Epilogue
[Three years later]
"Come on Mark!" I yell, sprinting up the steps of Amanda's Foster Home for Children and others. Others being children like Mark and I.
"Slow down love!" You're going too fast!" Mark complains, causing me to laugh.
"I'm just excited, that's all!" I squeal, bursting through the doors. I was so excited because today Mark and I are going to adopt a kid considering we are both males and don't have a.... To have babies from. So we decided that we would adopt.
A cheerful, old lady greets us. "Hello! My name is Amanda! What can I do for you guys today?"
"My mate and I are here to see about adopting a child today." Mark says.
"Ah, wolves?" We both nod. "Follow me."
We followed the lady, Amanda, into a small room. She sat behind a desk while Mark and I sat in two available chairs in front of the desk.
"Alright," she says, looking at us. "Do you want a boy or girl?"
"We actually don't care what gender our baby is, because either way we will love he or she." Mark nods on agreement. Amanda frowns.
"Okay, how young?"
"Under three years."
"Have to be an alpha?"
"Yes."
"Are your pack mates-"
"Accepting? Yes," Mark says, interrupting her. Amanda asks us a couple of questions before abruptly standing up.
"Wait right here," she says hurrying away. Mark and I sat there for a couple of minutes, holding hands and not speaking. Finally she came back into the room holding a pink blanket. "I think she is a perfect match for you guys." I unlace my hand from Mark and gently take the baby from Amanda's outstretched arms, cradling her to my chest.
My heart melts as I stare back at those wide, baby blue eyes with red flecks sprinkled in the color, stare back at me. She was definitely an alpha. I smile, humming a small tune I remembered my mother once sang to me when I was little. I hear Mark chuckle as I pass her to him and he cradles her against his chest.
She raises a tiny hand out to Mark and he smiles gently, letting her grasp around finger. This moment was just too perfect.
"What's her name?" I ask, not taking my eyes off of Mark and the baby girl.
"She doesn't have a name. All I know is that she is almost seven months old and that someone left her to die on our porch steps. But she was a fighter." I smile as Mark coos at the baby, making her laugh.
"Eden," he says all of a sudden and I frown. The baby's eyes transfixed on him. Why did he say Eden? Eden was his deputy but she sacrificed her life to protect Mark three years ago.
"Eden?" I ask. The baby's eyes look at me as if it recognized the name. Mark looks at me with sorrow laced in his eyes. I don't blame him. Eden and him were best friends. They grew up together.
"She reminds me of Eden, a fighter and gentle." I smile softly. Amanda clears her throat.
"So, it has been decided then?" Mark and I both nod.
"Can we take Eden home today?" I ask. Mark looks at me and smiles softly.
"Of course!" Amanda says rushing out of the room to get paperwork.
"Eden," he whispers, tears glistening in his eyes. Happy tears. I reach over and squeezed his hand.
"We have a baby girl!" I whisper, my throat constricting.
"And named after one of the greatest friends I have ever had," Mark says. I look at Eden.
"Our pack will love you just as we will. I promise you Eden Fischbach."
