Chapter 3

Chapter 3

One week. I had been with Nicolas one week.

It wasn’t hard to figure out his routines and get used to them. He was a very simple man.

I had stopped going to school since the eighth grade. The next four years of my education, I had a private tutor at home. Being home-schooled gave me free range on my schedule.

I would wake up whenever I felt like it. My tutor would stick around for two hours to explain all my assignments or to give me a lesson. Then, I was done for the day.

I was used to waking up late and Nicolas didn’t seem to mind. He was usually an early riser though. By the time I would wake up, he was already dressed for the day.

Nicolas kept his word about taking a one week vacation. He took a break from handling pack duties and Robert was taking over all of the work from his business.

Every day in the afternoon, we took a run with the pack. It was refreshing to be spending time with them.

I also got to finally meet his friend who owned the restaurant in town.

I noticed it was Nicolas’ favorite place to dine in. After we went there the first time, I understood why. It was fancy, the food was great, and the ambient was soothing.

I felt like royalty whenever we went. I found out Nicolas and Ryan- the owner of the restaurant- had a joint investment on something. According to Nicolas, they went way back.

I was surprised to find out Ryan was a human. They got along really well, which was something strange to me. I was used to Wolves sticking with Wolves, and humans with humans.

The rest of the time, I couldn’t exactly complain. Nicolas catered to my every need. He was extremely complacent, more so than I thought I deserved.

Problems came the second week, when Nicolas had to return to work and taking charge of pack duties. I was aware the pack needed constant supervision- mainly because Nicolas had so much land. He had twice more land than Alpha Jackson.

With him gone, I was going to stay home alone. I had been looking forward to that all week.

That was until Monday came along, and I found Angela in the kitchen.

“You sure wake up late,” was the first thing she told me.

I shrugged, even though I felt her comment was meant as an insult.

I began digging around the fridge to make breakfast when she stopped me.

“You’re going to make a mess,” she told me.

All I had done was move the syrup out of the way so that I could grab the gallon of milk.

She kept staring at me while I poured myself some cereal. It was uncomfortable, but I managed to get through that.

Once I was done with breakfast, I went to Nicolas’ study. The charger for my laptop had stopped working, and I hadn’t bought a replacement yet. I was planning on using Nicolas’ computer to get online.

Apparently, that was against the rules as well.

“He doesn’t like it when people mess with his computer,” Angela told me. I had just taken a seat on the chair behind his desk.

By this point, I was already annoyed. She’d been following me around the house, watching over me like a hawk.

When I entered the games room, she told me I wasn’t allowed to touch the TV. Nicolas liked to keep it on the channel he usually watched. If I changed it, he would get upset- or so she told me.

I drew the line when I tried using the bathroom downstairs. According to Angela, it wasn’t clean and they were fixing the sink- so Nicolas didn’t want anyone using it.

An hour later, she made a show of using that same restroom.

After that, I went upstairs and locked myself in our room. Angela tried to come inside with me. She claimed she was going to help me clean it, but it was obvious she wanted another excuse to get after me. I told her I had a headache, and shut the door before she could get in.

When Nicolas came home later in the afternoon, Angela was still around to greet him.

I had been hearing her shuffling things around in the second floor. I guess it was the only way she could keep an eye on me.

“Where’s Leila?” I heard Nicolas ask her.

I could hear him upstairs, even though he wasn’t close to our room. My Wolf had been surfacing, so it was easy to catch any noises.

All of my senses were sharpened with my Wolf at bay. It was probably safer that I had locked myself in the room. My Wolf had been ready to slap some sense into Angela.

“Is something wrong?” Nicolas asked me when he entered the room.

I shook my head as an answer.

I heard as the front door shut, and Angela’s presence disappeared from the house.

I’d been messing with my iPod, which was about to run out of battery.

“Angela seemed upset,” Nicolas commented.

He came to sit by the bed, and began rubbing my feet.

I shrugged, but didn’t say anything. My Wolf was so close to the surface, I was scared saying something would make me snap at him.

“Did something happen between you two?” He asked.

He leaned closer, putting his hand under my chin to make me look at him.

He looked worried, which was making me break. I wasn’t looking to worry him.

“Does Angela have to come?” I asked him.

“I don’t need any help. You said last week she wasn’t going to come anymore,” I said, bringing back the conversation from the day I’d met Angela.

Nicolas looked away, his expression thoughtful for a minute.

“I was thinking all week. I don’t want you here alone in the house. It makes me feel better if someone’s here with you,” he said, running his hand up and down on my thigh.

It had been another thing I’d been looking out for. The ‘no sex’ rule wasn’t settling too well with him. He hadn’t told me yet, but I could see it in his eyes whenever I pushed him away.

