Chapter 5-Blindsight

Greatwatcher nudged her sister as a dragon of an undistinguished tribe made his way cautiously towards the checkout table.

That's Blindsight, you nitwit. Moonreader thought, thumping Greatwatcher with her tail. Greatwatcher elbowed her sister in the ribs.

I know, I wasn't born yesterday.

"Um, hello? Is anyone there?" Blindsight said, waving his talons in the air. Greatwatcher cocked her head-then saw his blank expression and gray eyes.

Greatwatcher approached the desk and took his talons in hers kindly.

"Yes, how may I help you?" She said gently.

The sapphire-colored dragon froze, then let the tension out of his wings slowly. His frosty eyes were staring in Greatwatcher's general direction, but slightly upwards.

I wonder why he's in the library, I mean, he can't even read!

Shut up! Greatwatcher said, thumping her sister with her wing.

Well, he is blind.

Greatwatcher rolled her eyes.

"Um-where is the scavengers united meet-up? I was invited and told this was the library but..." Blindsight said softly. Greatwatcher opened her mouth, but then closed it in shock as the indigo dragon rumpled to the ground.

Blindsight pressed his talons over his head. His eyes snapped closed, and his wings folded over, white on blue.

Greatwatcher dipped her talons in the rushing flow of Blindsight's brain. However, the current overtook her and she was deeply submerged in it.

Flowing lava, burning everything in it's tracks.

A tribe of unfamiliar dragons warring against another tribe.

Two dragons, one black and one dark gray, consulting each other.

A group of multicolored dragons, several of which Greatwatcher recognized.

A familiar SandWing, being shielded by a ruby-red dragon as a different sand-colored dragon yelled.

A spear going through the ruby dragon's heart.

A SeaWing and a MudWing, fleeing underwater.

An IceWing's throat being ripped out by a RainWing without their spikes.

A winglet flying over the ocean.

And finally, the same SandWing and SkyWing, with three little dragonets scampering around.

The quivering blue dragon let out a keen whine as Greatwatcher pulled her mind out of his.

Every dragon in the library turned to look at the NightWing twins. Greatwatcher heard mental and verbal whispers...

"Weird NightWings..."

"....Blindsight, he's a hybrid..."

"...I know, right? They're such a cute couple..."

That last one came from Starmind and Sahara in the back, sitting with Seafoam.

Greatwatcher lightly pulled on Blindsight's claws. The blue hybrid looked up with fear.

"It's okay," Greatwatcher said, "The vision's over."

Blindsight trembled, his gray eyes blank but expressive.

"I can see all the futures. All of them, every single one. I wish I didn't-I wish I didn't have the power-can you take it away?" Blindsight babbled, "Can you take it away? Please, take it away, there's someone here who can, I know it-" He spun around to the general direction of where Sahara, Seafoam and Starmind were sitting.

STARMIND

The small dragonet looked up, startled.

Starmind, what do you know about Clearsight?

Clearsight the NightWing? Who lived millenniums ago?

That one.

Well, I know that she was a seer...and she could see every future.

What happened to her?

No one knows.

Greatwatcher shook her head. The dragons in the library had resumed their business.

Blindsight suddenly flapped his white wings. Greatwatcher glimpsed the normal NightWing star scales under his wings, but some were pale blue along with silver. A strange pale blue pattern lined the edge of his wings.

"Blindsight." Greatwatcher whispered softly.

The blue dragon spun around. Gently, Greatwatcher pulled him up and lead him to the desk. Blindsight cautiously followed, tail lashing for balance. However, he didn't seem to have a problem with tripping or anything. It was like he could see where everything was. Well, he could in his mind, Greatwatcher realized. He could see every future.

Once his claws were on the desk, he spoke quietly.

"M-May I feel your face? It helps me identify...."

Greatwatcher brushed his talons over her face. The smallest smile lifted the corners of his mouth.

"What's your name?" Blindsight asked.

"Greatwatcher."

Blindsight suddenly inhaled.

"You're here." He said, "I've been waiting for you. I've been searching for you, through all the timelines."

Greatwatcher tilted her head. Suddenly, a vision filled her brain.

An azure dragon with white wings and legs sat next to a black-and-purple NightWing with silver scales by her eyes. Around them, five dragonets frolicked.

One was mostly white, accented by dark blue claws and scales on the underside of his wings. Three more looked like normal NightWings, black accented with blue and purple. The last quivered by her mother's talons, a scroll by her talons. Her white, gleaming claws were stained black.

The vision lasted briefly, but the several NightWings in the library knew that this was the probable and immediate future. There was no way it could change.

Blindsight bowed, sweeping his wings outward. This quirky dragon, however blind or strange he might be, was the total true love for Greatwatcher.

Quietly, Blindsight twined his tail with Greatwatcher's and led her away.

"So... I don't know how to ask this, but-"

Blindsight stopped.

"You want to know what kind of hybrid I am? I predicted you'd ask. It's better to tell you now, I can see that. I'm a NightWing, mostly, but have descendants of IceWing and SeaWing kind. It's several generations past, but the genes pop out every few generations or so. Our dragonets will be mostly normal, though. I mean, other than Nightfall and Moon-blessed."

Greatwatcher hadn't realized how much Blindsight had studied the timelines. She realized that she would have dragonets with someone at Jade Academy, but she hadn't realized how soon the fate would be sealed.

But honestly....

Even the newest future-teller could see this was the best choice. She could change the future in the next day, but why would she?

Greatwatcher settled into a corner, softly talking with her new love.

Have fun..

Greatwatcher started. She turned and looked across the library to see Moonreader narrow her eyes and turn away.

Oh silly, I'm not gonna forget you.

Tell that to the futures. Moonreader said bitterly.

Oh Moon...

Greatwatcher tapped lightly on Blindsight's shoulder.

"Is there a future where I ignore my sister? Or lose her?"

Blindsight nodded slowly.

"There are many fates for everything. But you are nowhere close to tipping the balance."

Suddenly, the gong rang out, signaling the return to the seeping caves. Blindsight slowly stood and walked away. Greatwatcher returned to her sister, and shuffled to where her mother was.

I'm sorry Moonreader.

There's nothing to be sorry for. Moonreader sighed. It was my own fear of ignorance. I've just never seen love that strong. I mean, for six-year-old dragons.

Greatwatcher wrapped her wings around her twin.

I'm sorry I made you feel that way. All is well?

All is well. Moonreader smiled.

[[A/N: Sorry about the cheesiness! I was cooking up a new OC in my head and had to make him shippable with someone :D]]
