3-Diner Memories
Avery's POV
Should I cut my hair?
It would make me look more like a school girl.
I held the scissors in my hand.
I held out a piece of my hair and snipped off a chunk of it.
I did this with all my hair until it was shoulder length.
After that was done I turned on the show and stepped in.
The hot water and side pressure ran down my back. I flicked the moment of contact but slowly got used to it.
The water ran down all of my cuts and bruises. All the dry blood was one down the drain.
I wash my hair with the strawberry shampoo that was in the bathroom along with the matching conditioner.
After I was done a stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around my body.
I pulled out my bag and grabbed a pair of leggings and a gray sweater with a white tank top underneath. I also let my hair air dry.
I loud growl came from my stomach.
I havent had anything to eat in days.
Apparently, I'm too weak to have food.
Quote provided by my so called dad.
Another growl came from my stomach.
It pretty much sounded like a mountain lion on a high.
Maybe I could find a cheap diner.
I grabbed some money and my converse and headed out the door.
As I walked I noticed there was no people on the street.
I felt stares on me as I looked around. People were watching me through their windows.
As soon as they saw me looking at them they closed their blinds shut.
Maybe this wasn't the best place to start a new life.
Too many stalkers.
I picked up my pace until I was met by an small diner.
It looked a little old and run down but still looked presentable.
I walked in. The only people that were there were a group of teenagers around 18 years old sitting in a booth.
An elderly woman came up to me. She looked like she was in her 50's.
"Well hello there, darling. It's nice to see a new face in my little old diner." She smiled with her southern accent. "Take a seat anywhere and I get back to you."
I smiled and nodded at her.
I took a booth far away from the teenagers. The last thing I need is being the center of attention.
The waitress came back to where I was sitting and handed me a menu.
I looked through it as the waitress took out her notepad and pen.
"I'll have pancakes with side of bacon. To go." It was still early in the morning so why not have breakfast?
She wrote my order on her notepad.
"I'll be right back with your order darling." She smiled before walking off into the back of the diner.
I stared out the window. All the streets were empty. It was all scary. Like some monster was going to pop out and kill everybody. It's always calm before the storm.
I heard someone take a seat in front of me.
It was a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Are you new in town?" She asks."I've never seen you here before."
"Yeah, I'm new I just moved here yesterday." I answered.
"Cool. I'm Melissa." She held out her hand for me to shake.
"Avery." I shook her hand.
A guy came over and sat next to Melissa.
"Hey Melissa. Who's your friend? Is she single?" He smirked while asking Melissa.
My eyes widened at his words as Melissa rolled her eyes at him.
"Don't scare her off Josh. She's new and I don't think she wants your non-existent manhood." She told the guy named Josh.
"Come on sis. At least I know I attract more girls than Ash." He glared at her.
"You can't talk about Ash like that!" She slapped his arm. "He'll get really mad at us! And you know what happens when he gets mad."
"He's not here." Josh pointed out.
Melissa rolled her eyes at him again.
"Whatever." She muttered.
"Way to show your cousin some love." Josh muttered as he rolled his eyes.
For some reason the name Ash got stuck in my head.
Another girl came over and made Josh move. "Scoot over fat ass."
"Lola!" Josh showed at the girl named Lola.
She ignored him and turned to me.
"Hi! I'm Lola." She stretched her hand out for me to take.
I took her hand. "I'm Avery."
"Nice to meet you." Lola smiled.
I nodded back at her. guess I'm not good with small talk.
Another guy came over with a half eaten chocolate cupcake in his hand.
"Why'd you guys move over here?" His voice was muffled due to the cupcake in his mouth.
"You have no class, Oliver." Josh shuddered in distugst.
"I can't help it. This cupcake taste like it was dipped in heaven sauce." Oliver smiled as he took another bite of his cupcake and took a seat next to me.
He looked at me confused. "Who's the human?"
"Well of course I'm human. What are you?" I snapped.
His face paled but he masked it over.
"Well aren't you little miss sunshine." Oliver mumbled as he focused his attention back to his cupcake.
"You are so much like dad." Melissa pointed out.
"Who do you think I got it from?" Oliver replied.
Melissa rolled her eyes.
"Didn't Aunt Artemis and Uncle Blake meet here?" Lola ask.
"Who?" I piped in.
"Our aunt and uncle." Josh answered. "They socially met in this diner. The first time they met, they were on business."
I nodded in understanding.
"I remember when she kicked his ass when he stole her gold coin." Oliver laughed while finishing off his cupcake.
They all laughed while I just sat that confused.
Maybe I could just leave.
"Avery?" A voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Yes?" I turned to Lola.
"Will you be going to school here?"
"Yeah I will." I nodded.
"Thats great! It's just a couple of streets down and maybe after we can show you around town." She chirped.
"Um... I'm not sure if I can but I'll think about it." I whispered.
Disappointment took over her face. "Well let me know if you change your mind."
I was abut to respond but the waitress came over and handed me my food in a to-go box.
I thanks and paid her before stepping out of the booth.
"Thanks for the talk guys but I need to get going." I said.
I didn't wait for a reply, I just walked out of the diner and started walk in around town.
I found the school and registered while eating pancakes.
After that I walked back to the motel.
Today was a long and confusing day.