“Well, Angela isn’t the only member of the pack that can come,” I said

“Did she tell you anything?” Nicolas asked, his expression morphing into a frown.

“She doesn’t like me.”

“How do you know that?” He asked, now grinning at me.

“Nicolas, I’m being serious. Look, if you want to leave me with someone- fine. But I don’t want Angela,” I told him.

By this point, I had set my iPod aside because I was scared I’d break it.

He crawled toward me, to settle himself over my body.

I was half sitting down, with my back on the headboard of the bed. Nicolas ended up resting his chin over my chest, while resting his body between my legs.

“Who do you want me to leave you with?” He asked.

I felt exposed with our position. The dress I’d been wearing had risen up, and with Nicolas between my legs- it wasn’t exactly helping.

“I don’t really care, as long as it’s not with her,” I told him.

He chuckled, before reaching up to capture my lips in a kiss.

I responded to the kiss, but was careful with my movements. I was well aware that he would grow tired of waiting for me to be ready. Still, anytime he tried to mate, I had found a way to distract him with something else.

Nicolas picked himself up, and grabbed my waist. I squealed when he pulled me from my waist and lay me down flat on my back.

“Do you know what you do to me?” Nicolas asked.

He began trailing kisses down my neck, sucking on the bite mark he’d made just last week.

I felt one of his hands on my leg, running slowly up my thigh, and under my dress. The moment his hand began pulling down on my panties, I grabbed his arm to stop him.

He grinned into my neck, but moved his hand away. Once I felt it on my waist, I was able to let out a sigh of relief.

We continued making out a while longer on the bed. He didn’t attempt anything else, and I was thankful for that. I was happy that for now, it was enough to satisfy him and his Wolf.

The next day, I woke up to an empty house. I did a happy dance when I noticed Angela wasn’t there.

I was surprised when I stepped out to the front porch, and found a guy sitting down in a chair.

When he saw me, he got up and bowed at me.

“Luna,” he said, smiling at me.

“Did you need anything?” I asked him, looking around the porch and wondering if he’d been knocking while I was asleep.

“Alpha Nicolas sent me to watch over you. I’m Lincoln,” he said, with a bright smile.

“Oh,” I muttered, feeling a little shocked.

“Well, do you want to come in? I’ll make breakfast or something,” I offered, getting ready to go back in.

He shook his head, while chuckling.

“I can’t go inside,” he told me, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

I raised an eyebrow at his words. It definitely wasn’t the answer I’d been expecting.

“What do you mean? I’m inviting you. You can come in,” I told him, motioning inside the open door.

“The Alpha doesn’t want any males inside the house if he isn’t home.”

His words made me frown, but I partly didn’t believe that.

“I’m inviting you inside. Are you going to say ‘no’ to your Luna?” I asked him, while crossing my arms.

He looked torn after I said that, which was unsettling me.

“Please don’t do that. If Alpha Nicolas finds out I was in there with you, he isn’t going to like it.”

It took me an hour to convince him he could come inside. By the time I had him in the kitchen, I was already frustrated. I didn’t know if I should go and talk to Nicolas about this.

Right after we finished breakfast, Lincoln left back outside. I shook my head at him as I watched him go. There was no point in getting after him. If it was Nicolas’ doing, there was no way I would make Lincoln change his mind.

I’d gone upstairs to slip onto some jeans and a nicer shirt. I did my hair in a braid, only adding some chap stick on my lips.

Lincoln looked surprised when he saw me changed.

“Where is Nicolas at?” I asked him.

After Lincoln told me he was at the underground prison, which was where they usually held all the small pack meetings, I began walking in that direction.

“Do you want me to carry you?” Lincoln asked, looking at me worriedly..

“I’m fine. Is it really far away?”

“It’s a few miles. If you want, we can drive there,” he suggested.

The drive there was quiet. Lincoln asked me why I wanted to go see Nicolas, but I shrugged it off. My silent answer seemed to worry him. On the way, I noticed a light coat of sweat forming on his forehead.

There were a few guys outside of the pack building, also working as the pack prison. I was surprised to see it was three stories high. The one back home was just a one story and it went down below.

Lincoln explained that any prisoners were kept underground, but Nicolas didn’t want to waste the space- so he created offices in the building. Any pack problems, whether small or large, were dealt with there.

When I passed by pack members, they would bow their heads at me in respect. Some of them did say ‘hello’, but most of them remained quiet.

Vincent, Nicolas’ nephew, was sitting on top of a desk, reading through a paper. He looked really into it, only taking a break to sip some on his coffee.

“Vincent,” I called out to him.

As soon as he saw me, a wide grin spread across his lips.

