Chapter VIII
Rose walked through Neserdnia with Varian right by her side as he clung to the skirt of her dress.
"Rosie!" A voice called and Rose turned to see her childhood friend waving to her with a little girl in her arms as well as a young boy standing by her side.
"Lu! It's so good to see you again!" Rose went over excitedly and Varian looked at the woman curiously.
"Is this the famous Varian you told me about?" Lucia asked as she smiled at the young boy who hid behind his mother.
"Yes it is. Varian, this is Lucia," Rose introduced as she looked down at her son. "And her children Michael and Camila."
"He's so cute!" Lucia gushed with a light giggle and Michael waved to Varian.
Varian just buried himself into his mother's dress, not saying a word.
"He's just shy. He'll come around to you guys eventually," Rose explained and Lucia smiled.
"It's alright. Come on. My mother is waiting with Peter," Lucia said and they all went to find Carmen and Lucia's husband.
🌟
"How was your trip, darling?" Quirin asked once Rose and Varian returned home.
"It was wonderful. We tried to get Varian and Camila to play together, but they don't seem to care much for each other," Rose explained and Quirin hummed softly.
"I'm glad you had fun though. I missed you," Quirin said as he hugged his wife, kissing her lips tenderly.
Rose couldn't stop smiling as she kissed him back happily, her entire being floating on air.
She had thought that the world hated her when her brother murdered their parents and started hunting her down, but she knew that wasn't true. She never would've met Quirin if Dante didn't kill their parents and Varian never would've been born.
She considered herself very lucky to have Quirin and Varian by her side.
Rose missed her parents, and if she was honest, she missed her brother too. Even though he hated her and killed their parents, she still remembered the good times she'd had with him.
"I love you so much, Rosie," Quirin murmured as he gently caressed her cheek and kissed her forehead.
"I love you so much more, Quirin. You mean the world to me," Rose whispered back as she leaned into his touch.
Her eyes closed in bliss as she enjoyed the warmth of his embrace.
As they held each other close, silence consumed them. They began to sway ever so slightly as the world seemed to stop spinning.
To the two of them, everything in that moment was pure perfection.
💧
"I can't wait for you to get a proper tour of Arendelle. Last time you came, you were only here for an hour or two," Aqua spoke excitedly as she sat with Varian at the bow of the ship.
"Yeah," Varian mumbled as he scratched the back of his head.
Aqua immediately knew what he was thinking so she grabbed his hands gentle as she said, "it wasn't your fault, Varian."
"But it was. I had the choice to act reasonably or rash. I acted rash. I should've just calmed down and not get so angry," Varian whispered as he looked down.
"Varian, you were upset with yourself and you just wanted to find someone to blame. Nobody blames you other than yourself," Aqua replied and he sniffed.
"I was just so afraid of being alone..." Varian admitted as his eyes became misty.
"But you would've still had me. I know it wouldn't have been the same, but we would've gotten your father out eventually," Aqua spoke gently as she rubbed her thumbs over the backs of her hands.
"But I thought that I had lost you. When you didn't help me... I thought I was truly alone. I was just to upset to realize you were just trying to protect me," Varian replied as he looked up into her eyes.
"It's over now, Varian. It was just fate testing you and you passed. You learned so much from what happened and you believe me, you didn't ruin anything," Aquaria said and she leaned forwards on her knees, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"But I almost lost you forever. I-I broke up with you and you could've found someone else. I lost you," Varian whimpered and Aqua held his cheeks in her hands.
"You never lost me. You may have broken up with me, but you never lost my heart. Varian, my heart will always belong to you no matter what happens," Aqua whispered as she wiped away the tears that had trickled down his cheeks. "I loved you every second that I was away."
"I loved you too. I loved you so much. I still do and I always will. You're everything to me Aqua," Varian cried softly and he hugged her close as he buried his face in her neck.
Aqua smiled as she held him close to her and gently pet his head to help soothe him.
Ruddiger scampered over the deck and squeaked at them.
"What's wrong? What did I miss?" He chittered and Aqua looked over at him with a smile.
"It's nothing, Ruddiger. We're okay. I promise," Aqua assured the raccoon and Varian calmed himself down.
The alchemist looked up and pressed a gentle kiss to the princess's lips. He savoured the sweet taste of her lips as he held her close to him.
"Ahem. I hope I'm not interrupting something," Frederic spoke and they both pulled away.
"Not at all," Varian replied with a nervous smile.
"Good. Varian, I would like to speak with you," the former Coronan king spoke before looking at his younger daughter. "Alone, please."
"I'll go get some snacks for us," Aqua said to Varian before she pecked his lips. She jumped up and ran with Ruddiger to get some food.
