Dear Diary,
I must've fallen asleep on the plane because the next thing I knew something jolted my seat, snapping my head back against the cushioned head-rest.
Letting out a yelp of surprise, I straightened up, swivelling my eyes to the window on my left. Suddenly, I froze.
The island of Hawaii was in full view as the plane circled in for a landing. As my breath hitched in my throat, I pressed a few fingers against the pane, my mind hungrily sucking up everything that I saw.
The beaches. They were so pure, so white, so beautiful. The bush. It was so green, so fresh, so spongy. The water. It was so huge, so blue, so breath-taking.
A smile twerked my lips as I sat back against my seat.
Maybe coming here hadn't been such a bad idea after all.
As I ungracefully trundled out of the airport with all my baggage, I was greeted by a slick-haired, starched-suited man who ushered me into a limousine that was so fine I didn't move for fear of breaking or tearing something.
The drive to my father's house was brief but gorgeous. The scenery took my breath away. Everything was so picturesque. The familiar crash of the waves upon the beach played with my heart strings and called for my sea legs. The occasional haw-haw of seagulls floated across the wings of the wind and the salty breeze flowed in through the car's half-open window, playing with my hair and fanning against my flushed cheeks.
As the limousine pulled up before a set of huge, ivory gates, I literally threw myself out of the window, I was gaping so hard.
The house. Oh my god. The house! It was spectacular! There was a huge, glass-framed balcony that ran the entire length of the upper level and floor-length windows lined the walls, opening up to a refreshing, oceanic view. Palm trees lined the white-gravelled drive that circled around a display of water fountains and lily pads. Fairy lights decorated the underside of the house roof and I could see a silver disco ball sparkling from its precarious place over the white-carpeted lounge inside.
Swallowing hard, I slowly stepped out of the vehicle, tugging my bags after me. Wow. Just wow. I felt so small compared to this glamorous estate. What was I going to do? How was I supposed to act?
"Here, let me take those," the driver offered as he reached out for my luggage.
Wordlessly, I handed them to him, watching, in awe, as he carted them away.
"This is so first class," I breathed as I slowly made my way up the array of steps leading towards the double set of front doors, graced with a display of colourful stained glass.
Smoothing down my hair and drawing a nervous breath, I leaned over and pressed the door-bell.