“Luna,” he said, getting up from the desk and coming over to greet me.

“Is Nicolas around?” I asked, looking at the small resting area to the side.

“He’s upstairs. I can take you,” he said, holding out his arm for me to loop mine through it.

I couldn’t help but smile at him. I took his arm and let him lead the way. Lincoln followed quietly behind us.

Nicolas’ office was on the third floor. Vincent told me the third floor was the most exclusive of the building. The meeting rooms were there, along with both Nicolas and Robert’s office.

All of the rooms and offices had glass walls on the front part. When we passed by them, I was able to see inside. There were only a few people coming and going.

Once we stopped in front of Nicolas’ office, I found myself irritated. My Wolf let out a growl, which surprised both Vincent and Lincoln.

It must’ve been loud enough, because Nicolas looked up from his desk. When Angela turned around, I couldn’t help the glare that I sent her way.

I opened the door without asking, and made my way toward Nicolas.

“Get out,” I ordered, looking at Angela.

She looked taken aback by my words for a moment. Instead of doing as I said, she turned to look at Nicolas. I was now standing beside him. He tried to reach out for me, but I pulled away from his arm.

“Tell her to get out,” I told him, still keeping my eyes on Angela.

Vincent and Lincoln looked like they didn’t know what to do.

“Leave us,” Nicolas said, waving the outside of his hand, not only to Angela, but the two guys as well.

I was able to catch Angela’s scowl, directed only to me. By this point, I was already too angry about the situation to care for it.

“What was she doing here?” I asked him.

Nicolas raised an eyebrow, again stretching out his arms toward me. He was waiting for me to approach him.

I pulled away from him, and took a seat in front of his desk. I shoved away the chair where Angela had been sitting and took a seat on the one beside it.

“Angela was asking me for a job around here, since you don’t want her at our house,” Nicolas replied.

I felt angry. My Wolf wasn’t exactly helping. She kept taunting me, telling me to go after Angela. I tried to keep her down, ignoring her as best as I could.

“So she either wants to be at the house tormenting me, or she wants to be here with you?” I asked, crossing my arms.

“She torments you?” Nicolas asked, chuckling.

I narrowed my eyes at him. The last thing I needed was for him to be mocking me.

“I already told you she doesn’t like me.”

“That is why she’s going to work here,” he said.

This time, he got up from his chair and came around to my side.

“So that she can be closer to you?” I asked.

He shook his head, laughing once again.

“Hardly, I’m rarely ever here,” he said, trying to get me up from the chair.

“I don’t want her here,” I told him.

I wasn’t sure why it was bothering me so much. It just kept running through my mind that even though I wasn’t exactly head over heels in love with Nicolas- I also didn’t want him cheating on me.

“Why not?”

He managed to place his arms around my waist, and made me get up from the chair. I was now standing in front of him, with his hands wrapped around my waist, while he sat on the desk.

“I already told you why,” I replied.

“You’re jealous?” He asked me, chuckling lightly.

I tried pulling away from him, but he held on to me tighter.

“You know what? Do whatever you want,” I snapped, pulling away from him completely.

He tried grasping on to me, but I was quicker than him and got away.

I began making my way out of his office, with Nicolas following after me. He was finding humor in all this, and it was only serving to anger me more.

He let me walk all the way downstairs, until I reached the outside of the building. When he took hold of my elbow, I tried yanking it away.

Nicolas was stronger than me. He’d caught me and didn’t let me go this time.

“Angela will stay, but I won’t be seeing much of her anyways. She will be filing documents all day, and that’s in the second floor. I don’t spend a lot of time here, just so you know,” he said, with his head nestled in my neck. He placed a kiss on my cheek, still keeping me in place.

“Fine,” I replied.

As soon as he loosened his hold, I began walking away from him again.

“Leila!” Nicolas called after me.

I hadn’t waited for Lincoln to drive me. I was walking all the way home, hoping my anger would dissipate.

“Stop!” Nicolas commanded. This time, I felt the Alpha side behind his tone.

I stopped, but didn’t turn to face him.

“You’re mad,” he said, as he caught up to me.

“I’m not mad. I’m going home and you can continue on whatever you were doing,” I said, and began walking.

He caught up to me. The moment his hand touched my shoulder, I shifted into my white Wolf.

Nicolas backed away, looking surprised that I had shifted. I growled at him, before turning back to the trail- and running back home.

Clothes ripping behind me made me aware that Nicolas had shifted as well. He quickly made his way toward me. He stood in front of my way, blocking my path.

Since I was now on his pack, I was able to mind link with him. At the moment, I felt him trying to push into my mind. I was blocking him, but it took all I had. Before he could do anything else, I took off running through the trees on the side.

