In Action

Lance had just arrived in his office. He has to juggle his duties as champion and as the leader of G-men due to which he spends a lot of time out of his cabin. His table looked a complete mess. A small pile of reports was waiting on his desk. He sighed and sat down on his chair as he began to go through them.

Apparently in the past week there have been multiple heists on places such as pokemon centres, breeders, stores in Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos regions. These heists were well planned and executed. The police weren't able to get any clue at all. The men involved would always vanish without a trace after their job is done. Due to which now the case was the responsibility of G-Men. As if we don't have enough to deal with already.

Whoever was responsible, Lance thought, their motive was clear. They were preparing for something. Gathering supplies. But what could it be for?

He picked up one of the reports. A few days ago Professor Sycamore's lab was attacked but this time the perpetrators were actually caught. Their interrogation hadn't revealed anything yet. They were keeping their mouths shut. Attacking a region's Professor's lab was incredibly bold. It proves we are dealing with some real hotshot group of people here.

Lance pushed the reports aside thinking he would go through later. Right now he wasn't in the mood for some mystery. The situation in the Delta wasn't getting any better either. Sending a contingent of G-men ahead hadn't solved anything. It had only made the people opposing them more aggressive. Now there wasn't much choice but to send in more G-men to contain the situation. I hope Ash reports in soon. I don't really want to interrupt his vacation.

And Paul too. It had been a day since Lance had told Paul to take action against Alten technologies. Somehow their goods were making way to Delta region. But Paul hadn't reported since then. Lance thought he would straightaway jump at the opportunity. But he was wrong.

Paul had proved himself to be reliable in numerous missions. Even when the odds were against him. It was his capability to be calculative and plan everything, that made him one of the best agents. Though sometimes his cold approach proved to be a problem.

Ash on the other hand gets the job done. He had the ability to assess the situation perfectly and think on his feet. Which allowed him to execute perfect counter strategies against his enemies. But then again some would call his way of working reckless or even suicidal.

Though both Ash and Paul were different from each other. They were his best agents. Compared to others, they were quite young but in just a few years of working with G-men, they had achieved what many hadn't in their whole career. That's why he needed them together in Delta. If anyone could turn the situation around, it was them.

----

Serena and Ash looked in the direction of the loud sound,  Momentarily forgetting what almost happened right now. The explosion had occurred in a nearby field. They could see a cloud of smoke rising, about half a mile from here. Serena recalled that it was the house of the Pokemon Breeder Charles. She felt Ash's hand grabbing her’s, he had a serious expression.

“Let's go have a look.” Ash said as they started walking in the direction of the explosion. They left the road and walked through the tall grass. “What do you think it is?”

“Maybe a pokemon battle is taking place.” Serena said. “A pokemon breeder lives there. Could be his young pokemon getting into fights with each other.”

“It could be.” Ash said and frowned. “But it sounded pretty nasty.”

As they moved closer to the house they could see a pokemon battle taking place. But there was something wrong with it. Ash could make out a Poliwrath and a Golduck ganging up on a Growlithe. He could even spot a few people nearby but weren't doing anything to stop it. Sensing something was wrong, he started running towards the battle or in this case a beatdown.

Serena was surprised by the abrupt change in pace. She was finding it difficult to keep up with him. So Ash left her hand and ran forward leaving her to catch up. He was close enough to hear what the people were talking about.

“Tell me! Tell me where have you kept all the pokemon.” One of the men said. All were wearing some kind of black suits. “Or it's an ice beam straight intoto the Growlithe’s eyes.”

Ash was alarmed. He saw a Growlithe was lying on the ground drenched and almost fainted. He was shivering while Poliwrath and Golduck were standing over it. The man who they were talking to was on his knees. Looking at his poor Growlithe's state, he was on the verge of tears.

“Why?” He said in a choked voice. “Why do you need those baby pokemon?!”

“That's none of your business.” One of the men said coldly. “Just tell us where you have hid them.”

