Chapter VI
Iduna took Aquaria into the castle and Agnarr approached them.
"What did you see Grand Pabbie for?" Agnarr asked with worry before he noticed that Aquaria was beside his wife. "Princess Aquaria?"
"Agnarr... I..." Iduna thought about what she was about to say. How would he take hearing that she was Northuldra, the people who killed his father? She feared that he would hate her, but she knew he deserved to know.
Agnarr could see the fear in his wife's face and he wrapped his arms around her, letting her rest her head on his chest. "I love you," he murmured to ease her nerves before she looked up at him. She told herself that he wouldn't hate her, especially after all their years together.
"I need to tell you about my past and where I'm from," Iduna said and Agnarr reached up, gently cupping her cheek.
"I'm listening," he replied as she nuzzled into his hand with a smile.
"I'm not from Arendelle... I'm Northuldran... the one who saved you in the enchanted forest the day it fell was me," she said softly and his hand fell from her cheek. Fear gripped her heart, thinking that she had been wrong and he was angry. "I'm sorry I never told you. If anyone knew, I would've been killed. I wanted to tell you as soon as we were together, but I didn't want you to change your mind... I wanted you to love me for me... not hate me because my people killed your father..."
Agnarr wasn't mad though, he was in shock. He had always wanted to thank whoever saved him that day, never knowing who it was, but he never would've thought it would be the love of his life that saved him in the forest.
Iduna became more afraid from his silence and Aquaria didn't know what was happening.
"Please don't be mad. I never meant to deceive you. I just didn't want to lose you. I still don't want to lose you. I love you so much. Please don't hate me..." she said as she nearly started to cry.
"Hate you? Darling, I could never ever hate you. I just... wow... I have been hoping to meet my savior to thank them and I was married to her the entire time. I love you so much, Iduna. Never forget that." Agnarr held her tight and she breathed deeply.
"Thank you," she murmured in relief.
"No, thank you, my love." He kissed her softly and she smiled. Aquaria looked down at the ground, grossed out by the two kissing.
Agnarr pulled away after a moment and smiled. "Now tell me why this has come up now and why you went to the trolls," he said gently.
"Aquaria has a scarf like mine. It is a Northuldra scarf. Each family has one and each scarf is only slightly different than the other families. Her's is exactly the same as mine. I wasn't sure how she had the scarf and she said that the water spirit is the one who brought her to Corona as well as here to Arendelle," Iduna said to her husband and he was shocked.
"But the spirits vanished when the forest fell," Agnarr said as he let go of Iduna.
"Pabbie showed bits from the past. Aquaria's past to be exact. She was born in the forest. The Nokk took her out. She's been through the dark sea. That is where Ahtohallan is. We can get answers about Elsa there. We will be able to help her finally control her magic," Iduna said and Agnarr hummed.
"We must plan for this journey if it is the only way. The dark sea is dangerous. Though I'm unsure if this journey is wise. No one has ever made it out alive. Except for you, Aquaria." The king looked at the young princess. "But why are you here in Arendelle, princess? You should be at home in Corona with your parents."
Aqua looked down and rubbed her arm. "I don't wanna go back home... I want my mommy, but I don't wanna go back..."
"What happened, sweetheart?" He knelt down and hugged her gently, seeing the tears in her eyes.
"My daddy won't let me leave the palace ever again and I'm not allowed to have the whole kingdom at my birthday so I'll never see Varian ever again..." She started to cry again as she thought about her best friend. "I just wanted to play with him and do alchemy... I had so much fun with him, but I'll never see him again... I'm not allowed to have any friends... I thought my daddy loved me but he hates me..."
"Oh, sweetie, he doesn't hate you. I know it may not seem like it, but he did it to protect you," Iduna knelt down as well and rubbed her back gently. "He wants to keep you safe in the palace because he loves you. He doesn't want to see anything happen to you."
"If he loves me then why won't he let me go to see my friend? He never lets me go to Old Corona... every time I ask he says no... I could go with guards or even with him but he won't let me... I don't like sneaking out, but I just wanna play with Varian... I wanted to be with my only friend..." Aqua trembled a little.
"I know it hurts, darling. You'll have more friends eventually. You could see if any of your palace staff have children your age," Agnarr suggested and she shook her head, letting out a sob.
"I don't want any different friends... I want Varian... I wanna keep helping him with science and play with him out in the fields and coloring with him and playing card games and finding the patterns in the stars on his roof and secretly getting snacks to eat when we were in his laboratory... I don't wanna do that with anyone else... I can't replace Varian..."
"Aww, it sounds like someone has a crush," Agnarr said as he smiled, trying to lighten the mood.
"Eww! Gross! He's my best friend! I don't have a crush on him!" Aquaria's face scrunched up as she made a face at the thought of having a crush on Varian.
"Agnarr, she's eight. That's a bit young to be teasing her about a boy," Iduna said, although even she almost giggled at Aquaria's reaction. "But you're right, Aqua. Boys are gross. You can tell your dad I said that."
"Hey," Agnarr pouted playfully.
"They become less gross when they're older though. Much older," Iduna grinned at Agnarr.
"All boys are gross. I'll never kiss a boy. Yuck!" Aqua shook her head and Iduna laughed.
"I said the same thing when I was your age. But maybe you can stick to that. No kissing boys," Iduna giggled and Aquaria nodded.
