Chapter 10
They arrived at Elena's basement. Cement walls surrounded them. The dusty atmosphere had been created from decades of abandonment. Oliver paced back and forth, his anger growing with each step. With unnatural speed, he slammed into the wall and punched at everything in sight.
"Let me out," he shouted.
"Easy, hot head. There's no need to get riled up," Elena retorted.
Oliver turned around and raced towards her. He intended to swing his right fist at her cheek, but she grabbed it first and bent it backwards.
Then, she moved her head so close to Oliver's ear that they were only inches apart, whispering, "Don't test me. Another wrong move and I can break your arm like a twig."
Elena pushed him away, throwing Oliver onto the floor. The overhead lights gave Isabella a better view of his face. Oliver's brown hair was shortly cropped on his head, showing thin cut cheekbones accompanied by blue eyes. The Tattoo of Sight was clearly marked on the side of his neck. He was bewildered by the women standing over him.
"Who the hell are you?" Oliver demanded.
"I think the better question is: What were you doing in that alley?" Isabella responded.
He fell silent, contemplating his next move.
"Okay, you two don't look like cops. I'm going to assume you wanted the Sapphire Sea painting. Sorry to break it to you, but I already sold that."
"That's not why we brought you here."
"Then what's worth my precious time?"
"You're a member of the All-Seeing Eyes," Elena answered.
"The what? Now you're just making stuff up."
She told him of the history behind it and how Isabella was chosen just like him. By the end of the explanation, utter confusion played through Oliver's head.
After trying to make sense of it all, he said, "Yeah right. You two are trying to make me look like a fool. Where are the cameras?"
"It's true. How can we prove it to you?" Isabella questioned.
"If each so-called member has a special power, then what's mine?"
"You move faster than the speed of light or sound. Didn't you ever wonder why you've never been caught?"
"I've been running away from people and things for most of my life. I'm just good at it."
"Trust me," Elena pleaded.
"I guess dodging bullets really draws the line between unrealistic and normal. No one can think fast enough to move out of the way. Stealing holds a limited amount of time before security can spot you. Let's see where this adventure takes me. Dad won't miss my absence," Oliver thought.
"Okay, I'll help you defeat Hellion."
