Chapter 12 *BackStories*

*TriggerWarnings*

It was 8:00 in the morning, and Isabella had 30 minuets until class started. The curly haired brunette sat on the park bench waiting for her friend to arrive. After 10 more minuets of waiting, a brown haired boy with a black eye walked into view. Bella shot up and ran over to him. "What the hell happened Max!?" She asked as she pulled a bandanna out of her bag. "O-Oh this? I-its nothing. I fell on the way here." Bella gave him a look. "Baloney." She wrapped the bandanna around Max's head so it covered his eye. "We still have 20 minutes until school. I'll fix it better when we get there." Bella stated. Max hugged her. "Thanks." Bella gave a smile. "No problem. But be more careful okay?" She and Max started down the sidewalk. "Ya know, if I didn't know any better, I'd day you come across a group of thugs or something on your way here every morning. Maybe I should just meet you at your house that way I can super-speed you away if you get into trouble." Bella suggested. Max tensed up. "N-No it's fine! You don't have to!" He protested but the girl had made up her mind. "Nope. I'll meet you at your house tomorrow at 8." Max sighed. "Your not going to give up until I say yes?" He asked. "Yep! Now hurry up we gotta fix your eye before class!" Bella said skipping ahead. After a few more minuets the two arrived at Adaranda Middle School. Bella pulled Max aside into one of the bathrooms and promptly addressed his eye. "There! All better! But you might want to see the nurse later if you get the chance." Max and Bella walked down the hallway until they reached their classes. "See you later!" Bella waved bye to Max as he just smiled weakly. "Bye..." Max sighed and headed to his class.

When Bella walked into her class she was met with a few taunts about her 'weak quirk'. Most coming from kids with a weak, but flashy, quirk. Bella was determined to not let the words get to her. "Really? I have a weak quirk?" She crossed her arms. "Say a villain is holding somebody hostage in a building... I'll be the only one fast enough to zoom in and save them! I could save people from a collapsing building, I could chase after and catch villains that are escaping from the other pros!" The short brunette shot them a glare. "I. Do. Not. Have. A. Weak. Quirk." A boy in the back smiled. "Well ya know, she may not have a weak quirk, but what if she ever decided to become of villain with that other kid she's always around?" He faked a look of fear. "His quirk seems villainous! And if you and him teamed up..." The boy left the rest unspoken as the other students became fearful. "You leave Max out of this. We will both become heroes! And if we become villains..." Bella smiled evilly. "We'll take you out first." The kids who were faking they're fear immediately became serious. "You--" The boy was cut off by the bell and the teacher walking in.

Max wasn't very fond of his classes. Everybody was way to loud and extra. The only time they were quiet was when they were gossiping about someone or something. Why couldn't people just be nice? And support each other? Why couldn't they just care? If that was the way the word worked, villains wouldn't even exist. But no. Society is fucked up. Max was pulled out of his thoughts by a few kids snickering and glancing his way. He was done. "Can I help you?" The brunette asked lazily. "What happened to your eye?" One of them asked in mock sympathy. "Did you get a boo-boo?" The group laughed as Max just groaned and put his head on his desk. 'Hope your having a better day then me Bella.' "Max! Pick your head up!" The teacher yelled. "Jeez tone it down your not Present Mic and I can hear you just fine." He replied. The older male had a look of anger cross his face. "And take whatever that is on your eye off. It's not relevant."Max looked at the reached in disgust. "Are you serious? My eye got hurt and its covered for a damn reason. Your gonna have to fight me to get me to take it off." He said as his fuse shortened. "Mr. Max! You can take that attitude out of my classroom and come back when you decide to co-operate!" Max grabbed his bag and stood up. "It doesn't deserve to be 'your' class." Max then walked out of the room and to the cafeteria. 'Might as well take a nap while I wait for Bella.' Max sat at a table in the corner and rest his head on it. Soon falling asleep.

"M- Ma- Max? Max! Wake up." Max was awoken by somebody shaking him and calling his name. He looked up to see Bella standing over him. "When did you get here?" She asked sitting down with a tray of food. "I can ask you the same thing." Max replied sitting up and stealing some of Bella's Ritz. Bella smacked his hand away. "Nu! My Ritz!" She growled jokingly as Max stuck his tongue out at her. "Anyways.... back to my question." Max looked down, the scorch marks on the table immediately becoming more interesting.