I heard his paws pounding on the ground soon after. The closer I felt him run behind me, the faster I pushed myself to run. It took hardly any time to get back home.

I wasn’t sure if I was just faster than him, or he was letting me be ahead.

There was no way I was shifting outside- where it would leave me naked and exposed. Nicolas shifted into his human form first, and began walking toward the front door.

“Shift,” he ordered.

I could hear the command behind his words, but I still didn’t do it.

Once he’d opened the door to the house, I ran inside. He was still standing beside it- completely naked. It was something I acknowledged, but I was too ticked off to pay attention to it.

It must’ve been minutes that I stayed standing in the living room, before Nicolas walked in. He was only wearing a pair of shorts- leaving his chest bare. It was nice view, but one I didn’t care too much for at the moment.

“Here,” he said, offering me a spaghetti strap nightgown.

I took it from him only because I wanted to shift back and I had no interest in walking around naked. I kept waiting for him to turn away, but he never did.

I shifted back, and put on the gown as quickly as I could. His gaze was on me, which was making me feel nervous.

“That is quite the temper,” he said, when I finally dressed back. My hair was all over the place, and I tried to do another braid- even though I didn’t have anything to tie it with.

I didn’t say anything back to him. I simply finished my braid- doing a strange knot with my hair to keep it in place. Once I was done, I got up, and left the living room.

“I don’t understand why you’re mad,” he said, following after me.

Even if I wanted to say something to that, I really couldn’t. I wasn’t really sure why I was mad either. There were countless of things that had gotten me angry, and it had all built up.

I didn’t like Angela, and I still had yesterday all too present in my memory. I didn’t like that Nicolas didn’t want me around anybody- or at least any male. I didn’t like that Angela had been sneaky enough to go and try to get hired with Nicolas. But, that felt party wrong for me to be mad at.

If I didn’t want her here, she should have a right to go and work over there. My Wolf and I just knew that she was only doing it to be close to Nicolas. Nicolas laughing at me had basically tied it all together.

Saying all of that to him- it felt childish. Since there was nothing else I could say, and I didn’t want to lie, I voted for staying quiet.

“If you don’t want me to hire her, I won’t. She isn’t going to lose anything if I don’t. The job I was going to give her was simply to keep her busy.”

I was already half way up the stairs. Nicolas was following close behind.

“I don’t want to fight about this,” he said, which was what made me turn around.

“We’re not fighting,” I told him, and continued on my way.

Once we made it to our room, I locked myself inside the closet. It was very early in the day, and I had no intentions on prancing around in a night gown.

When I came out, Nicolas was sitting down on the bed. He got up as soon as he saw me.

“We’re not fighting, but you’re ignoring me.”

I shrugged, and went to sit on the couch. The remote wasn’t on the coffee table. While I was looking around, Nicolas came to take a seat. He grabbed the remote, which was under the couch for some reason, and handed it to me.

“I’m not ignoring you,” I told him.

“Yes, you are. Ignoring me is probably worse. At least if we’re fighting I can know why you are mad. Which I still don’t know why you are,” he said, trying to get me to move closer to me.

I’d already pushed him away enough for today, so I allowed him to hold me.

I wasn’t expecting him to move me over to sit on his lap, which earned him a slap from me after he’d set me down.

While I was busy frowning at him, he was laughing at me.

“You pulled me out from work, you know that,” he said, as he took the remote from my hand and turned on the TV.

“I didn’t tell you to leave. If anything, you’re disturbing my peace and quiet,” I retorted.

I tried keeping a serious face. Nicolas was still laughing at my words, or my behavior- I wasn’t really sure. He was slowly walking his fingers on the side of my waist, telling me I should stop being grouchy. I began squirming on his lap, which alerted him that I was ticklish.

“Interesting,” he said, before tickling my waist and stomach. I kept slapping his hand away, but the more I tried, the more he tickled me. By this time, I was already in a fit of giggles- which fueled him to continue messing with me.

Nicolas had wanted to stay with me the rest of the afternoon. He said he’d been working at the office most of the morning, until I’d gotten there to ‘distract him’, as he so kindly put it.

Robert came later in the day because he needed some signatures from him, and they had to make calls to other Alphas.

The other packs already knew that Nicolas had gotten married. I wasn’t his mate, but I was still his wife and Luna of the pack.

Robert told me some packs were curious about me, others simply wanted to meet the new Luna, and the rest were all friends with Nicolas.

Whatever category they fell into, we were supposed to be hosting celebrations in a few days or weeks- depending on the arrangements they made.

I only grunted- already hating the idea of putting up a show for strangers- who would only remind me that I’d gotten into a marriage for the convenience of my former pack.