"Never. Kissing is gross," she confirmed before her belly rumbled and Agnarr heard it.
"But food is delicious. Let's go get you something to eat," he said as he picked her up. "Do you like potato dumplings?"
"I don't know," she shrugged, snuggling up against his chest.
Agnarr chuckled lightly and took her to the dining hall with Iduna by his side.
After they had fed her, Iduna gave Aquaria a nice bath. She picked up a blue nightgown that she had grabbed for Aqua to change into.
"This was Elsa's favorite nightgown when she was your age," Iduna said with a soft smile.
"Can I meet Elsa?" Aqua asked curiously. "I really wanna meet her."
"I don't see why not. However, she may not want to come near you. She hasn't fully gotten control of her powers like you. I'm not even sure how you managed to control it at such a young age," Iduna said and Aqua smiled.
"Delta helped me a lot. My parents did too but it was mostly Delta. I haven't gotten it completely yet but I work on it all the time. I haven't been able to freeze boiling water yet which is what I wanna learn to do. There is a bunch of other things but that is my main goal," Aqua said with determination and Iduna laughed lightly.
"Well let's get you dressed and I'll take you to see Elsa. I'm sure Anna is around here somewhere as well," she said with a smile.
Aqua got into the nightgown and smiled. "I'm ready!"
Iduna picked her up and took her to Elsa's room.
"Elsa, darling, I'm coming in," Iduna said after knocking on the door.
Elsa looked up from her journal and looked straight at Aquaria.
"Mom! She shouldn't be in here! I-I could-"
"Darling, calm down. She is alright. This is Aquaria. She is the adopted daughter of Arianna and Frederic. You were at her first birthday party," Iduna said, knowing that it was a long time ago. It was the year they closed the gates. Elsa was only eight and Anna was five so she wasn't sure if they would remember.
She set Aqua down and watched as the young princess approached her daughter carefully.
"No, stay away from me. Please, I don't wanna hurt anyone else," Elsa whimpered as she curled up slightly.
"You won't hurt me," Aqua said with a smile but Elsa shook her head.
"You don't know that. I-I can't control it," Elsa said with fear.
"Yes, you can. You are just too afraid," Aquaria said as she sat down in front of Elsa. She put her hands to the floor and the ice in the room evaporated in seconds.
"H-how... how did you do that?"
"She has a gift like you, sweetheart," Iduna said as she walked over. Agnarr had seen them go into Elsa's room and he was watching from the doorway quietly.
"I can control water. Ice is a form of water," Aqua smiled as she made lifted her hand. She used water droplets in the air around them, the water coming together to form the shape of a snowflake floating above her hand. It froze and Aqua grabbed it gently. She then let it melt and the water evaporated.
"How can you control it? I've been trying for years." Elsa was desperate to know how this eight year old was in control of her powers, but she, a sixteen-year-old, was still so out of control.
Iduna glanced at Aqua, silently telling her to leave out the Nokk. Aqua wasn't paying attention to Iduna though but she heard a whisper in her ear telling her that she shouldn't say anything about Delta.
"A friend of mine helped me control it," Aqua said and Iduna smiled. "You just have to learn to not be afraid of it."
"But what if I hurt someone?"
"You will only hurt someone if you are afraid or reckless," Aqua repeated what her mother always used to tell her when she was first trying to control her magic.
Elsa hummed and smiled. Aqua moved and hugged Elsa gently. She froze, but carefully hugged the young girl back.
"Thank you, Aquaria. I will try," Elsa said as she relaxed a bit.
"Alright, Aqua. It's time to go to bed," Agnarr said from the doorway with a smile.
"Aww, but I haven't even gotten to meet Anna yet," Aquaria said with a pout.
"You can meet Anna and then it's bedtime," Iduna compromised and Aqua smiled brightly.
"Okay! Bye Elsa!" Aqua waved and ran out of the room giggling.
"Goodnight, darling. We love you," Agnarr said to Elsa with a smile and Iduna nodded.
"We always will," she said softly.
"I love you both too," Elsa replied and smiled as her parents left the room.
Aqua was running down the hall when she ran into a red-haired girl.
"Hi there! Who are you?" The girl asked with a bright smile.
"Anna, this is King Frederic and Queen Arianna's daughter-"
"Aquaria? It's been so long!" Anna cut off her father who had walked up behind Aqua.
"We met before? I don't remember you," Aqua frowned and Anna giggled.
"You probably wouldn't since you were only a year old. I went to your first birthday party! It was the last time I left the kingdom!"
"I'm surprised you remember her," Iduna said with a smile.
"Of course I remember! Corona was sooo cool!"
"Alright now I think it's time for the both of you to go to bed," Agnarr said and they both looked at him.
"Aww," they both pouted in unison.
"It's late," Agnarr said before he kissed Anna's forehead.
"Okay," Anna huffed, but went to her room.
"Where am I gonna sleep?" Aqua asked.
"You can sleep in the guest room," Iduna said as she picked her up.
"Okay," Aqua murmured as she snuggled into Iduna's chest.
Iduna took her to the guest room and tucked her in.
"Goodnight, sweetheart," Iduna said softly before leaving the room.
"Goodnight," she murmured back as she curled up under the covers.
"Goodnight, Varian... I miss you..."
