Chapter 73

Rain slammed against the window, droplets of water dripped, thunder shattered the sky and I rose up awake at the terrifying sounds of it all. The weather was colder here, and it twisted my nerves and tightened my throat. I feared being sick after traveling for a long while and getting barely any sleep.

Claudia, Alpha Grayson's mate had woken us both up at ten in the morning, only five hours after I had arrived here.

As promised, Wayne went out to get a pregnancy test for me while I stayed at the house, having breakfast with two strangers that were confirmed to be a threat to me. I kept a close eye on both of them and silently prayed that neither of them would be informed about my mother's death or else the entire plan was going to be destroyed.

"So, when did you two meet each other?" I asked while slowly pushing aside the breakfast. I wasn't able to eat anything and food made me more nauseous. Though drinking blood was helpful and it kept nausea at bay for the time being.

Grayson chuckled before his head turned to his mate. He seemed to be inching his thirties whilst his mate was a lot more younger than him. I had interpreted an odd relationship between them but I couldn't tell why.

"Just two years ago..." Grayson replied with an unhinged look in his eyes. His voice was deep but throaty. "Claudia was being trained at the time and during one of the trainings, I saw her. I immediately knew she was for me." His hand stretched as he placed it over hers.

"Oh," I quickly changed the subject. "I heard about your trainings. People talk about it all the time. You have a great pack, Grayson."

I wanted to mention my mother, make them uncomfortable, and see through their lies but then I'd be targeted so I tucked away all the questions I had about my mother.

"Thank you. I aim to train my wolves day and night. An animal should be always prepared for anything." The way he worded that was odd, suspicious.

Was he overshadowing something or was I reading too much in between the lines?

"Yes. Of course." I gave him a stiff smile. "Wayne and I had prepared a proposal for you, hoping it would set peace between our packs since in numbers there is strength." I dropped whatever came to my head and whatever was on topic.

In front of their eyes, we were here to form a treaty between our packs and help each other in a way.

"Indeed." Grayson nodded his head before wiping his mouth and standing up. His eyes darkened and something flashed on his face before he placed his hand over his mate's shoulder, "I'm going to my office for a bit and then we can continue with the day. Please show Clara around and see if she needs anything." He told her while glancing a look at me.

I pushed my shoulders back over my seat while my face tightened with tension. Why leave so suddenly? Did he just get informed about my mother? No. It couldn't happen now. We were nowhere close to anything and Wayne was still outside.

Grayson looked over at me once more before he rushed out of the room. The servants appeared after a few minutes and began clearing the tables while Claudia attended to me.

"You must love being here." I mentioned with a grin over my face as she took me around the house once more, this time toward the garden outside.

"Of course. I was a peasant before Grayson turned me into a Queen." She laughed, throwing her head back but I didn't find any of it humorous but rather deeming. "You must feel that way too. After all, you were an Omega once."

My lips lined straight. Omega. The title was glued in my blood and even after everything, I could never change it. But for some reason, it didn't matter anymore. Not after everything I had been through.

I didn't give her a reply instead I kept walking alongside her in silence, watching the trees in the garden flutter with the strong winds and the sky altering colors, shifting into a warm blue as the storm passed away.

When I closed my eyes for a moment, I heard everything...from miles. I heard the birds chirping down the street when the sun had begun shining and the cars that were passing by. I could even hear the servants inside the kitchen washing the dishes and preparing for lunch.

Focusing harder, I attempted to hear Grayson, wondering if he was on a call with someone who was reporting him about my mother's death.

My eyes widened and I furrowed my brows together when I heard something completely different. A man...groaning...in pain. There was someone inside the house hurt, someone was getting hurt.

Claudia tilted her head and gawked at me, "Are you alright?" She asked.

"Yes." I responded, snapping out of my trance.

With her beside me, I could no longer hear the man who was in pain but it kept me on the edge. Was someone being beaten up here?

I reared back and placed a hand over my stomach before letting out a soft grumble from my throat. "I feel like I'm going to get sick again. Please, excuse me." There was no pause as I forced my way away from Claudia and back into the home.

For the next few seconds, I acted as if I was in pain and stumbled on the stairs back inside the house. The moment I was in, I moved my hand away from my stomach and rushed toward a hallway where I presumed the voice came from.

Fear built up my throat, tightening it. I barely took a breath while pacing across the hallway, hoping to reach the source of the voice. When trying to hear again, I could hear nothing except for the shuffling of papers and...someone walking.

My head collided against a man, my nose striking straight at his hard chest. I groaned in pain and wrapped my hand over my nose while moving away. "I'm so sorry," I whispered as my eyes burned with tears. "I didn't see you."

"Oh, no, I'm sorry." The man replied. "Are you okay?"

When I raised my head to meet his eyes, I found an aged man standing in front of me, breathing heavily. Concern spread over his face for me.

I moved my hand aside from my nose, forgetting the man while my gaze lowered to his neck where I found two punctured holes underneath his ears. Creases formed on my forehead. I became suddenly lost. What? How? My heart nearly jumped to my throat at the sight of the two wounds on his neck, wounds that resembled the ones I had given to those guards before.

"You—you seem to hurt? A—are you okay?" I stuttered while trying to catch my breath. I focused my gaze straight ahead into his neck where the wounds were. There were open wounds as if—as if someone had fed off him.

"Yes. Sorry again." He looked away from me and before I knew it, he was walking past me, hurriedly making his way out of the hallway and disappearing into the terrifying house of secrets.

I was trembling hard, my fingers were shaking while I forced myself to make sense of what I had seen.

There couldn't be another monster.

But there was...

It wasn't me or Wayne but someone else. Someone who was living in this house and feeding off an old man. Someone who shared the same strength as Wayne and I.