"I, um, promise we won't do that around you again, sir," Varian spoke quickly as he stood up.
"No, it's okay. I trust you, Varian. I know that you would never take advantage of my baby girl. She loves you so much and I can see that you love her very much as well," Frederic said as he put a hand on Varian's shoulder gently.
"I do. More than anything. I would never do anything with her if I did not have her permission. Even if she did want it... I-I'm not ready for that yet," Varian admitted with a bright blush.
"I understand, but I did not come just to interrupt you both. I need you to do something for me and promise me you'll do it," the man replied, fear in his eyes.
"What is it?" Varian asked immediately and the king sighed.
"You and Aquaria will eventually get to the Ever Realm. I have no doubt about that. Once you do, please keep her safe no matter what," Fred requested desperately. "I know that she is capable of defending herself, but we don't know what dangers are there. I can't lose my baby girl."
"I promise that I'll do everything to keep her out of harm's way. I would take an arrow through the heart before I let something hurt," Varian replied seriously.
"You've grown so much from the first time I saw you at Aqua's first birthday. I'm proud that one day I'll get to call you my son. Aqua made the perfect choice," Fred said with a warm smile and Varian smiled back.
"I got incredibly lucky. She's the love of my life, but more importantly, she is my best friend forever." Varian hugged Frederic and the former king returned the gesture.
💧
"We're here!" Aqua cheered as the ship docked in Arendelle.
When she ran towards the exit, she heard the call again. Her body froze as she looked towards where she believed it was coming from.
North.
"Aqua? Is it the voice again?" Varian asked curiously as he saw her froze.
"Yeah. It seems louder than before," Aquaria replied, looking at the alchemist.
Elsa had been waiting with Anna on the dock, having also heard the voice.
Aquaria just ran to hug the two sisters with a bright smile. "I've missed you guys!"
"We missed you too!" Anna exclaimed as they all hugged.
Arianna and Frederic walked up to them as well, a smile on their faces.
"Welcome to Arendelle, your majesties," Elsa greeted as she gave a polite bow.
"It's wonderful to be here again. I haven't gotten to walk around Arendelle since before Aquaria came to us," Arianna replied with a bright smile.
She and Fred hadn't been able to go to the coronation because of their duties. They had heard about what had happened though from Aqua, Rapunzel, and Eugene who had all gone.
"I can show you both to your room. Aqua already knows where her room is," Elsa said and Aqua nodded.
"Come on, Var. We can go unpack!" Aqua spoke excitedly, Ruddiger climbing onto her shoulders.
"Are you both really sleeping together?" Frederic questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, dad," Aqua replied with a grimace. "We sleep together whenever we go to Eden and we're almost always sleeping over with each other."
"They're fine, Fred. I trust Varian," Arianna told her husband.
"I trust him too, but I just don't like my little girl sleeping with her boyfriend," Fred argued as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"We'll be fine, dad. We're gonna live together one day anyway," Aqua assured, holding Varian's hand with a smile.
"Alright. Go on," Fred gave in and he sighed softly as the young couple ran to the castle.
"So do you stay in the same room every time?" Varian asked curiously as they walked in the gates. Ruddiger watched as they walked, remembering the Arendellian castle from his stay.
"Yep! I've been staying in this room since the first time I ran away to come here," Aqua confirmed, leading him towards the room.
Varian smiled and when he walked into their room he laughed lightly. "I remember seeing that painting the last time I was here."
Aqua looked at the wall where she had painted a huge mural of her, Varian, and Ruddiger. She hummed softly and wrapped her arms around Varian's neck.
Ruddiger jumped off and snuggled up on the pillows that were on the bed.
"I'm just really glad that this time you're here with me. We can go for a horse ride through the woods, go to a sweetshop, get some tools, or, the best activity by far, we can snuggle," Aqua spoke as she rested her head on his chest with a smile.
"Hm, I like those ideas," Varian agreed, swaying with her happily.
"Oo! I wanna show you something!" Aqua remembered, perking up excitedly. "Come on! Come on!"
Varian chuckled as he was tugged out of the room and down the hall.
Aqua bounded into the study with Varian and watched as his eyes widened. Varian walked over to the desk that had all the equipment.
"Elsa got it all for me the last time I was here, but I barely used it. I figured now we could put it to good use!" Aqua smiled, happy to see the joyous look fill his entire face.
"This is incredible!" Varian gushed as he looked at the set up.
Varian started to play with the implements on the table, excited to work with Aqua in the study.
"You're the best girlfriend ever!" Varian turned and wrapped Aqua in a hug.
"Don't thank me. Elsa is the one who got this stuff for me," Aqua replied with a light giggle.
