Chapter 20
A few weeks passed since Darrius was forced to leave.
Now, Darrius was hiding out, thinking of ways to get wolves to join his side and throw out Darren as the alpha. Then he'd reclaim his title and his mate.
Though, for that plan, he required wolves to fight by his side.
He didn't plan to hurt his pack, they haven't done anything wrong. He just needed reinforcement for the show. He couldn't enter the pack grounds, but the wolves could.
Suddenly, he stood up, his senses heightened. He growled as he heard the stepping of branches around him. He looked up to find himself surrounded by a pack of wolves.
The wolves began taking a few steps forward causing Darrius to take a few steps back. This went on until Darrius's behind hit a rock, making him fully surrounded.
Just as he thought they were gonna attack, all the wolves moved so that they were forming two separate lines with a space between each line.
In the middle of the line walked a tall man, who held emotionless eyes. He stared down at Darrius, who stood on his ground defensively, ready for any surprise attack.
"Shift if you mean no harm. If you choose to stay in your wolf form, we will have no choice but to attack."
Darrius turned his head to look at the other wolves before shifting back to his human form. He was handed a pair of clothes in which he thanked the person before changing on the spot.
"Let's talk in my tent, shall we?"
Darrius looked around at the wolves surrounding them and realized he didn't have a choice. He followed the strange man as the wolves trodded behind them, leaving him no way to escape.
Before entering his tent, the man gave his wolves a signal. The wolves nodded their heads before pushing Darrius into the tent causing him to stumble.
The tall man sat on the ground, a small table in front of him, as he poured some water into a cup. Darrius sat down in front of him, thinking it was the right thing to do. He handed Darrius the cup, which he gratefully took before pouring his own.
"So tell me rouge, what are you doing here?"
"It's a long story."
"That shouldn't be a problem. You are on my land, therefore, you must tell me your reason. You have been here for a while now."
"This is rouge territory, meaning for every rouge." Darrius implied, feeling a little confused.
The young man looked bored as he took a sip of his cup before placing it down on the table.
"Yes, but me and my pack sort-of... chased the other rouges away."
"Now, enough of this chit-chat," The man said firmly as he looked Darrius in the eyes, "What is your name?"
"Darrius."
"My name is Jack." He stated as he eyed Darrius carefully, "Now, why are you on my territory Darrius."
"I've got nowhere else to go."
"How come, you're an alpha aren't you?"
Darrius faced the ground, tears welling up in his eyes, "Not anymore."
"How come?"
"My brother, well, ex-brother now."
"Mind telling me the story?"
"It started a few weeks ago...
------
"That's how I ended up here." Darrius sighed as he had just finished telling Jack what had happened these past couples of weeks.
"Wow, your brother sounds like a jerk."
"Tell me about it, which is why he's gonna pay," Darrius said angrily, his hand forming a fist.
"What do you have in mind?"
"Well, I was thinking of getting my own pack, and then showing up to my former pack. My own pack members might be able to get it while I can't."
"I see, so you're planning on attacking your old pack?"
"No, I'm planning on overthrowing Darren. The pack members have nothing to do with it, I just need to overthrow him."
"And then what? What are you going to do to him if you do overthrow him?"
"I was planning on kicking him out of the pack, or keeping him in the cells," Darrius said thoughtfully, "I still haven't picked which one."
"I'm surprised murdering him is not in one of your options."
"It has been on my mind most of the time. Sometimes, I even plan on how to murder him. But then my mind goes back to my parents, what would they think if they found out their son had been killed by his own twin."
Darrius felt a hand on his shoulder and he looked up to see Jack smiling, "We got your back Darrius."
"Wait, what?"
"You said you needed a pack to help overthrow your brother, we'll help you."
"Wait, really?" Darrius said excitedly.
"Yep."
"Thank you," Darrius said as he hugged Jack tightly, welling up in his eyes.
"It's no problem, no problem indeed," Jack said as he patted Darrius's back.
Darrius suddenly pulled away from the hug and looked Jack straight in the eye. He then asked, "What do you want in return?"
"What?"
"You're helping me with my pack. What do you want in return?"
"Oh nothing... well, there is one thing I need help with."
"What is it?"
"I know I said my pack and I will help you, but we aren't that much. We barely have a dozen wolves."
