Chapter VIII

Aquaria was lying in bed as she cried heavily.

Anna had wanted to have a picnic for dinner, but as soon as Aqua saw the ham sandwiches for the picnic, she broke.

"I can't take this anymore, Ruddiger... it's all my fault... I need Varian. I can't live without him... e-even if he never wants to be with me ever again, I at least need him in my life..." Aquaria held the fluffy raccoon close to her as she sobbed.

Ruddiger chittered sadly as he curled up in her arms. Aquaria cried herself to sleep like she did often.

She dreamed of precious memories she had of her and Varian.

💧

Aquaria was doodling in her sketchbook when she felt the bed indent and a hand went over her eyes.

"Guess who," Varian whispered in her ear and she giggled.

"Is it my favorite alchemist?"

"Your one and only," Varian said, keeping his voice low as he removed his hand from over eyes.

She closed her sketchbook and turned to face him.

"What are you doing here, Var?" She asked curiously. "It's the middle of the night."

"Well, it's a full moon and I thought that maybe we could go on a midnight date," Varian said and she smiled brightly.

"Let me get changed really quick," Aquaria said as she slid off her bed.

"Alright," Varian said before going out on her balcony. He was respectful of her, knowing that even though they were together, he should respect her privacy and not be a pervert.

He waited until he felt her hand slip into his.

"I'm ready." She leaned up and kissed his cheek.

"Let's go," Varian said as he looked at her with a smile before Aquaria used her powers to get the water from the air to form into a cloud, but unlike a normal cloud, they didn't fall through it when they stepped on it.

They floated down to the streets of Corona and Varian led her to the docks.

There was a little boat with some candles and a picnic basket. Varian helped her in the boat after getting in himself.

"You set this all up?" Aquaria blushed but she was so happy as Varian rowed them out to sea a bit.

"Yes I did, m'lady," Varian said charmingly and Aquaria laughed.

"You are the best, Var. But m'lady is only an every so often type thing." Aquaria kissed his cheek.

"Cutie patootie?"

"Nope," Aqua said with a shake of her head.

"We'll continue this after our midnight meal. I made ham sandwiches!" Varian said excitedly and Aquaria smiled bright.

"That's great! Thanks, Var!" Aquaria hugged him and he looked down at her. "And this is very romantic."

"I'm glad you think so. It's all for you," Varian said softly and Aqua blushed.

Varian pressed his lips to hers gently and she kissed him back immediately. It only lasted a few moments but it was perfect.

"Let's enjoy this beautiful scenery," Varian murmured, looking into her bright blue eyes.

"Yeah." Aquaria nodded before grabbing some of the food out of the picnic basket.

🧪

Varian saw the kingdom of Arendelle come into view and he became excited but nervous.

"What if she doesn't forgive me, dad? What if she moved on? I don't want to see her in someone else's arms... she's the one I want to be with forever..." Varian hugged himself and Quirin wrapped his arms around his son.

"But what if she's happier?"

"I... I'll be happy for her, but having to see her with someone else... it would hurt so much... but I really want her to be happy... and if she hates me... I-I..." Varian looked at the water, tears coming to his eyes.

"I know Aquaria will never hate you, Varian. I also know that she will forgive you. She has been by your side for so many years. She would never want to lose you," Quirin comforted and Varian sniffed a little as he nodded.

When they got to the docks, Varian took off immediately. He was determined to find Aquaria.

He ran into the gates and then into the palace while the guards were distracted. He saw a red haired girl who looked like she had just woken up.

"Um, excuse me, where is Aquaria's room?" Varian asked and Anna looked up at him tiredly.

"Take a right, left, another left, up the stairs, go right, first door on the right..."

"Thank you!" Varian ran off.

"You're welcome," Anna said before she realized what just happened. "Wait, what? Stop!" She ran after Varian, not having recognized him in her tired state.

Elsa heard Anna yell and ran to see what was going on. She caught up to her sister and ran beside her.

"What's going on?" Elsa asked quickly.

"There's an intruder!"

Varian found the room and immediately ran in. He saw Aquaria asleep under the covers and he immediately was at her side.

He saw Ruddiger asleep in Aquaria's arms and he smiled, moving some hair out of Aqua's face.

She groaned a little as she laid on her back and Varian smiled as he caressed her cheek. He couldn't help himself as he leaned down and kissed her soft lips gently.

"Get away from her!" Anna burst into the room with Elsa by her side.

Varian pulled away and blushed brightly. Elsa looked at him and gasped when she realized who it was.

"Varian?" She inquired.

"How do you know me? Have we met?" Varian asked and Ruddiger peeked his eye open before squeaking. He darted up to Varian's shoulders, chittering happily.

"Aqua talks about you a lot. Also..." Elsa trailed off, looking at the huge painting on the wall of Aquaria, Varian, and Ruddiger.