Who are these people, pokemon hunters? Ash had reached the scene, but due to the tall grass he wasn't noticed yet by anyone. It was clear that these people were here to steal pokemon from the breeder. He wanted to interrupt but all his pokemon were back at Serena's house right now. He needed to call them first.

He dug his hand into his pants pocket to find poke-whistle. He always kept one with him in case of situations like this. One of the things he had learned from his past experiences is to always be prepared. Serena caught up with him and his beside him.

“What are you going to do?” She whispered in concern.

“Don't worry.” Ash said. “Nothing reckless. Just stay hidden okay?”

Serena got worried. “But your pokemon are-”

“They will be coming.” Ash assured her as he showed her his poke-whistle. “I just need to blow this.”

“Come on!!” Ash and Serena turned their attention towards the group. A tall and burly man who Ash assumed was their leader was speaking. “I don't have all day. My boss is waiting. Do you really want your Growlithe to die?”

The old pokemon breeder closed his eyes and started crying. “They are...in the... cellar.”

“Now wasn't it easy. You made it difficult yourself. Let that weakling go.” The burly man said to the Poliwrath and Golduck standing on top of him. Both of them scoffed and walked towards their master. He then turned towards his men. “You four. Round all of them up. We are leaving in ten minutes.”

Ash knew he had to interrupt now. He cannot allow them to get their hands on those young pokemon. He gestured Serena to stay put and went in the direction of the the house to intercept. Raising the poke-whistle to his lips, he blew it thrice in quick succession, to indicate emergency.

“Not so fast.” He was standing in front of the door. “You will have to go through me first.”

There was a moment of silence in the group. They hadn't been expected a challenge coming here. Especially not from a person having no pokeballs attached to his belt. The burly man boomed into laughter.

“And who do we have here. You really think you can take on us?” He laughed again. “Do you want to end up like that Growlithe?”

“I don't plan to.” Ash said with a smirk.

The burly man’s expression quickly turned into a serious one as if he was insulted. “Take care of him.”

The four men in front of him released their pokemon. Three Bellsprout and a Weepinbell appeared in front of him. They appeared quite edgy and wobbly to Ash. As the case is always with these pokemon from the criminal teams, these weren't well trained. They are in most cases stolen pokemon, thus having no bonds with them as trainers. He felt kind of sorry for the poor creatures.

“What are you going to do?” One of them said “Do you have any pokemon at all?”

Ash kept up his smirk but his mind was racing. If he had assumed the distance correctly his pokemon would be arriving at any moment now. Decidueye had the best hearing sense, so he will be able to warn everyone else. But the first one to arrive would be…

The air filled with a buzzing sound. Except Ash’s, everyone's head turned towards the sky in search of the sound. However they could only see a blur as it was flying at an incredibly high speed. The four grass types shuffled around nervously.

In a blink of an eye there was a sweeping force which swept away the Weepinbell and Bellsprouts. They were thrown across the field into the tall grass. There trainer's were left wide eyed. Vikavolt slowed down and steadied overhead Ash.

----

Oh my gosh! He looks so dashing. Serena was watching Ash from her hiding place. His pokemon looked pretty strong too. If only I had a camera, it could have been a cool picture of him.

----

“Get back you useless bunch!” The burly man shouted from behind. “I will deal with him.”

The men did as they were told. They got back and returned their pokemon to make the soon to be battlefield clear. Ash walked forward to stand opposite the burly man. Golduck and Poliwrath were preparing to square off with Vikavolt. Ash had to admit, dealing with these two pokemon with only his Vikavolt could be tricky even if he had the type advantage over the two. Both of them looked well trained to put up a fight.

“Poliwrath, water gun. Don't let it rest at all.” their trainer shouted taking the first move. He knew this young man shouldn't be underestimated. The Poliwrath released concentrated blasts of water jets from his mouth. He kept repeating it in quick succession.

“Dodge.” Ash shouted from below. Vikavolt was able to dodge it without a sweat. But the water gun attacks were coming in one after another making it difficult for him to find a window to attack back.

“Golduck, use psychic to hold him in place.”