"Max...Your acting fishy..." Bella looked at him holding up a piece of her sushi. "So what if I'm acting fishy, so sushi. I mean sue me!!" Max tried to cover up his mistake in words as Bella doubled over in laughter. "Do NOT act like that was a mistake."

She laughed as Max hit his head on the table repeatedly. "Nu stop you gon hurt yo self." The girl said holding Max upright by his shoulders. "And you got to admit... that was funny." Max groaned again. "But seriously... What's wrong? There is NO way you keep tripping, falling or walking into things on the way here." Bella persisted as the boy attempted to change the subject. "Fine!" Bella threw her hands up. "You don't have to tell me." Max sighed in relief. "I'll find out on my own." "W-What!? N-No!" Max followed Bella as she threw out the trash on her lunch tray and went to put it away. "Challenge accepted, Max. To late." When the to got to tray disposal, they are group of obnoxious stuck-ups blocking they way. "Um... Hey, can you move please?" Bella asked. The group snickered as the ignored her. "Excuse me. Can you move?" Sam result. "Oh, my freaking..." Bella groaned. "Bella..." "Can you guys move!?" She yelled. "Holy cow!" One of the taller ones laughed. "What are you and your villain friend gonna do about it chihuahua?" She bent slightly over so she was face to face with the shorter girl. Bella took this to her and advantage and smacked the older girl in the face with the lunch tray. "What the mint chocolate chip did you say about us punk! I'll kick your Rocky road into next week then punch the ever loving strawberry cheesecake out of you!!" Bella growled smacking the kid once more with the lunch tray. Max quickly pulled Bella away as she continued to yell and try to smacking the kid, who now had a bleeding nose.

Finally Bella was pulled out into the empty hallway. "Bella!" "Max." "What were you thinking?" "She called you a villain!!" "You smacked her with a lunch tray and--" Max paused as a looked of confusion crossed his face. "Were you cursing in ice cream flavors?" He asked as he held back a laugh. "No.... okay yes. I'm not allowed to swear. But that will teach them!" Bella stated proudly. "Cmon, lunch is almost over, we could head to class." Max suggested as Bella sighed. "I wanna give them what they deserve." Max shook his head. "You really are a chihuahua." "What did you say!?" Bella glared. "Oh shoot... gotta go fast!" Max bolted down the hallway. "Boi... I have super speed."

Bella chased Max out of the school and around town for a good few hours, before Max got tired and slowed down. "HA GOTCHA!!" Bella yelled jumping onto the boy. "Hey!!! Get off! And you could've gotten me along time ago!!" Max yelled back, flailing his arm in an attempt to get Bella off him. The two stood up and dusted themselves off. "So.... What do you say to becoming villains?" Bella asked as the brunettes started down the street, daylight slowly fading on them. Max looked at her, shock and confused spread across his features. "Wouldn't that be proving all of them right though?" He asked. Bella sighed and nodded. "Never mind your right... it would be a bad idea anyways." "Would it though?" "Yes. Yes it would be." "I don't think so." "So now Mr. Secrets agrees with me." "N-NO! I- I was just—" Bella pumped her fist in the air as the boy got more flustered. "Bella 1! Max 0!" She ran down the street. "Hey! Wait up!" Max soon chased after the girl.

The two stopped at a decent sized house. "Well this is my stop." Max announced turning to his friend. "Really? Wow... I live closer then I thought." Bella replied. "I live in the apartment complex two blocks away." Max smiled a nervous smile. "T-That's great... anyways better get inside." He walked up and opened the door, kicking a few cans and bottles of some sort to the side. "Bye!!" Max waved before shutting the door. Bella waved back and started down the now barely-lit street. Half-way to her apartment, Bella froze. "THE RITZ!!! Ugh!!! I forgot to give Max his Ritz!!" She groaned. Bella fumbled in her bag before pulling out to boxes of Ritz Crackers. The girls then ran back towards Max's house and knocked on the door. A tall man opened the door in response. He was holding a bottle and a cigarette was hanging out of his mouth, it was clear he had more then a few drinks, and Bella could just make out a woman passed out of the couch. It took all Bella had not to gag and the strong smell of smoke and alcohol. "Who are ya?" He asked groggily. "I... I um was here to see Max?" Bella asked trying to not make it obvious that she was attempting to look further into the poorly lit house. "MAX!!!" The man screamed. "GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE!!" This time, Bella flinched at the loud noise. Soon make came down the steps and to the front door, obviously avoiding the man. "Oh. H-Hey B-Bella." Max stuttered. 'Hm... does he have another black eye!?' Bella thought. "I forgot to give you these." Bella said handing him the box. "Um. Thanks Bella. See you tomorrow." And with that the door was slammed in her face by the older male. "Rude..."

