Praying

Chapter Five: Praying

Turlough’s POV

I took in my mate’s appearance: her once delicate face was now covered in poppy shaped bruises, her ruby lips swollen and fat, and her inky black hair a mat, her sapphire eyes screamed at me in sorrow! Who had done this to her?

When I had first saw her she was angelic with an oval face with high angled cheek bones and wide-set eyes clouded in sapphires, yes her eyes where shinning sapphires that were large and innocent lined with thick, long eyelashes. Her eyes were framed with eyebrows that followed the slight curve of her eye. Her nose was small, thin and pinched at the end and her lips where full and ruby red. Her hair was a tangle of inky ringlets that cascaded to just below her slim shoulders. Her body shape was small and curvy: petite. And when I first saw her she cloaked in black but I did notice a small tattoo on her wrist of a dove.

“Mate” my wolf had surfaced and pushed me to the back.

People where near our mate when we weren’t. I growled warning them to back away and lucky for them they did. No one stands between a wolf and his mate!

I looked at Emma fear was washing over eyes as she took in my sinister appearance: onyx eyes, an amalgamation of human and wolf and a deep rough voice, wild and untamed.

“Mate” My howl howled in our ruff voice trying to calm himself down by taking in her scent. That’s when we noticed the change, she smelt different not just lemon and honey but pine too.

I heard shuffling behind me and turned to see everyone leaving.

“Where are you going?” My mate’s timid voice asked her eyes widened in fear of being alone with my wolf.

“We need him to calm down and the only way is for him to be with you alone” Rafela explained as she left.

Emma’s POV

I couldn’t understand why they were leaving! I didn’t want to be alone in a room with a mad wolf! He was just standing there staring at me with her deep black not saying anything but the odd howl of mate.

“Turlough” I said after a while of stony silence

“Mate” his voice was husky and rough. I swung my legs off the bed and sat up. I winced in pain and he was there looking at me as if I had fallen. He was scanning me for any injuries.  “Thought I’d lost you” he grabbed hold of me and pulled me close as he buried his face is the crook of my neck.

My whole body stiffened in fear as he breathed me in and we he pulled back his eyes were there crystal blue.

“Who did this to you?” he asked me as he sat next to me on the white bed. His big hand took my face and turned it to him.

“No one” I muttered trying to look away from him when a sudden burst of excruciating pain that pierced my body making me scream out. I felt sick from this agonizing pain that I had overcome me and disappeared like nothing had ever happened.

“What wrong” Turlough was in front of me bending down to catch my watering eyes.

“I don’t...” I screamed again as the piercing pain came back. I began to shake my whole body was on fire.  “What’s happening” I cried out as tears began to fall from my icy blue eyes.

“What going on...” Rafela came in but stopped when she took in my appearance “Oh my god” She ran over to me. “Turlough I need you to go get Avery” she ordered “Now” she shouted as he left the room in a rush. “Right Emma just breath” She helped me back on the bed.

“What’s happening?” I asked through gritted teeth.

“I believe you’re shifting” Rafela stated as she checked my blood pressure, heart rate and blood sugar levels.

“Rafela what is it?” Avery came in worry present of her pale face.

“She’s shifting”

“I can’t I’m not...” I screamed as the pain washed over my body again.

“What do you want me to do?” She asked running over to my other side as both Rafela and Avery grabbed my shoulders to stop me from sitting up.

“Stay still Emma” Avery said is soothing, mother-like voice.  I nodded as I squeezed my eyes shut from the next wave of agonizing pain came over me.

“She 20 so this is going to be a difficult shift; more painful than what you experienced.” Rafela said. “Turlough get me cold water and fresh towels.” Rafela ordered.

I screamed again as the next wave over took the last one. My body was ignited with ruby red fire burning away at me. I couldn’t hold the scream in any longer.

“Why am I burning” I screamed out as sweat began to burn on my forehead.

“Your wolf is burning the hunter and human from you. I’ve never known a hunter or a human in fact to ever become a werewolf but before werewolves’ shift they have to burn the human out of them.” Rafela explained as she mopped my forehead with cool water.

“Because she’s a hunter will she burn for longer?” Avery asked stripping me down to my underwear.

“Maybe” Rafela said wiping the sweat from my flaming body.

“Her skin like ice” Avery said as she covered me in a white, thin sheet.

“It’s the fever setting in. She should black out soon” Rafela said.

“Will it hurt?” I moaned in pain as I felt sickness rising in my dry, sore throat.

“Yes” Avery said with a faraway look in her eye.

Avery’s POV

Pity filled me up as I took in Emma appearance: Sweat dripping down her pale, white face. She was shaking with the pain of having your human side being burnt away. My burning took a few days before I could shift.

I stroked her clammy forehead, brushing her inky locks away.

“Why don’t you try to sleep for a while?” Rafela said as Emma nodded. “I’ll give you something to make you sleep” Rafela explained as she passed Emma cup of mud coloured liquid and told her to neck it down. When she did she fell asleep.  “That should keep her a sleep for a few hours” Rafela sighed as she pack away some things.

“What are we going to do when she wakes? We can’t put the shifting off like we did with Rohanna” I said

“No we can’t”

“Why” Turlough asked worry covering his expression as he took in his sleeping mate.

“Rohanna was ten when she started shifting, she was too young and small to cope with that amount of pain in one go. Emma is twenty and is only just shifting to put this off any longer will kill her more than the shift itself. Let’s hope the burning is over fast for all our sakes”

“So what are you going to do?” Turlough snarled.

“I’m going to call a friend of mine” Rafela said. A few minute later Rafela came back into the white room of the Pack’s infirmary: The infirmary was a large building not far from the main pack house. It was two floors. The room we were in now was a large open ward with four beds of each side with curtains that could be drawn. The infirmary was the only wolf infirmary around for miles so we had other pack’s injured and wounded here.

“We need to move her into the shifting room” Rafela said the infirmary consisted of several different sections: Minor injuries (the one we were in right now), maternity, shifting, and more. Rafela likes to keep an eye of shifting wolves so she’ll come out to one or they’ll come here.

Turlough picked the sleeping Emma up and carried her up to the next floor and down a long corridor to the blue doors of the ‘The Shifting Unit’ with us following. In there, Rafela directed him into a small private room that was pale yellow with a white bed sheets and a large window that looked out into the woods.

Turlough’s POV

I placed her small form onto the clean double bed before bring a chair up to sit by her side. Avery started to dress her in a white hospital gown before covering her in a thin white sheet.

“She’ll be okay Turlough” Avery said placing her small hand on my shoulder.

“I hope so” I whispered taking Emma’s small, sweaty hand in my big one. Praying that she was going to be okay I kissed it before trying to get some sleep myself.

So what do you think?
