21|BACK IN BLACK
"They're initiating launch."
Maria's voice rang through Ally's head as she made her way towards the Helicarriers. Sam and Steve followed her lead, running behind her. Sam turned to face the two, his goggles covering his eyes. "How do we know the bad guys from the good guys?"
"If they're shooting at you, they're bad."
"That's straightforward," Ally grabbed the gun from her belt. "Swords seem a little old fashion don't you think?"
Sam, in his Falcon suit, ignited his wings and began to fly towards the Helicarriers. Ally watched as Sam flew over them, silently hoping he does his job right.
"Ready to jump?" Steve questioned his friend as they neared the edge. "Or has years of solitude made you scared?"
"What's that saying?" she questioned, leaping off of the edge, her legs kicking effortlessly and elegantly in the air. "Ladies first?"
Steve landed beside her, each of them tumbling slightly before getting right back up and running straight ahead. Immediately, incoming bullets foiled their plans and they ducked down for cover.
"Hey Cap," Sam called out through the earpiece. "I found those bad guys you were talking about."
Ally slammed her elbow into a HYDRA member as her and Steve took shelter behind some cargo containers. "What's your status?"
"You okay?" Steve quickly added, rolling a grenade towards some incoming agents. "Do you need back up?"
"Well," Sam responded. "I'm not dead yet!"
"Cap," Ally yelled, pointing at more incoming agents. "Duck!"
Steve squatted down as Ally aimed her gun and began shooting, hitting each of the agents flawlessly. She then took one of her swords and swung it at a agent preparing to throw another grenade. She spun around and stepped on Steve's back, using the force of her jump to catch the sword she had thrown before it had time to hit the ground. Steve swung his shield and began running, knowing Ally could handle herself.
"Falcon," Maria's voice returned. "Status?"
"Engaging," Sam replied. "Alright Cap, I'm in."
"Eight minutes Cap."
"Working on it!"
There was a glint of fear surging through Ally as she made her way towards the Helicarriers. Maybe it was just the fact that somewhere, Bucky was lost, unable to control himself, indirectly searching for her. It hurt Ally more than she'd care to admit. She tried not to think about it but it felt as if she was losing him all over again. Something about that was heartbreaking to her and although she couldn't define what that meant at that exact moment, she knew it was time to put away her feelings and pull out her sword.
Ally slammed her fist into a HYDRA agent's gut as she listened to Steve say he had finished the second Helicarrier. Hope sparked within her as she swung her leg over another agent and brought him down to the ground.
"Two down, one to go."
"Hey Sam," Ally called out, ducking down and dodging a bullet. "I need a lift to the last one?"
"Care to pick me up on the way?" Steve questioned through the transition device.
From the corner of her eye, Ally saw Sam swoop down and make a turn for her. She started running fast, sticking her hand out so he could grab it. Within seconds, she was running on air and found herself soaring across the sky. "Roger. Let me know when you're ready."
"I just did."
"There!" Ally suddenly screamed at Steve jumping off the Helicarrier. "Catch him!"
Sam took a sharp dip, catching Steve with his other hand. "Oh my god," he grunted, using everything in his body to hold onto the two. "This might end badly."
The three made it to the final Helicarrier, Ally hugging Steve quickly before anything terrible could happen. "Thanks poultry."
"I swear," Sam warned. "You know, you're a lot heavier than you look."
"I had a big breakfast."
Suddenly, in a blink of an eye, Bucky appeared before them. With a strong jolt, Steve was pushed off of the Helicarrier. Ally spun around and knocked Bucky back, but it wasn't enough. Sam went to fly off and help Steve but Bucky had grabbed one of his wings and thrown him. Sam started shooting at Bucky but as he went to fly off, Bucky used his weapon to rip off one of Sam's wings and kicked him off the Helicarrier.
"Sam!" Ally screamed. "Are you there? Repeat, are you there?"
"I'm here. Cap? Cap, come in. Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm here, I'm still on the Helicarrier," Steve responded. "Where are you?"
"I'm grounded, the suits down."
"Don't worry, I got it."
As Steve finished his promising last words, Ally staggered backwards as Bucky's metal arm came barreling towards her.
"Bucky!" she cried out. "Stop!"
What else could she say? It seemed as if that was the only thing she could say to him. She didn't know what to say to the icy blue eyes, blinded with violence and torture. She watched his reaction stay the same, he didn't know her. She didn't know him. He was gone, but was he? Ally was so unsure but she could only believe in him so much that she had to try.
"Buck," she whispered lowly, buying Steve more time. His fist came towards her, sending her flying against the ground. "Bucky," she repeated, wiping the blood dripping from her nose. "It's me, it's Ally."
"I don't know who that is."
His voice sounded so weak, so toyed with. It was a miracle she was so calm. "It's me, it's Ally, it's your doll, it's your fiancé."
"I don't know you!" he shouted, stories and memories filling his eyes. "Stop calling me Bucky!" Everything in his voice was broken, like nothing was left, not even his favorite color.
"It's me," she gagged out as he wrapped his hand around her throat. "It's Ally, it's your doll, it's your love." Something flashed on his face, something between remembrance and uncertainty. She couldn't help but feel another surge of hope. As he lifted her off the ground, ready to slam her against the metal floor, her gasping and hopeful final sentence erupted from her heart. "It's your Alchemist."
