Story 5

A compact, fit girl clad in tight black denim, knee-high leather boots, a faded beanie and a classic red flannel made her way up the slope towards the solemn group standing atop the hill. The group stood motionless and silent, showing no sign of noticing the girl who fought the buffeting wind as she climbed higher and higher. Finally, she came to a stop in front of a woman who stood slightly apart from the group, only far away enough to signify her rank as leader. The two faced each other, one bleak face the mirror of the other with strands of their hair blowing across their faces and flying into the grey sky like banners.

"What news?" the lady asked, speaking with quiet authority.

The girl adjusted her beanie and thought for a moment.

"They are growing stronger. They are loyal to one another, and to me. They will never know what I have planned, not till the end."

The lady looked off into the distance, deep in thought, her dark eyes reflecting the stormy sky.

"Good," she replied at last.

"M'lady," a small thin man broke off from the group to step up next to the woman. He whispered something into the lady's ear, and the words were snatched away with the wind.

The woman turned back to the girl and smiled.

"We must leave now, regrettably," she bowed slightly. The girl returned the polite gesture and nodded to the thin man.

"We're on a very tight schedule, we hope you understand," the man spoke in his strange accent, clipping his words in his strange way.

The girl smiled thinly, "Of course, if you have business elsewhere, you have business elsewhere. I'm not going to stop you. After all, I have said what needs to be said, so you may go now."

The woman and the thin man walked back over to the group.

"Oh and one more thing," the woman said, turning back to the girl. "I want them brought to me, trained and loyal. I don't care how long it takes, I just want the world to be in...harmony, for use of a better word." A cold smile crept up onto the woman's face. "And do take care of yourself. Vampires in their true form cannot distinguish friend from foe."

The girl nodded once more, and both groups vanished into the cold morning.
