Avery's POV

"Are you ok?" Ash asked me.

I was sitting on his bed with my knees to my chest as Ash stepped out of the shower. In only a towel!

"Yeah, just thinking." I replied.

"About?" He asked as he went to the closet.

"Just about what I should say to the council." I admitted.

Ash spoke with the council yesterday. They said that they were coming over to the pack house later today.

"You brought this on yourself, you know." He pointed out.

"That doesn't help me."

"It wasn't supposed to." He smirked while stepping out of the closet without a shirt.

I glared at him.

"But I know how important this is to you so just say what you want to say." He continued.

"What?" I asked confused.

"Say what you think should happen to her."

"But you said that they would never go with it."

"Then say what the consequences might be if they don't go along with what you want."

"Interrogate much?" I raised an eyebrow.

He shrugged. "Guess I got it from my mom."

I let out a small laugh. Ash didn't bother slipping on a shirt. He climbed in bed next to me.

He pulled me into his chest and kissed my cheek.

"You know the council won't arrive for another 6 hours." He pointed out.

"What are you hinting at?" I asked suspiciously.

"I'm just saying we have some time before they arrive." He smiled.

"That doesn't tell me anything of what you're hinting at." I played dumb.

He scowled. "Let's have today all to ourselves."

"Oh that. I had no idea." I smirked as I kissed the corner of his lips.

He pinned my hands above my head and hovered above me in one shift movement.

"You are such a tease you know that right." He growled lowly.

"Do I know that?" I shrugged my shoulders. "You knows?"

He growled then kissed my lips forcefully.

I pulled away but he kept trailing kisses up and down my neck.

"Ash the door is open." I attempted to push him away.

He removed his face away from my neck at looked at the door that was wide open.

He crawled off me and pulled a shirt over his head.

"Get up. We're going for ice cream." He smiled.

"Why?" I asked while getting up from the bed and slipping on my shoes.

"Because we are having today all to ourselves." He wrapped his arms around me. "No rouges. No council. No Logan. Just us."

"You just won't give up will you?"

"Nope." He popped the 'p.'

I laughed as we walked out the door.

We drove in his car until we arrived at a small ice cream shop.

I was about to open the car door until Ash came and opened it for me.

"You don't have to open the door for me." I pointed out.

"But I want too." He smiled while closing the door.

We walked into the shop. There were a few adult there with their kids at the tables. But other than that there was no one there.

Ash grabbed my hand and entangled our fingers.

We walked up to the counter where a girl was chewing her gum loudly and typing on her phone.

She glanced up and placed her phone down.

"What can I get you?" She looked at Ash and eyed him up and down.

"What do you want?" Ash asked me.

"I'll take a rocky road."

"One rocky road and vanilla." Ash smiled at the girl.

"Coming right up." She smiled and winked at him.

"Hey can I ask you something?" I asked the girl.

"You just did." She sassed.

"Well  too bad I'm asking it any way. Do you go around flirting win other people's boyfriends?"

She froze up and said nothing.

"I'm holding his hand. And I'm pretty sure that's a clear sign that we're together."

She said nothing just glared

"Why don't you show a little dignity and get your own man to bang instead of hitting on other people's partners." I sassed.

She slapped our cups of ice cream on the counter.

"Have a nice day." She forced out.

I smirked knowing I had won.

I grabbed my ice cream and and exited the shop.

"Were you jealous?" Ash asked me once he had walked out with me.

"No." I lied.

"The why did you say those things to that girl?" A smirk played on his lips.

"Because someone need to put her in her place."

"You are jealous."

"You smiled at her after she eyed you up!"

He grabbed my waist and pulled me into a kiss.

"You have nothing to worry about. Hat life is behind me. Your my mate." He kissed my head.

I was about to respond until the loud ringing from his phone cut me off.

He picked it up and and answered.

"We'll be there soon." He hung up his phone.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"The council is here early."

My heart beat sped up and my palms got sweaty.

Was I really that nervous?

Of course I was.

If I don't play this right Mandy could die.

"Hey." Ash kissed my lips. "Don't worry. You'll be fine"

I nodded. "Let's go."

I got into the passenger seat of his car as he got into the drivers seat and drove off to the pack house.

I couldn't calm my nerves the whole ride.

We soon arrived at the pack house.

I couldn't back out now. Mandy and her mate are counting on me. Her pup deserves to grow up with a mother.

I got out of the car. Me and Ash walked to his office were the members of the council were waiting for us.

'Don't be nervous. You'll be fine.' Ash mind linked me as we entered his office.

'It's not me I'm worried about.'

There were at least 12 council members there. I thought they were staring at Ash but they kept their eyes trained on me.

Ash nudged we to speak.

"W-we are here to d-discuss the future of M-Mandy Rogers." I stuttered.

Great. I stuttered.

"Her future has already been determined." Someone spoke up. "She will be put to death after her pup I'd born."

"But you have not considered the consequences." I stopped stuttering.

"Yes we have." Another member spoke up.

"Clearly you haven't otherwise you would keep her alive. If she does then her mate will go into depression. And her pup will grow up without a mom."

"Lots of people have survived without their mates."

"Barley. Yes they have survived but they are not the same. Mandy's mage will not be able to handle her death and support a pup at the same time."

"Then what do you propose, Luna Avery?"

"Keep her alive and let her reunite wither mate."

"We'll discuss it then get back to you Luna Avery."

I nodded and exited to room.

Ash came out and pulled into his chest.

"You did good, Avy." He kissed my head.

"But was it enough?" I asked.

"I can't answer that. But no matter what happens you did your best.

"We have reached a decision about the future of Mandy Rogers." A council member spoke.

I bit my lip nervously and avoided eye contact with everybody.

"We have decided to put Mandy to death after her pup is born as originally planned." He finished.

I let out a breath that I was holding and nearly started crying.

I left the room and went to Ash's bedroom.

I threw myself on the bed and let the tears fall.

I failed.

Mandy's blood is on my hands.