Ash knew he was cornered right now. He quickly needed to find a way out of it. “Thunderbolt on Golduck, quick.”

Vikavolt sent a thunderbolt towards the duck pokemon. He howled painfully as the attack made contact. But before Vikavolt could finish him off he was struck by a water gun making him momentarily lose control. Just enough to get hit by another one. Golduck somehow managed to recover and used his psychic attack.

“Got him! Now bring it to Poli.” Burly man said. The Golduck’s eyes glowed as his psychic completely immobilized Vikavolt. He was being brought towards the Poliwrath.

Ash knew Vikavolt could deal with Poliwrath even in close range, so he wasn't really worried about him. But he had to find a way to get Golduck out of the way. As Vikavolt was brought closer, Poliwrath got hold of his jaws.

“Dynamic Punch. Straight to his face.” The man had maniac expression on his face. His strategy had worked perfectly. It didn't matter if he had used two versus one. The fact that he was winning, was what really mattered. Poliwrath took one of his fist back to charge up his dynamic punch.

Golduck was so busy concentrating on keeping Vikavolt immobilized that he didn't notice Golisopod sneaking on him. Golisopod’s claws glowed green and he slashed the first impression across the duck pokemon’s back. Golduck fell on the ground face first. Before he could react in any way possible, Golisopod slammed a sucker punch on him, knocking him out cold.

Vikavolt was freed from the psychic force. However strong Poliwrath was, it wasn't possible for him to hold on to Vikavolt and charge up the dynamic punch at the same time. So he gave the attack up and held onto Vikavolt’s jaws. Which turned out to be a poor decision. Ash was waiting for this moment. “Zap Cannon, Vikavolt.”

Zap Cannon is a highly powerful but inaccurate move. But it wasn't possible to miss from point blank range. Vikavolt rapidly charged up electricity in his jaws. After the attacks capacity reached its peak, he released a huge ball of electricity from the tip of it's jaws that hit Poliwrath square in the chest. He was thrown backwards and collided with his trainer who fell with Poliwrath on top of him, knocked out cold.

“Arrg..” The man moaned. Poliwrath’s weight was too much for him. His men went on to help him.

Ash walked towards the Pokemon Breeder who was on his knees. He was stroking Growlithe's ears. The canine was in a bad condition. His fur was wet and he was shivering uncontrollably. Urgent medical attention was needed for him.

“You take him inside and attend to him.” Ash said. “I will take care of these goons.”

“Thank you.” He whispered. Picking up Growlithe in his arms he walked in the direction of his house.

There was a fluttering sound which signalled the arrival of Decidueye. He dropped a berry into the hands of the breeder and then turned towards Ash. Pikachu and Greninja arrived after him in quick succession. Emboar was taking his time, which was understandable. He wasn't as fast as his other Pokemon. But now that others were here those goons didn't stand much chance against him.

Which they must have realized too. As they were retreating. There leader was back on their feet and was being helped by a two of his men. Nah, I am not gonna let them get away. They need to spend some time in a lock up.

Ash began running towards them to try and apprehend them. Even though he was on a vacation he was still a G-men agent. He had the right to arrest anyone if he has a reasonable cause. His pokemon followed him. He was going to ask Pikachu to shock them from escaping but then stopped. They weren't really trying to get away from him as he was running towards them.

He noticed that there were only eight of them. He had counted ten when he had first arrived at the scene. That means two of them were hiding somewhere. They are trying to lure me into a trap. That's actually pretty clever.

He looked around. There was tall grass in all directions of the house. They could be hiding anywhere. Their pokemon might be ready to pounce on him at any moment. He couldn't just blindly chase after those goons. It was risky. But at the same time they were getting away.

“Vikavolt go around and hit them from behind. Decidueye go straight at them.” Ash said. That would definitely stop them from escaping. His pokemon were enough to take care of them if they didn't have any other pokemon.

“Gren!” Greninja said in alarm.