"She's awesome too! This is gonna be the best trip ever!" Varian nearly squealed with excitement.
Aqua thought it was utterly adorable. She couldn't get enough of the cuteness she received from him.
🧪
"I'm sure she'll say yes!" Varian said as he walked with Kristoff, Sven, Ruddiger, and Aqua.
Kristoff breathed deeply as he looked at Varian. "I hope you're right."
"Kristoff, Anna loves you so much. I see the way she looks at you. It's the way varian looks at me when he thinks I'm not looking. I've caught you with the same look towards Anna. She would never turn down your proposal," Aqua assured him with a smile.
"Yeah, you're right. I just want it to be perfect. She deserves nothing less than perfection," Kristoff replied.
Aqua smiled and stroked Sven's fur gently.
"The leaves are already falling
Sven, it feels like the future is calling," Kristoff started to sing, Ruddiger situating himself on his shoulders.
"Are you telling me tonight you're gonna get down on one knee?" Kristoff voiced for Sven as he got on his knee and pulled out the ring that was for Anna.
"Yeah bud, I'm really bad at planning these things out, like candlelight and pulling of rings out," Kristoff admitted and Aqua giggled as Kristoff fumbled with the ring.
Sven caught the ring in his teeth before it could get lost. Ruddiger chittered before jumping into Aqua's arms
"Maybe you should leave all the romantic stuff to me," Aquaria sang, putting a hand on Kristoff's shoulder.
"Yeah, some things never change
Like the love that you feel for her," Varian joined in as he smiled at Kristoff.
They went to Oaken's and Aqua grinned as Kristoff was pampered. Sven massaged his shoulders as Oaken did his nails and Ruddiger fixed his hair.
They then went to a shop to buy some things to dress up Kristoff.
"Some things stay the same, like how reindeers are easier. But if I commit and I go for it, I'll know what to say and do!" Kristoff was beaming as he sang from his heart. "Right?"
"Some things never change," Kristoff sang for Sven who smiled bright.
Aqua spotted Anna and Olaf coming their way.
"Sven, the pressure is all on you," Kristoff continued as he held his arms out for Anna.
Anna smiled as she ran over, but she playfully ducked under Kristoff's arms and went over to Sven.
Olaf jumped up into Kristoff's arms and Aqua laughed before she yelped.
Varian twirled her around, taking her by surprise. He pulled her close and chuckled. Aqua giggled as she pecked his lips.
"Come on, guys! Let's help set up the feast!" Aqua said excitedly and they all nodded.
They all split up to help the townsfolk with setting up for the celebration.
Aquaria put on a magic show for some kids with Ruddiger and Varian helped a family with putting up some decorations.
Anna found Elsa and ran to hug her with a bright smile.
"The wind blows a little bit colder," the towns people sang joyfully.
"And you all look a little bit older," Olaf sang as he dropped down from a table that was being carried into the kingdom's main plaza.
"It's time to count our blessings beneath an autumn sky," Anna and Kristoff harmonized as they put a tablecloth on one of the wooden tables. They went to kiss only for Oaken to place a giant pumpkin on the table between them.
"We're always living the kingdom aplenty, that stands for the good of the many," the kingdom chorused together.
Elsa ran up to the flagpole with Anna. "And I promise you the flag of Arendelle will always fly!" She shot a blast of magic into the air, snowy fireworks blasting around the Arendellian flag.
"Our flag will always fly!" Anna beamed as she looked at her sister.
"Our flag will always fly!" The men sang out with pride.
"Our flag will always fly!" The woman of Arendelle joined in harmoniously.
"Some things never change. Turn around and the time has flown," everyone chorused as the food was passed between everyone in the kingdom. "Some things stay the same. Though the future remains unknown!"
Elsa was making little trinkets out of ice and snow for the kids. One little girl requested a sexton and Elsa was a bit confused, but fulfilled the request nonetheless.
Aqua danced with Varian in the square, smiling brighter when she saw her parents come over. The two Coronan royals joined Aqua and Varian, dancing all around.
Anna and Elsa started to dance as well and they were all having a blast as the night went on.
"May our good luck last. May our past be past. Time's moving fast, it's true. Some things never change," the kingdom sang as everyone made their way home.
"And I'm holding on tight to you," Anna sang as she took her heels off, going towards the doors of the castle.
"Holding on tight to you," Elsa sang back to her sister as they hugged.
"Holding on tight to you," Olaf repeated as he passed, sitting on Sven's antlers with Ruddiger on his head.
"Holding on tight to you." Kristoff spun Anna around gracefully, walking through the doorway with his girlfriend.
"I'm holding on tight to you," Aqua finished as she looked between Varian and her parents.