The next morning Bella waited for Max outside his house. She waited for about ten minuets before she heard a large crash, and saw Max scrambling out the door. A large gash was in his arm and blood slowly oozed out. "Max what happened!?" Bella asked as the boy grabbed her arm and tugged her away from the house. "Max!! Slow down and tell me what happened!!" Bella protested as she dogged her heals into the ground. Max panted as he let go of Bella's arm. "Sit on that bench over there. We aren't going anywhere until your arm is fixed. And while I do that you're going to tell me what the hell is going on. EVERYTHING." Bella commanded. Max sighed in defeat. "Fine... I'll tell you everything." He sat down and Bella started to dress the large wound. "It started when I got my quirk..." Max proceeded to tell her all that had happened. His parents had turned on him when they found out his quirk, dubbing it evil and villainous. They had abused him for years, and swore that if he ever told a soul, they'd kill him. Bella stood up angrily. She was pissed and was starting to see red. "How could somebody do that to a child!?" She yelled angrily. "It's not the quirk that defines the person, its the person that defines the quirk!!" The brunette grabbed the boy's good arm. "Let's go." Bella said dragging him along. "Where!?" Max asked. "Police station." Bella replied flatly. "What!? N—No... You- They'll— You don't have any proof!" Max stuttered. "The gash on your arm, your bruises. And if the police do a surprise search, then I'm 100% sure they'll have enough proof." Bella continued walking. "What if they see the police and clean up?" Max asked. Bella groaned in response. "It takes FOREVER to clean the smell of beer out of a carpet. They wont have time to clear out the scent." Max sighed. "Fine."

When the two reached the station, they were met with a not-so-friendly secretary, who wouldn't give the two ninth graders the time of day. "Ya know what... wee just gonna see an officer." Bella told the woman before proceeding to an office. "Hey!! Get back here!!" Bella and Max knocked on the office door hoping somebody would answer before the woman got to them. Finally a voice came from inside telling them to come in. The two quickly. Rushed in and shut the door behind them. "Woah... are you two okay? We're you running or something? The officer asked. Bella and Max nodded. "We came here to report physical abuse and quirk discrimination, but the lady at the desk wasn't paying attention." Bella explained. The officer frowned. "Talashii isn't one of the nicest on the force. I'm glad you came right in though. Please sit down and explain." He said setting down the papers. Max and Bella took a seat just as the woman named Talashii burst in. "Sorry Officer Korishon, these two delinquents just rushed in and I—" The officer put his hand up to signal for her to be quiet. "Please leave, Talashii, I'm currently talking to... two, victims of abuse and discrimination?" He looked at the two. Bella shook her head. "Just him, I'm just here to report it because he's being death threatened if he does." The officer looked to Talashii who mumbled something as she left. "So... explain." Officer Korishon turned back to the two. Bella nudged Max, who told him everything. "And thats it... everything thats happened." Officer Korishon finished writing it down. "Now, I hate to bring this up because it's clear you have a solid claim, but protocol is protocol, so... do have evidence?" He asked. "Max's arm and bruises should be proof enough! But if you need more evidence, just go to his house. It reeks of cigarettes and alcohol." Bella replied. The Officer nodded and stood up. "Will do, you two should stay in here. If anybody asks, tell them Officer Korishon told you to stay in here. I should be back in a bit." With that he exited the room yelling something so into a walkie talkie.

Bella sat comforting Max during the time. "Don't worry Max. It's gonna be okay." "But what if they dont—" "Get away?" Bella cut Max's statement off before he could worry himself anymore. "Agreed. And they wont get away." The two sat in silence for a bit longer. After a while a loud series of cusses and slurs rang out around the station. Max shot up and ran towards the door. He opened it and was greater with officers escorting his parents down the halls. Officer Korishon was following them. "Hey kids... hope nobody gave you trouble." He said. "A- Are you arresting them?" Max asked. Korishon nodded. Not only had the neighbors vouched for your story, but we found several illegal drugs in the house. They'll be in Jain for abuse, use of illegal drugs, and discrimination. I hope you can stay with Bella for the time until we sort things out." Officer Korishon explained. "Better go deal with those two now..." He walked off leaving Max and Bella stunned. Max started crying as Bella hugged him. "It's gonna be okay..." Max smiled. "I know."