Varian smiled a little and looked back down at Aqua.

"Why are you here?" Anna asked quickly.

"To apologize and try to get her back... I didn't mean what I said... I was just so angry and scared..." Varian frowned as he remembered everything that he had said to her.

"Oh, then we'll leave you be. Just be gentle. She has been very touchy lately. It's gotten a lot worse," Elsa warned and Varian nodded.

"Okay. Thank you." Varian looked at Aquaria as he imagined if she refused to forgive him.

After Anna and Elsa had left, Varian put a hand on her cheek.

He kissed her one last time, afraid that he may never get to kiss her ever again. He pulled away and gently rubbed her shoulder.

"Aquaria?" Varian shook her a little bit.

"Noooo," she groaned, turning on her side.

Varian couldn't help, but laugh a little. He ran a hand through her hair and when she opened her eyes, she froze.

"V-Varian..." She was wide awake now and he gave a small smile. She sat up quickly and looked at him.

"I'm here." He held his arms open but she wasn't moving which broke his heart. As he went to put his arms down, Aqua started to cry.

"Wh-why are you here? How are you here?" Aquaria asked as Varian hugged himself.

'She's not excited to see me... I lost her... I really lost her...' Varian felt like he was gonna cry. He had hoped Aqua would dive into his arms and he would get to hold her close, but she was just sitting there.

"I wanted to apologize a-and I wanted to get you back..." Varian said quietly. "I-If you don't love me anymore and you don't want to be my girlfriend, I get it... but please forgive me... I at least need you to be my partner again... my best friend... I'll work to earn back your trust and your love but please... I need you so much... I-I can't live without you..."

Aquaria slid off the bed and hugged him tight. "Of course I still love you. I will always love you, Varian."

He smiled and kissed her softly. She smiled as she kissed him back, wrapping her arms his neck. Her cheeks were flushed pink when they pulled away after a moment and she rested her head on his chest.

"I love you too, Bluebell," Varian said softly and Aqua hummed. "You don't like it? I just thought of it because, you know, you have blue streaks and the ocean and-"

"I like it," Aqua cut him off and smiled.

Varian smiled proudly and kissed her head gently.

"Ruddiger missed you too by the way," Aqua said with a little laugh.

"I can tell." Varian scritched Ruddiger's head and the little raccoon smiled as his eyes closed happily. "He's looking a lot better too. He wasn't fed a lot and he had started to not eat the apples he was given."

"I made sure to take good care of him," Aqua said softly as she stroked Ruddiger's back.

"I need to tell you something, Aqua... I know you're probably going to be angry with me, but you have the right to kn-"

The door opened and they both turned to see Anna opening the door.

"Right in here," Anna said and Quirin walked in.

Aquaria gasped before running to hug the leader of Old Corona.

"You're okay!"

Quirin smiled and hugged Aqua close. "I am perfectly fine, my dear."

"Is this what you were going to tell me?" Aqua asked as she looked back at Varian.

"Part of it..." Varian looked at his feet nervously and Aqua walked back over to him.

"Why would I be angry that your father is free? What else happened?" She asked curiously.

"I... well... when your parents had left on a three day trip, my cellmate and I escaped from prison..." Varian explained and Aquaria's eyes widened. "We were assisted by his friends, Saporians, and we kinda sorta took over Corona..."

"What happened to my parents?!" Aqua asked with worry.

"Well, one of the Saporians, Clementine, had a Saporian Wand of Oblivium and we erased your parents' memories..." Varian admitted and he watched Aquaria's eyes fill with relief.

"So they are okay. What about Rapunzel? Did she and the other's come back?"

"Yeah, they came back and Corona is under Rapunzel's rule right now. Why aren't you angry?" Varian didn't understand why she wasn't mad at him.

"Everyone is safe, right?"

"I guess," he said as he thought about it.

"And Corona isn't under the Saporians' rule?"

"Not anymore," Varian answered.

"Then why should I be angry?" Aquaria asked as she grabbed his hand gently.

"B-because I made your parents forget everything! Even you! I took over your kingdom! Y-you should still hate me for what I said to you! I took you and your mother hostage! I attacked your family! I was awful to you! Why don't you hate me?" Tears streamed down Varian's cheeks.

"Because I have been praying and wishing on every star that you would take me back. I didn't think it would happen like this, but I am so happy to see you again. I don't want to be angry at you and I could never hate you. Hopefully my parents will remember again and Corona is in good hands with Rapunzel ruling." Aquaria hugged Varian and let him cry into her shoulder.

Quirin walked over and hugged them both close to him.

"I'm so so sorry, Aquaria. I love you. I really do," Varian said softly and Aqua smiled as she kept her arms around him.

"I love you too, Varian."