Ash looked at him. He was pointing towards the place Ash was hiding before. Pikachu ears perked up too. It was coming near. Whatever it was coming to hit him. Then he realized it. Shoot! Serena's still hiding over there!

“Serena!” Ash shouted. He was at least fifty meters away from her hiding position. He started running towards her.

“Ash! What are you…?” Serena stood up from her hiding position in confusion.

“Get away from the grass.” Ash said. Serena didn't know why he was acting panicked all of a sudden even if he had everything under control. She did as he had told her, got away from the tall grass and started walking towards him.

Serena had barely walked a few meters when she heard angry hissing behind her. She turned to look back where the sound was coming from. Her jaw dropped after seeing the cause of it. A Seviper emerged just from the place she was hiding a few moments ago. It hissed and pounced on her with his fangs open dripping with poison.

Before Serena could do anything a water Shuriken zoomed past her and hit the Seviper on its head. After a moment Greninja zoomed past her and slash an Aerial Ace across the body of the Seviper. It fell to the ground and was trying to slither away weakly. But another Aerial Ace knocked him out.

“You okay?” Serena heard Ash's voice from behind her. She turned around and was immediately pulled into a warm embrace. He was holding her tightly against his body. Before she could answer him she saw over his shoulder, two more Sevipers had emerged from the other side.  They were quickly advancing towards them.

“Ash! There are more!” Serena said.

He quickly released her and looked behind him. “Pikachu! Golisopod!”

He didn't need to issue commands. His pokemon were well trained to attack on their own. Pikachu slammed an iron tail one of its head before thunderbolting the life out of it. Golisopod grabbed the Seviper by his mouth with his bare hands and used leech life on it. The poisonous snake withered painfully in his hand until all of its energy was drained from him.

“Greninja, Golisopod! Look for anyone hiding in the grass around.” Ash said as he took Serena's hand. “Pikachu stay close.”

They could see some thunderbolts a distance away in the direction in which other men had gone. Vikavolt might have caught up with them and stopped their escape. That's one less thing to worry about, Ash thought. He didn't know what else was hiding in the grass around him. He just has to keep Serena safe and not let them hurt the Pokemon Breeder and his pokemon.

He decided to wait in the clearing till Greninja and Golisopod were checking the grass for any other threats. There could be anything out there. Moreover he wasn't alone like on his missions, he had people to protect.

Ash felt something beneath his feet. The ground beneath him was shaking slightly and it was increasing by every second. “Pikachu, get ready, it's below us.”

Pikachu readied his iron tail and slammed it on the ground. As a result it created a partial earthquake. The Pokemon below them would have suffered some damage due to it. But the ground didn't stop shaking, instead it started to shake more violently.

The ground below Pikachu burst open and a vicious Arbok came out. Pikachu was thrown off by the super effective attack and landed a distance away in the tall grass. And for the moment Ash was defenseless against the Cobra pokemon. It looked extremely intimidating to him with it's hood towering a few meters above him. It looked menacingly at the pair of humans in front of him.

Just when Arbok was contemplating whom to eat first he was hit by a Water Shuriken straight on his hood and a ghostly spirit shackle arrow on his back. The double attack gave enough time to Pikachu to fry it with a thunderbolt. The Arbok screamed in pain. Pikachu didn't stop till the Cobra was knocked out and fell to the ground with a thud.

There was some scuffling going on in the grass nearby. A moment later Golisopod emerged with two people in his hands, who were responsible for the Pokemon attacking Serena and him. Ash had to control himself from punching them. He thought Serena wouldn't really appreciate his angry side.

“Go ahead, Buddy” Ash said to his Pikachu.

“Pika.” Pikachu obliged with a smirk showing he was going to enjoy it.

Serena was still processing what had happened in the past half an hour. What was supposed to be their confession for love had turned into a battle for protecting the Breeder from some unknown thugs who had tried to kill both of them more than once. If it weren't for Ash and his pokemon they might have even got away with it. But she liked how protective Ash had become when she was in danger. It proved he cared and had genuine feelings for her.

