13 - A Field Trip? Now?

No one's POV

We see Ozpin with Glynda and Ironwood in his office, with Ironwood not being to happy with what he learned last night.

Ironwood: They were here... *raising tone*  Ozpin, they were HERE!

Glynda: We're very much aware of that! Thank you, James.

Ironwood: Fantastic! You're aware! Now are we going to do something about it or should we just stay the course and continue to ignore what's right in front of us?!

As Ironwood finishes his sentence, an alert sound is heard from the elevator.

Ozpin: Come in.

The doors then open to show both Y/n and Ruby.

Y/n: Sorry that it took so long to get here. *glances at Ruby* Someone "accidentally" hit all the buttons on the elevator on the way up!

Ruby: Hey, I told you that it wasn't me!

Ozpin: Thank you both for coming. How are you two feeling?

Y/n: Fine. Could be better.

Ruby: Okay, I guess. I'd feel better if my bad-guy-catching record wasn't O-for-three.

As Ruby says this, Y/n slaps her in the back off the head.

Ruby: Hey!

Ironwood: Ruby, Mythra, I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you two did last night is exactly what being a Huntress is all about.

Y/n: So Ozpin didn't tell this guy. Good to know.

Ironwood: You both recognized a threat, you took action, and you did the very best you could.

Ruby and Y/n: Thank you, sir.

Ozpin: Now, the general here has already informed us of the events that... transpired last night, but now that you've rested, we were wondering if you two had anything to add.

Glynda: Was anyone else with her? Did she look familiar to you at all?

Y/n: No else was with her. She was alone.

Ruby: As for someone we knew we... we don't really know. She was wearing a mask, and she never said anything to us. But I know she fought with glass. I don't think that was her Semblance, though. Her clothing lit up whenever she attacked.

Glynda: Save for the glass, that sounds like the woman I fought the night we met Ruby and Mythra.

Ironwood: Embedding Dust into clothing is an age-old technique. It could have been anyone.

Ruby: Wait. You think this girl is connected to Torchwick and the White Fang?

Ozpin: It's possible. But we still lack the required evidence to link the two together.

Y/n: Well, I did see something on a note before she vanished. I would show you, but she burned it right as the general here arrived.

Ironwood: What did it say? The note you saw?

Y/n: I can't say it's 100% true, but it said something about a hideout, in the southeast. Just outside the Kingdom.

Ozpin: Interesting... Thank you both for your cooperation. Why don't you go and spend some time with your teams? You have a big day ahead of you.

Y/n: Of course.

Ruby: Any time.

Ozpin: And one more thing. Please try and be... discreet about this matter.

Ruby: Yes sir.

Y/n: Sure.

Y/n: I know I'm lying, but I have to.

As Y/n and Ruby leave, and the elevator doors close, Ironwood speaks up.

Ironwood: Well there we have it. We send as many troops as we can to the southeast, find out exactly what's going on, and eradicate any forces that stand in our way.

Glynda: *growls in anger* Why must your answer to everything involve a triumphant display of military bravado!? You treat every situation like it's a contest of measuring di—!

Ozpin: Glynda!

Glynda: Well, he does.

Ozpin: She's right. As much as I too would love to end this situation once and for all, we must remember that this may go beyond Vale. Beyond Beacon. And if this truly is part of some master plan for which we know not the final move, we mustn't be so bold. Nor can we risk the spread of panic. Remember, Mythra said she wasn't 100% sure that was true.

Ironwood: I have served you faithfully for years... but if you mean to tell me that your plan is to really hold the defenses, and wait—!

Ozpin: It is not! You're a general, James. So tell me, when you prepare to go to war, which do you send in first? The flag bearers, or the scouts?

*Time-skip*

We see Y/n and his team in their room, with Y/n telling them what happened.

Rex: You really didn't tell him the truth?

Y/n: Well, why would I?

Lora: I see. If he knew, we'd all be in trouble.

Y/n: True. Hey before have to do that whole field trip thing, could we try something out first?

Nia: What you wanting to try?

Y/n: Oh just a little something I'm thinking of. Rex, you'll be the one assisting me for it.

Rex: Um, okay...?

Y/n and his team then head down to the courtyard, and Y/n brings out his sword.

Y/n: Okay, if this does work correctly, this'll be a great trump card.

Y/n: Rex. I want you to hold my blade.

Rex: What? You sure about that...?

Y/n: Trust me.

Y/n then tosses his blade to Rex, which he catches with relative ease.

Y/n: Alright. Now let's see if it works...