"I don't get it."
"I need help convincing other rouges to join my pack, so will you help me?"
"Yes."
------
And so, the next few years were spent with Darrius and Jack exploring new rouge territories, trying to get as many rouges to join as possible.
At the beginning of his search, he had found out that his Pearl had given birth to a baby boy, and with some help, he had found out it was his child.
He was overjoyed at the fact that Pearl had given birth to his child, and that made him work harder so he could go home, and see his mate and his child.
However, these past few years, Darrius hadn't been shifting into his wolf regularly. Whenever he did, his wolf would always run towards the Midnight Pack, and it would take a lot of men to restrain him.
"Jack! Jack!"
Darrius had gotten close to Jack in the past couple of years. The two men have become best friends during their first year of meeting.
"What do you want Darrius?"
"We did it! After fourteen years, we finally have enough rouges!"
"Wait, really?"
"Yep."
Getting rouges to join a pack was not an easy task. Rouges were a bit -a lot- stubborn. They wouldn't join a pack for no reason at all. You either had to bribe them or find something they wanted.
And after fourteen years, they have gotten enough rouges to overthrow Darren.
"Alright, time to start part one of the plan."
"Kyle! Kent! Ken!"
Three men appeared in front of Jack, all looking ready for battle.
"Go check on the Midnight Pack, report what you find and if anyone spots you, you know what to do."
The three men nodded before shifting off to their wolves and running towards the Midnight Pack.
"Jack? You never told me your plan?"
Jack face-palmed himself before nodding towards Darrius.
"So basically, we are going to attack Darren's pack and capture all of his warriors. We'll make them our warriors, if not kill them."
"The women of the pack will not be attacked unless they try to harm us. We shall keep them as they'll make us fine warriors in the future. Besides, I can't hit a girl."
"Wait, what?"
"Dude, I promised my mom."
"What? Not that, we agreed that my pack will not be harmed, that we'll just be overthrowing Darren so I can take my place as alpha."
"You see, you agreed to that. I've been thinking, what if people still want Darren to be their alpha? What if after you take over, some of your pack members are secretly messaging Darren? You never know what will happen Darrius, that's why it's better to just capture them."
"No Jack, that's insane. Those people are my family, I've grown up with them all of my childhood, they wouldn't betray me."
"Darren."
"Exactly, Darren betrayed me, which is the reason he's going to pay."
"Look Darrius," Jack said as he let out a sigh, "I was once like you, I was naive and trusted people too much. Don't make the same mistake as I did."
"Jack, I---
"Alpha, we have a problem."
Glad that the conversation had changed, Jack nodded his head to one of his soldiers, indicating for him to continue.
"Kyle, Kent and Ken were murdered."
"What! By who!?" Jack yelled angrily.
"Some kid, apparently from our spies, she shifted early."
Jack angrily growled before shifting and running off to the woods. Just as Darrius was about to go after him, the soldier had stopped him, telling him it was too dangerous, as they all knew how Jack was when he was angry.
Darrius huffed, knowing he could control Jack but didn't bother to. He knew he needed to be alone. He only hoped that Jack would listen to what he had to say tomorrow.
Surprisingly, the next day, Jack acted as if nothing happened. He avoided Darrius for a while but later on, acted as if they hadn't just had a big argument yesterday. And every time Darrius tried to bring it up, Jack would change the subject.
"That's enough Jack!" Darrius yelled as he slammed his hand on the table Jack was currently writing on.
"You've been avoiding this conversation for too long. We are not going to be attacking my pack alright!"
"Okay."
"No, don't tell me I'm being too naive---Okay?"
Darrius looked at Jack surprisingly, as Jack was never one to agree with someone else. He either stuck to his ideas or claimed other ideas as his own.
"It's your future packman, I'm just trying to look out for you."
Darrius smiled at his best friend before holding out his pinkie towards him, making Jack eye him curiously.
"Pinkie promise?"
"I am not doing a pinkie promise," Jack said emotionlessly as he looked Darrius in the eye.
"Why not?" Darrius whined as he held his pinkie towards Jack's hand.
"Because I'm a guy!"
"Idiot!"
"Stupid!"
"Baka!"
"Oh, it's on!"
And like that, the fight had started.