“You there?” Ash was waving his hand in front of her face. She came out of her thoughts flustered. “I asked if you aren't hurt anywhere are you?”

“No. I am fine.” Serena said. She pointed towards the unconscious bodies of the two men whom Pikachu had just finished shocking. “So what are you going to do with them?”

“Police will take care of them.” Ash shrugged.

He started dialing on his Pokenav to inform Officer Jenny.

----

Police had arrived quickly after Ash had informed them of the incident. All the men were arrested and taken in for interrogation. Except the Burly man who was their leader. To Ash’s frustration, he had managed to get away. Officer Jenny had thanked Ash and taken the goons away.

It had become dark outside. Pokemon Breeder Charles invited Ash and Serena inside to have some coffee which they gladly accepted. Since there was no danger now, he had allowed all his baby pokemon outside into the field. Growlithe was sleeping soundly inside. They were all seated at a small wooden table.

“I am extremely grateful to both of you.” Charles said.

“Ah..I...It was nothing.” Ash said. He didn't like being thanked for something like this. It was his job to stop people like these.

“Still, if you wouldn't have arrived on time, I was done for.” Charles said.

Serena noticed Ash was finding it difficult to say anything in reply. She thought she should pitch in, “Ash always helps others. It's his nature.”

“Ash?” Charles said in surprise. “Do you mean Ash Ketchum?”

Serena nodded. She could see where this was going.

“Oh my goodness. How fortunate I am to get to meet you in person.” Charles bowed in respect. Ash was getting more uncomfortable by the second.

“Please that's not necessary.” Ash stood up from his chair.

“Forgive me. I couldn't stop myself.” Charles said as he got back into his seat. He then exclaimed suddenly “Oh this is perfect. I will be back in a second.”

Saying that he hurried inside into a room. Ash and Serena gave each other confused expression having no idea what he was up to. After a minute or two he returned with a portable incubator having an egg inside. It was pale yellow in colour and had green patches on it. He placed it on the table carefully.

“A friend from Unova sent me this egg. It's of an extremely rare pokemon.” Charles said. He pushed the incubator towards Ash. “I would like you to have it. As a token of thanks from me and Growlithe.”

“An egg!” Ash said. “Whose is it?”

“You will find out soon enough. It’s quite close to hatching.” Charles said grinning. “So does that mean you choose to accept it?”

“I can't say no to a new Pokemon.” Ash smiled. “Thanks a lot.”

“No. Thank-you, young man. I couldn't have found a better candidate to handover this egg too.” Charles said.

“Oh Really! Now I am really curious to know whose egg it is.” Serena said.

“Me too.” Ash said.

“And..you won't have to wait long for it.” Charles said.

The group continued talking for a some more time. Ash and Serena decided to leave before it was time for dinner. So they bid him bye and walked out of the house. Pikachu who was playing with the Pokemon outside, joined them hopping onto Ash’s shoulder.

“Goodbye.” Charles waved from the door. “I wish you all the best for your future together.”

After saying it he closed the door, leaving both Ash and Serena in an awkward situation. Both of them remained silent. They had yet to confess to each other. And someone else wishing their future together was unexpected and made both of them uncomfortable.

“Let's get back home.” Serena decided to speak up.

“Yeah.” Ash agreed and both began walking in the direction of home.

Both were walking in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

Serena was a little annoyed. Not because their date hadn't gone as planned. But because her confession had remained incomplete yet again. She had poured out her heart to him. They were going to kiss when those stupid goons had decided to strike. Yet she was a little glad, Ash had unknowingly confessed. I can live with that.

Ash meanwhile was making mental notes on what he should have done on today's date. To not make such a blunder on his next one. He felt he was lucky to have someone as understanding as Serena. If it was someone else she would have left by now.

Someone else?

That itself sounds weird. I can't see anyone except Serena beside me. It's her I want to spend rest of my life with.

Pikachu meanwhile thought. Ah, these guys are so boring...

AN: Confession incomplete yet again! What's going to happen next?

Stay tuned for more.
