20-Long Night
Avery's POV
It has been a couple weeks since that note from Logan.
We haven't heard from him or he captured rogue at all.
And Mandy hasn't been released yet. The council hasn't decided what to do wit her yet.
I hope nothing bad happened to her. What if they make her and her baby a slave to werewolves!?
I've barley seen Melissa at all. She's always training or she's down in the basement interrogating the rogue.
What if he's just here to spy on us?
What if he rejected Melissa!?
What if Melissa rejected him!?
What if he's secretly mind linking Logan about us and where he is?
OK that last ones not true. They injected him with wolfsbane.
"Is everything OK with you?" Ash asked beside me.
We were on his bed cuddling and watching a movie.
I have been spending most nights in his bed since he refuses to leave me alone for too long.
"I'm fine. Just thinking." I answered.
"About?" He poked my cheek but I swatted his hand away as he smirk.
That stupid smirk.
"About Melissa and her mate."
He growled. "We don't know if he is her mate. She hasn't said anything."
"But haven't you noticed that she's been spending most of her time with him."
"Yeah, to interrogate him." He pointed out. "Do I need to remind you that he threw that brick through the window and he is working win Logan."
"Have you ever thought that maybe he had a good reason?" I raised an eye brow.
"Rogues don't have reasons. Hey kill for sport."
"Isn't that what your mom thought too before she met your dad?"
"That's different."
"How?" I asked.
"My mom was a huntress. It was her job to think those things."
"Maybe she didn't have a choice either."
"She did. She decided to follow my grandmother's footsteps and become a huntress. Logan betrayed her."
"Maybe the rogue is betraying Logan." I suggested.
"Exactly how?" He sighed.
"Maybe he's feeding Melissa information about Logan's plans."
"Then why isn't she telling us?"
"Maybe she's afraid of what will happen to her mate." I admitted.
He layed his head on the pillow. "We don't know if they're mates for sure."
"Maybe we could ask."
"What's it with you and all the maybe's?" He asked.
I shrugged. "What's it with you and all the mods swings?"
"I can't control that."
"Yes you can." I laid my head on his shoulder. "At least try to feel a different emotion besides, anger or annoyance."
He was about to answer until the dogs came in holding leashes in their snouts.
"Not now Junior." Ash groaned.
Nix put his leash down and barked.
Ash rolled his eyes. "And Nix."
Junior put his leash on the ground the jumped on the bed along with Nix.
They laid down in between me and Ash and curled up.
"You guys just separated me from my mate." Ash said to the dogs as they just wagged their tails.
"Why junior of all names?" I asked as I petted the dogs.
"Her original name was clumsy, when Uncle Xander thought she was a dude, but then my mom changed her name to Midnight Junior after the accident with my great grandparents. We just call her Junior now since its emotional for my mom."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't worry about it."
Junior stood up slightly and started to lick Ash's face as he tried to push her away.
I laughed at Ash as the dogs laid their snouts on my stomach and looked up at me with puppy dog eyes.
"Aw. I think I'll take them for a walk." I said to Ash.
The dogs shot up from the bed and grabbed their leashes in their snouts as they waited patiently for me.
I sat up from the bed but Ash pulled me down again.
"No." Ash spoke.
Nix whined and lowered his head as Junior growled at Ash and kept her head high.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because we haven't captured Logan. And there a horny rogues working for him." He growled.
"I'll be fine. I'll have the dogs with me."
"Doesn't matter. You need at least 10 guards win you at all times while I'm not around."
"10!? That is totally unfair! Three." I tried reasoning.
"10."
"Ash you can't do that."
"Yes I can. I'm not taking any chances with Logan. 10."
I rolled my eyes and got up from the bed. "Fine."
I grabbed he dogs leashes and and clipped then onto their collars.
I was about to walk out the door until two guards stopped me.
"Where are you going Luna." One asked me.
"Mike what did we talk about?" I put my hands on my hips.
He sighed and looked down at the floor. "To not call you Luna."
"That's right. It's Avery."
"Yes Avery. Now where are you going?" He asked again.
"I'm just going for a walk with the dogs." I shrugged.
"Alone?"
I nodded.
"Alpha is OK with this?" He questioned.
I nodded again.
"I'm going to ask him." He was about to mind link but I stopped him.
"I wouldn't do that he's asleep. You know how grumpy he gets when someone wakes him up in he middle of nappy time."
"You're right. Go ahead Luna."
I scowled at him.
"I'm mean Avery."
I smiled at him before walking towards the woods with the dogs.
After a while I decided to turn back until I heard the sound of a twig snapping.
My heart beat quickened.
I looked around and saw it was only Nix who stepped on a small branch. He started to walk again but Jen tripped over it.
I chuckled. "Silly puppy."
"He's kinda dumb. Why not just put him down." A voice said behind me.
A voice that terrified me.
"Logan." I whispered to myself as I turned around.
"Aw so nice you remember your father."
The dogs looked at him and began barking and growling as I dropped the leashes.
"Shut it mutts!" He growled back.
"Y-you are not my father." I spoke.
"But you wouldn't be here if it wasn't for me." He smirked.
I said nothing.
"Oh you don't remember all of it." He chuckled.
I stayed silent.
"I spy with my wittle eye a man in red." He spoke as if he was quoting something.
"The man on the road. Before the accident." A tear ran down my cheek.
"Guess what sweetie that red was blood. My blood." He smirked as he tried to reach for me but Nix bit his arm.
"Ahh!" Logan screamed out in pain before throwing Nix into a tree.
He whined as his back came in contact with the trunk.
I ran over to him and picked him up.
"Little son of a bitch!" Logan growled as he held his arm.
Junior growled as he tried to take a step closer.
Logan looked at her and chuckled. "Just like Midnight. Always had to be the brave one."
Junior snapped at him as he just laughed.
"Avy!" Ash's voice called out.
"That's my cue to leave." Logan smirked before disappearing into the woods.
"Avy!" Ash appeared as he hugged me not even minding Nix in my arms.
"Nix!" Artemis's voice called out.
She took him from my hands and examined him. "I need to get him to the pack doctor."
She left into the woods as junior followed close behind her.
Ash grabbed my arm and dragged me into the pack house.
He dragged me to his room and locked the door.
"I told you! I told you to take the guards. You said you would take them."
"Did I have my fingers crossed?" I shrugged. "Whoops."
"Don't use that tone with me!" He growled.
"Don't use that tone with me."
"I'm doing this because I love you!"
"I love you too but you can't keep me trapped here forever!"
"Avy you have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear those words but that's no excuse for what you did."
"You can't keep me here!"
"Why can't you understand I have to do this for your protection!" He groaned as he ran his hands down his face.
"Because Ash, I need to learn to protect myself! I don't need a babysitter!" I yelled.
He growled and raised his hand.
"Do it Ash. Hit me."
He growled and smashed his lips onto mine.
It's going to be a long night.