Y/n then closes his eyes and starts channeling his power into his crystal, and a golden link seen only between Rex and Y/n, but what everyone sees is the glowing yellow aura surrounding Rex.

Lora: Woah...

Nia: The bloody hell is this...?!

Y/n opens his eyes and notices what's going on.

Y/n: *smirks* Looks like it worked! Nia, try attacking Rex!

Nia: You sure about that?

Y/n: Trust me!

Nia: Okay... *draws her weapons* If you think it's alright.

Nia then goes in for an attack, and Y/n creates a shield right around Rex, shocking the team.

Lora: Y/n, how are you doing that?!

Y/n: I think it might have something to do with my Semblance.

Y/n: Either that, or the Core Crystal is my Semblance, and it's coming in clutch!

As Y/n ponders about the types of hidden aces he and Rex could do, Gylnda's voice is heard over the intercoms.

Glynda: Would all first-year students please report to the amphitheater?

Y/n: Man, what is this for?

Rex: Have you not been paying attention?

Y/n: No, I've been kinda busy thinking about shit.

Y/n: *turns his head around* I can't tell them I've been thinking about the possibility of there being a Malos in this world, much less other characters from the Xenoblade Chronicles Series! I mean, they did add some characters from the first game and Xenoblade X into 2, so it wouldn't be that surprising!

Y/n: Anyways, let's go before things get out of hand!

The four then head back to their room, grab their stuff, and make it to the amphitheater, with many of the students talking with each other.

Glynda: Quiet! Quiet please. Professor Ozpin would like to share a few words before we begin.

Ozpin then walks up to the microphone and begins his speech

Ozpin: Today we stand together, united. Mistral. Atlas. Vacuo. Vale. The four Kingdoms of Remnant. On this day, nearly eighty years ago, the largest war in recorded history came to an end. It was a war of ignorance, of greed, and of oppression. A war that was about much more than where borders fell or who traded with whom, but about the very idea of individualism itself. We fought for countless reasons, one of which being the destruction of all forms of art and self-expression. And as you are well aware, that was something many could not stand for. As a result, those who opposed this tyranny began naming their children after one of the core aspects of art itself; color.

Y/n: That's... an odd thing to do for naming... Why would people do that, it's stupid!

Ozpin: It was their way to demonstrate that not only would they refuse to tolerate this oppression, but neither were the generations to come. And it was a trend that is held to this very day. We encourage individuality, expressionism, and unity through diversity. As I have said, today we stand together, united. But this bond cannot exist without effort. Which is why today, while the rest of the world celebrates peace, Huntsmen and Huntresses will work to uphold it. As first year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsman or Huntress on a mission. Some of you may be taken out of the Kingdom for several days. Others may work within the walls for the rest of the week. But no matter which path you choose, remember to be safe, remember your training, and remember to do your very best.

Ozpin then steps away from the mic, and all the students begin looking for their jobs.

Y/n: So you guys have any ideas on what you'd want?

Rex: Not really.

Nia: Nope.

Lora: I'll be fine as long as it's not Escort missions.

Nia: Really? You're not a fan of them?

Lora: I've tried once before with a friend... it did not end well...

Y/n: Well, you're not alone there! Games back in my world gave me some PSTD on escorts. Those types of missions are the WORST!

Lora: Right!

As the others look around the area, they see one that catches their eye.

Y/n: Search and Destroy? I'm down for that!

Lora: It's not escorting! And the huntress does seem like she's willing to shadow!

Rex: Wait that name... Nia, do you think it's really her?

Nia: *shrugs shoulders*

Y/n: You know her?

Rex: If it's who we think it is, then yes.

Y/n: Then I think we found our mission!

Y/n then selects it and types in their team name, registering them for the mission. Once it's done, Y/n's scroll contains the details necessary for their mission.

Y/n: Man, looks like we're leaving today!

The four then take their leave, and Rex and Nia notice who it is.

Nia: No bloody way this is real!

Rex: I can't believe it!

Y/n, who looks expecting it to be another Xenoblade character, is shocked to see a young woman standing in front of them.

???: Rex and Nia. Haven't seen you two since you both graduated.

Y/n: Rex, Nia. You know her?

Rex: She was, uh... sort of my caretaker growing up.

Nia: I knew because of me meeting Rex.

Y/n: Well, this is an interesting development. So, what's your name?

Bei: Name's Bei. And our mission is very important, and kinda needs to be done at night, so I recommend we start leavign now.

Lora: Well, let's get moving then!

Y/n: *nods head*

The four then hop onto the airship alongside Bei, not knowing that they're going to get into what Y/n would soon find out to be a similar plot line to the second Xenoblade game.
