Ash's POV

My paws thumped the ground as I desperately looked for my mate.

'She couldn't have gone far we just saw her!' James yelled.

I slowed my pace and tried to get a whiff of her scent.

Barley anything and not enough to track.

'I know but her scent got mixed up in all this nature.' I replied.

'We have to find her. What if she runs into a rogue!?'

I growled at him. "She won't."

Out of nowhere her scent hit my nose but I couldn't tell in which direction it was coming from.

Where are you Avy?

All of a sudden the scent got stronger. I followed the scent until I got a hint of water.

'She's near to lake!' James yelled out.

I ran faster towards the lake.

Avy was standing near the dock staring at the water.

I went behind a tree and out on some back up clothes I kept in some bushes.

I walked towards her but she didn't notice me. Her gaze was locked onto the water.

I grabbed her shoulders and turned her to face me but her head stayed focused on the water.

"Avy?" I said her name softly but she didn't even glance at me. "Avy? What's wrong?"

I let go of her shoulders. She began walking on the dock as I followed slowly behind her.

Once she got to the edge of the dock she got on her knees and stared down at the water.

"Avy."

She tore her gaze away form the water and stared at the lake.

"I know this place." She finally spoke.

Avery's POV

"I know this place." I spoke.

"What do you mean?" I heard Ash ask behind me.

I looked back down at the water at the edge of the dock.

I started to see my parents faces appear in the water. My real parents.

~Flashback~

I sat in my carseat playing win my stuffed animals mumbling stories about what they were doing to myself.

"Whatcha doing Pumpkin?" My daddy asked with a smile then turned his gave back on the road in front of you.

"Plawying with Cookie." I held out my stuffed puppy.

When he didn't take it I threw it at his head.

"Honey, you can't do that daddy is driving." My mommy scowled with a calm tone.

"Sowry mommy." I apologized.

She glance at me and smiled. "It's OK sweetie. Just don't do it again."

I giggled and smiled while nodding my head up and down frantically.

A few more minutes past by in complete and utter silence.

"How much longwer?" I whined. "I want to go campwing now."

"We are almost there Pumpkin. Just ten more minutes." My daddy reassured me.

"Okway." I pouted and crossed my arms over my chest.

"Cheer up Pumpkin." Daddy smiled at me in the rear view mirror. "Let's play a game."

"I spwy!" I suggestion with a wide grin on my chubby face.

Daddy chuckled at me then nodded his head.

"I'll go first." I glanced at the road in front of us until I figure caught my eye. "I spwy with my wittle eye a man in red!"

My parents looked at each other confused until there eyes landed on the man in the road.

Only he wasn't wearing red it was blood.

"Oh no!" My daddy screamed and slammed on the breaks.

He jerked the steering wheel just before it hit the man.

The car drove into the woods and my daddy looked like he was having trouble with the car.

My heart was racing and my parents looked like they were about to pass out.

The trees disappeared and sparkly blue water came into view along with a gross brown dock.

Daddy still couldn't control the car.

The car was driving onto the dock until it wasn't.

Everyone, including me, let out a scream as the car hit the water.

The water began filling up the car as my parents were trying so desperately to get there seat belts off.

My daddy began banging on the windows but he soon became sluggish as was my mom.

Looked around frantically looking for a way to escape. Black dots soon were appearing as my actions grew slow.

Eventually a stopped moving and my eyes were barely open.

I felt hands go around me as my eyes were fully closed.

All of a sudden my mouth filled with water. I spit it out and started coughing uncontrollably.

"Calm down girl." A voice said next to me as a hand tapped my back lightly. "You're safe now."

I looked at the guy and looked back at the water.

"My mommy and daddy did they--" he cut me off.

"No I'm sorry. I could only save you."

I looked back at him with tears filling my eyes.

He pulled me into a tight hug as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

"What's your name girl?" He asked as soon as I calmed down a bit.

"I'm Avery."

~Flashback over~

"Mom! Dad!" I yelled out as I reached in the water to grab them but as soon as my hands touched the water they disappeared.

"No! No! No!" I was about to jump into the water until a pair of arms went around my waist and held me back.

"Avy! No! Stop you can't go in there! There's no one there!" Ash's voice tried to calm me down but it wasn't working.

"I have to save them! I need to save them!" I struggled to get out of his grip.

Ash carried me back until he sat me down on the grass.

He cradled me on his lap. My face was wet from the tears. I started to sob and hiccup.

Ash whispered things into my ear and tried to calm me down.

"It's going to be OK baby. You're safe. You're with me. You're safe." He whispered in my ear.

I layed my head on his shoulder and let the tears fall. He kept his hand around my waist while the other was cupping my check.

"My parents drove into this lake and drowned. I was with them." I admitted to him as I kept crying.

Ash glanced at the lake then back at me.

"What happened Avy?" He asked softly.

"A man was in the middle of the road. My dad was driving and he lost control. He drove into a lake. He and mom drowned. I almost did until someone saved me."

"Who saved you?" He asked while placing a kiss on my forehead.

"My foster father." I admitted.

My eye lids soon began to grow heavy as all the energy from my body was drained.

"I'm here now Avy. Go to sleep." Ash cooed in my ear.

I let my eyelids fall as I was fretted my sleep.
