before leaving the bed and walked towards the door. As he was about to close the door, he popped his head back in and said, "Do me a favour and take care of Amy for me, she's been moody lately," before closing the door.
I sighed and laid on the bed, thinking about everything. What seems like minutes pass and suddenly, a knock was heard.
"Come in!"
Who enters wasn't who I expected, it wasn't Sam, or Dylan or even John, it was Hunter.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I came to say goodbye, we're leaving in a few minutes."
"Look, Emma, I know you're mad, and you should be, but please, just for a few minutes, can't you forget everything?" He asked.
I sighed and nodded my head and gestured him to come on the bed. It's true, I am furious with him, yet I don't want my last moments with my mate something I would regret. What if he actually doesn't make it back?
As soon as he was close enough, he pulled me in for a tight hug.
"I'm sorry," he began, "I know I'm probably making you madder but I need this."
I sat there shocked before unintentionally, my arms began wrapping themselves around his waist.
"Me too."
